Many Chinese language textbooks are intended mainly for people who study Chinese in formal classes and are based on assumptions that are appropriate primarily for such learners.

The words and phrases such textbooks introduce in early lessons are often those that help students function in a classroom setting. Such textbooks also assume that the learners’ need to learn to read and write Chinese is as pressing as their need to speak it, so they introduce oral and written skills at the same rate.

whoever says this non-sense should learn bone script language because that's the real ancient Chinese characters :)
All languages are evolving and people are just trying to look smart when they say "oh I think the traditional way is much better blablabla" while typing modern English

    • +1

Here is an radical idea: you can learn both

    • Could have been a lot, lot worse, had the government followed through with their plans to romanize the characters.

    • There is your traditional Chinese supremacy. Just learn to respect each other.

Let’s all learn to say ‘we will export somewhere else’

    • I don't export anything, sounds good to me. Do whatever I don't care.

In 2030 or no later than 2035, China will be the most powerful country in terms of GDP. So learning some Chinese is helpful for our career in the future.

    • It's already the biggest trade partner, many businessmen and real estate agents are learning Mandarin. Even the Apple store assistants in the City know basic Mandarin and Cantonese.

yeah, Chinese policy is ((profanity)) imo, what they are essentially saying its we can hit you however we like but if you hit us once we will nuke your entire country.

How on earth could you interpret it that way? It's a clear message for other countries to stop interfering with China's own business.

China is hardly socialist. It’s a mixed market economy now.

        • +6

Its really not. They are super aggressive we need to cut ties with them. Our trade with them is at its lowest point because of our Western differences. They put tariffs on some of our goods because we wanted to investigate the origins of covid in Wuhan. They are not a mixed economy they are a global bully

          • +3

@RetroMetro: You really are deluded are you? Too much western media or sky news bias perhaps?

China is indeed run by an authoritarian government which regulates its mixed market economy.

            • +2

@Griffindinho: Sky News haha I don't watch that. You are the deluded one my friend. Authoritarian government is not the right word more like a dictator government. If you read up on the stuff China does like organ transplants, concentration camps and suppression of free speech than you are the deluded one in thinking they are just some mixed economy. Let me guess you are pro CCP thats why you are commenting this?

You don't have to be right wing to figure out how bad the CCP is. All you need is a brain XD. Left wing, right wing or whatever wing will know, if they have a brain its not just people who watch sky news lol

              • @RetroMetro: Nope not pro CCP, just people who spout misinformation is what I dislike. Before trying to fix others, maybe try and fix our backyard first, hey?

                • @Griffindinho: Well there was no misinformation i was spreading. You are starting to sound like twitter with their censoring of "misleading" information

Same as pronouncing "Australia is a pet dog of US" in English

Why, thanks mate. I'm told another pronunciation for that is "Gee, I wonder what are you doing in this pet dog of a nation?! I hear the land of weenie the poo is far superior".

        • +2

Because the land here is much cheaper and I feel super-rich here. To be honest it's too much pressure back in China now. All my friends are making millions of dollars in China, I am just trying to stay away from peer pressure. That's why I came to Australia. Life is SO MUCH EASIER here.

          • @AkiraSaito:

Life is SO MUCH EASIER here

When you don't get kidnapped by the government and murdered for your organs, gee, that's gotta be so much easier indeed. Enjoy your stay, mate. And I appreciate you not eating our dogs while being down here.

            • +1

@CocaKoala: Can't really argue with a Trumper supporter because they always come back with fake news. You really need to update your knowledge base, if you have any.

              • @AkiraSaito:

Can't really argue with a Trumper supporter

Yeah, right. Everyone who disagrees with the atrocities of China ought to be a "Trumper supporter". What a bright assumption to make.

I've been quite vocal against Trump if anything. Here's a post even from today: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9656327/redir

they always come back with fake news

You really need to update your knowledge base

What arrant nonsense. People eat dogs in China, and that's not fake news. This has been public knowledge for decades. They celebrate a festival of torturing and eating dogs FFS, so take your fake news retort elsewhere. It looks like you're the one without a "knowledge-base".

                • +1

@CocaKoala: Your claim that "people eat dogs in China" is a rather broad stroke and has a sinister undertone. It suggests that all Chinese people eat dogs when in actual fact only a small percentage do.

                  • -1

                    @Munki:

Your claim that "people eat dogs in China" is a rather broad stroke and has a sinister undertone. It suggests that all Chinese people eat dogs when in actual fact only a small percentage do.

It wasn't what I was insinuating at all, but I appreciate the fact that it some might interpret it that way.

                    • @CocaKoala: what you said is true, but you can also say humans eat dogs, also true. So literally you are a dog eater because you are a human.

You need to update your knowledge base indeed. Dogs are common food for Chinese Korean in north east of China which is 0.14% of Chinese population.

      • +1

Thanks again mate, I'm told it could also be pronounced as "Stop killing the prisoners that you detained illegally to harvest their organs, stop exporting viruses (both physical and digital), stop enslaving people into forced labour, stop putting people in concentration camps, stop the state-sanctioned and shameless intellectual property theft, stop illegally creeping into neighbouring lands, stop running those absolutely disgusting and dangerous wet markets, stop slaying the Uyghurs and other minority groups, stop pushing your garbage propaganda as educational material, and so on"

Gee, that's it's a complex language indeed mate.

        • America and Australia aren’t that clean either.

        • Clearly, Santa Claus is real for you.
So are the street posters from those Falun Gong practitioners. Do you know that they also claim that the world was created from a spinning wheel made by their religious God?

          • @AkiraSaito:

Clearly, Santa Claus is real for you.

So many whackjob assumptions. I have no religion (OK, I did mark "Jedi" as my official religion).

Do you know that they also claim that the world was created from a spinning wheel made by their religious God?

No, I don't, but I also don't give two hoots about any religious groups, or any groups as long as they don't go around enslaving or killing people.

At least I got my source of information from certified newsgroups, and they come with evidence and I am up-to-date

Ah, yeah. The newsgroups "certified" by those lying grubs that's the CCP and their stooges.

            • +1

@CocaKoala: It's CCP who spread the fake news of the killing in Afghanistan! They must have done it!
Damn it! I knew it! (profanity) evil CCP!

              • @AkiraSaito: You reckon CCP spreads fake news? Thanks for letting me know buddy.

                • @CocaKoala: Yes. I believe Australia has done no war crime, ever!
The killing in Afghanistan was actually done by CCP and they control all the news media to blame it on Australia!

                  • +1

@AkiraSaito: You want to know the difference between us?

I'd like murders investigated and reforms appropriated on the perpetrators, no matter who has committed it (including the alleged war crimes committed by Australian solders in Afghanistan). The key here is "no matter who committed it".

But people like you like to defend the CCP, and immediately either shriek "fake newz" or "trump supporter" (this one is incredibly daft), or talk about something else entirely different (like Australia's war crimes) straight away, without addressing the issues being laid out in front of you.

So, yeah, I would like any war crimes to stop, if the allegations are true, and would admit there's enough smoke for our government to investigate the underlying issue. What would you like done about all those atrocities I've pointed out in numerous messages across this thread?

And FFS don't call me a Trump supporter, because it would actually upset the actual Trump supporters. One need not be a Trump supporter to point out that murdering people in order to profiteer from their organs is immoral.

                    • @CocaKoala: Man, what are you talking about?
I believe Australia has done no war crime it's all fake news by CPP, just like you believe CCP murdering people in order to profiteer from their organs.
We all have our own beliefs.
And we all believe that CCP is so evil
OMG I have leaked some many top secrets to you tonight. I must log off now otherwise CCP will send their assassins to kill me.

                    • -2

@CocaKoala: You sound like a trump supporter, you talk like a trump supporter, you are a trump supporter to me! Don't worry mate, it's not a bad things. You have 74 million brothers and sisters.

                      • @AkiraSaito:

You sound like a trump supporter, you talk like a trump supporter, you are a trump supporter to me!

That's your answer to what I asked you?! Gee, way to dodge a question.

I have linked you to threads where I'm talking against Trump and arguing with Trump supporters, and you have somehow deducted that I am a Trump supporter. Your belief is just your personal illusion at this stage, and I could not help you with disillusioning you (I've evidently tried).

Even if I were a Trump supporter, which I am not, it does not right all the wrongs being committed by the CCP.

                    • @CocaKoala:

or talk about something else entirely different (like Australia's war crimes) straight away

Ok, comment don't eat dogs under the book bargain.

                      • @Jalk44:

Ok, comment don't eat dogs under the book bargain.

Right, it's not as if I've actively dodged around other other concerns brought forward, so that's not going to cut it.

                        • @CocaKoala: Anyway, I agree with some of your views man. CCP did a lot of bad things, some things are not true, some things everybody can't deny.

                    • +1

@CocaKoala: Fuccckkk the CCP arse lickers, don't waste your time. All they do is trash talk and speak nonsense cause they have zero comeback. What a bunch of (profanity) imo.

Probably sitting in China, hired by the CCP, sipping their microwaved bat soup supporting CCP, just cause they can't face the fact that they are turds who can't accept who they are.

Besides they are uneducated peasants who can barely speak English properly.

                      • +1

@[Deactivated]: Yeah mate, this appears to be a lost cause. There's a bloke down below who also seems to think that I'm a racist. I give up.

                      • +1

@[Deactivated]: You sound like (profanity) CCP and the (profanity) dictator Xi Jinping. Anyone who disagrees should be muted. They must be uneducated. At least they can speak and write English as a second language. Can you speak and write a second language as they do? Now look who is uneducated.

      • I found it's very strange that you compared human beings to dogs..

        • I found it's very strange that you compared human beings to dogs..

          Yeah, right.

I've repeatedly talked about several atrocities committed to human beings in China, but you come and respond to the one message where I say that they torture, kill, and eat dogs and are actually claiming that I've "compared human beings to dogs"?!

If I were to give you the benefit of doubt, I'd say that you didn't understand what I was saying, but feel free to elaborate.

          • @CocaKoala: I replied to AkiraSaito person above…

            • @Scythic:

I replied to AkiraSaito person above…

Ah, sorry about that then mate.

        • +1

yes very strange. dog's lives in China are far more important to those Afghanistan civilians.

          • @AkiraSaito: I guess that also means you're supporting human organ harvesting in China. Good to know

            • @Scythic: You know in China, they harvest human organs and rank them by their quality. A brain like yours will be labelled as "malfunctioned" or "faulty"

    • Comments in this thread proves racist is very real in australia !

I'm sorry you feel that way, and if any of my comments contributed to that. However, I must point out that I'm only against the atrocities committed by the CCP, and have nothing but respect for the Chinese people as such.

You do have to note that we Aussies do not appease to political correctness like a lot of other western nations, and freely speak our mind. For example, if I believe that eating a dog is savagery, you'll hear me say it because it (profanity) is.

      • +6
