  • solid deal, thanks

I just bought KEF LS50W yesterday from Amazon so no amp needed….

  • +1

I was looking to get the Topping L30+E30 Stack, if i get the SMSL SP200 what's a good DAC combo with the SMSL?

    • +1

I have read online L30+E30 is very capable, and most likely the best value available right now.
Also read that the L30 Linear Amp is basically a single-ended-only A90 (which is Topping’s version of the SMSL SP200).

SP200 is for those with super expensive and hard-to-drive headphones (like Audeze LCD series etc).

      • I got the this stack too and it’s been great. I really love it and fits the small desk space I have at home. The audio performance is also very good coming from my old iFi setup. You’re right it has the same architecture trickled down from the more expensive A90 (referring to the L30). One thing to note though is heat. The L30 does get warm (not burning hot) because they had to match the size of the E30. The E30 is very resolving and it’s basically like any good DAC.

      • Thanks for that info, i won't need the SP200 then. I am just using X2HR so the topping stack will be more than enough for now.

      • Spare a thought for the Khadas Tone Board and the Schiit Magni 3+, probably comes in slightly under those two via import.

        • Yes the more custom method would probably be that way.

I guess buying the L30+E30 stack locally can also be of benefit if anything goes wrong (you can just return everything shipping paid by Amazon).

Also for anyone wondering the word ‘Linear’ in the L30 Amp title refers to the Linear power-supply if that matters to you (yes it is a wall-wart but it has a linear PS inside).

          • @thebadmachine: Technically you can get the Magni locally for a little more than the L30, but Khadas isn't local, you're right. It's also barebones, so you'll want to find a case for it.

Magni 3+ is a huge technical achievement for a budget discrete amp.

@jasswolf: Thanks for sharing. I admit I have little knowledge about Schiit Products.

That would be the SMSL M200. Same matching slanted design. It uses AKM 4497EQ. Going for $428 on Amazon now.

      SMSL M200 Balanced DAC AK4497EQ LDAC Bluetooth 5.0 32Bit/768KHz DSD512 USB/Opt/Coax HiFi Decoder with Remote Control https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B087V1RMKG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f…

      • oh wow, that's over my budget. But thanks for that suggestion.

I will just go with L30+E30 instead.

  • Tempting… Since WFH, I've been using my Fiio E18 portable DAC/amp. It's driving my 600ohm Beyerdynamic DT990's which is a bit of stretch for it at higher volumes but seems fine at moderate volume. Just trying to convince myself to upgrade to a desktop amp.

    • +1

      Topping L30 should be enough.
      But do your own research.

      From reddit:
Does anyone know if a topping l30 is good enough to run beyerdynamic dt880 600 ohm.
The L30 will easily be enough to power them, but they won't sound as good as if you were to run them off an amp that has a higher output impedance.

      • Ta. Yeah they work great on the headphone output on my Cambridge Audio SR20 receiver, but that's not located where my desk is.
        Will chew it over.

        • If it works great enough for you from a stereo receiver’s headphone output. The L30 will definitely have a more powerful output than that.

But then maybe you just move the receiver to your desk and problem solved. Only spend on something new if you have to.

          • @thebadmachine: Totally agree with making use of what you have rather than buying for the sake of buying. But it's a full blown receiver hooked up to my lounge room hifi :)

            • @bassiveguitar: You can put your monitor on top of the amp on your desk. I have seen it done this way.

Can anyone recommend a headphone DAC + Amp in one?

      • Cool thanks!

        • I have also seen the SMSL AD18 $187 Delivered recommended a few times on ozbargain.
It is also a DAC+ headphone amp + speaker amp.

          From Audiosciencereview:
While the headphone amplifier was a highlight of the Topping MX3, it is not so at all with SMSL AD18. As such, I don't recommend getting the AD18 for its combination of DAC and headphone amplifier.

Where the AD18 pulls ahead is in power delivery for speakers. I expect its real life performance to be good bit better than Topping MX3 due to its heftier power supply. I think both use the same 24 volt input so I might test the MX3 with the AD18 power supply to see if I can get more juice out of it.

TLDR: MX3 has better headphone amp, SMSL AD18 has better speaker output.
