Hi all,

Just after some feedback from those who made the move, and how long did the port process take?

Cheers

  • Are you changing only the internet or internet and phone?

Aussie BB black Friday deals 27th November.

  • Depends on your connection type. Typically FTTP, FTTC is almost instant.
FTTN & HFC is often a little longer, still within the same day though

  • FTTN ported Telstra to ABB (no phone) and the process took a few mere hours, from my online application to completion and being online it was a very quick transition.

  • Thanks guys,

I'm changing internet and phone over, just didn't want to be without internet too long. It's fttn. Abb chat said a week to 6weeks. Sounded a bit over the top. Maybe they say that for worst case scenario.

    • That timeframe sounds like they think you don’t already have nbn.

      • Nah worst case a phone port can take weeks.

  • Thanks guys,

My issue at the moment is my billing date with internode is around the 23rd of Nov and on that date theyll bill me $65 for the next month.

And on black friday ABB will probably have carrots hanging in front of me. Can anyone think of a way i can switch without having internet downtime (family would kill me) or a full month of internode bill that i'll only use a week of? (Not sure if theyd pro rata me if i asked)

  • There is no downtime, one connection will take over from the other one, your internode connection will not drop-out until ABB takes over.
Do you need to keep your phone number?

    • Yeah mate, need to keep the number.

      • Okay, you need to make it very clear. Do the porting over the phone and let the existing provider know also. Often the NBN connection gets activated immediately and the loosing carrier receives a cancellation request before the number is ported.

        • Ok thanks.

So you think if I arrange the port on Monday I might be able to get the NBN going with ABB the same day?

I don't really care if the phone takes a few days, just hoping to beat the next months charges from internode which gets debited on Tuesday

          • @Shane34: They always say up to 5 days for connection. Generally speaking it's done on the same day. Sometimes NBN rejects the order. If it's not active on the same day, then give them a call the following morning and they can push it through.

But make sure you place this order over the phone. I have seen many times with the automated system, the loosing carrier cancels everything even though a number porting had been requested.

ABB will tell you "Do not cancel your number with your other provider", but the system does it automatically on your carrier's side.
