Samsung Q800TAWXXY Versus Q95TAWXXY if Price Were Similar?

Hi all,
hoping for some advice please.
Looking for a new 65" TV and have been looking at all posts.
Notice with Black Friday sales that the Q800TAWXXY price is being reduced by a lot in some places.

I had my head initially set around either a:
Samsung - QA65Q95TAWXXY
Sony - X9500 (much cheaper than the samsung) or
LG CX OLED
But sticking with Samsung.

However with a massive price reduction the Q800TAWXXY has now entered the picture but i dont know which is the best way to go. Any thoughts?
Use the tv mainly for TV viewing (including free-to air), and Netflix etc
For our main TV room area.

I know that the main difference is 4k vs 8k
I think they are both QLED's? (which is fine for me as there is sometimes light/glare in the room where the tv will be based.

Appreciate your information please.

  • Compared here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-q800t-vs-sam…

The difference between the 90T and the 95T is the one connect box. I have a 95T and think it's great.

  • Q95T all the way - I think the Q800 might be a lower spec TV and you’re just paying for the 8K resolution you’ll start using in 5 years! This is just a guess though - check out rtings and other review sites for a more thorough comparison. At that pricing most people just go OLED.

  • thankyou :-) however when i look at reviews, they are both the same, except for the difference between 8k processor and 4k processor. The only other main difference is that the Q800 doesn't have chromecast (which my husband uses to access Kayo). Am i missing something else important?

  • From Rtings: "The Samsung Q90T QLED is better than the Samsung Q800T QLED. The Q90T is a 4k TV that has a better contrast ratio, slightly better uniformity, much better reflection handling, better out-of-the-box color accuracy, and a quicker response time. Both TVs have one HDMI 2.1 input, so they're both future-proof, but the Q800T is able to display 8k content."

Both of these tv's have the kayo app available natively on tizen so you'll easily be able to access it.

Couple of things I would consider. The q800 is an 8k tv so it has to upscale 4k content and quoting the rtings review "Similar to the Samsung Q900/Q900R 8k QLED, the Samsung Q800T has some minor upscaling artifacts in 4k content, but it’s not spotted easily. There’s also some dithering in shadows."

There is not much 8k content available and probably won't be for a long while, so the appeal of 8k doesn't really make sense to me. 4k content is readily available.

According to the spec sheet, the q800 does not support 4k @ 120Hz (the q90T does) so if you're thinking of getting a next generation console (playstation 5 etc.) the q800 is not a good choice.

  • Thanks SO MUCH Swidildoo…you've put exactly what I needed to know in the laymans terms I require - very much appreciated. Now need to find the best deal on the 65" Q95. If anyone sees any new Black Friday deals pop up, please let me know.

    • What price have you seen as.a guide to look out for

  • I saw $3,046 delivered from Appliances Online - but that price has now been lifted to $3,367
    Appliances Central have for $3,380
Someone else saw JB HiFI (using 15% off with gift cards) $2,795 - although their price has magically also lifted over the last day to $3,995

The QA65Q800TAWXXY just today (and yesterday which is why i was asking initially) was for sale at betta.com.au for $3,295 PLUS included a $1,000 gift card. This is what i really should have gone with. Now it is the same price, but they have removed the $1,000 gift card.

running out of options to check - and all the stores seem to be lifting prices again (this afternoon) rather than reducing them.

  • Qt95 is $3021 on Samsung EPP so of you know someone you could potentially do it that way.
    Q800 is $4259 as well

The $1000 off you saw ended on Monday, so I assume what they have done now is just reduce the price by $1000 making is $3295 and no vocuher.

  • that's strange, it was definitely on the website today and yesterday. when i added the item to my cart, it came with the $1000 voucher at $3,295.
oh well, maybe it was a mistake on their online end.

    thanks heaps for your help.
will just keep my eyes open.
it may be that the Sony QX9500 shows a special price tomorrow. Prefer Samsung but see how it goes. Cheers.
