    Think it's just 3100.. Not 3100x

    • +1

Yes, you are correct there is no such thing called 3100x I think.

  • should i get this or wait for a deal on the i3-10100F?

If your motherboard is an intel one then 10100f might be slightly better it seems.

      • haven't got my mobo yet :/

Can userbench be banned from here? Dont use it

I'm waiting for the exact same thing! 10100F seems so new and rare that I doubt we'll much movement on it though.

      • fair point. its also already cheaper than the ryzen by miles without discount, so idk if retailers will want to cut it anymore

10100F with 3200 + ram will slightly outperform a 3100 with 3200+ ram. However with ryzen you can run 3200 or higher ram on any cheap motherboard, but with the intel 10100 you can only do this with a Z490 motherboard, which really isnt worth paying the premium for if only using a low end locked processor.

The 10100F with the lower end motherboards will have ram speed limited to 2933 or 2666 depending on which exact chipset model motherboard you use and in this case will get slightly outperformed by the Ryzen 3100.

Realistically in most cases your probably best going with the 3100 and pairing it with a cheap A520 or B550 motherboard and running it with a set of 3600mhz ram which has been coming up cheap pretty regularly recently.

      • Very helpful post, thanks!!

Do you know the reason why the cheaper LGA1200 are limited to 2666/2933 compared to similarly priced AM4 ones? Is it just because they're newer?

It's just because Intel likes to restrict all overclocking functionality to their high end Z series chipset boards and running higher speed ram is technically an overclock so it gets restricted.

          • @bodgie87: Thanks for the advice. I went and bought the 3100 from Amazon with the 12% cashback - hopefully bringing it down to $140.

            • @JoelT: Another thing worth mentioning is those 3100's are very good overclockers if you feel like it. With the stock cooler it's probably not worth the effort however it will handle a minor overclock, but if you decide down the line you can add a $30 cpu cooler and should be able to get it to 4.3 - 4.5 ghz for a decent bump in performance.

Intel considers running xmp memory profiles "overclocking so they block it on non Z motherboards.

          TLDR: Intel sucks

    • will you have a discrete GPU? if not, the 3100 can have up to 3x more fps than the 11010100101

    • 10100f will be faster i believe with the 3100 it's split in to 2 CCX meaning extra latency and so slower than the 3300, they're both 4c/8t

  • Picked up a used power supply and Mobo for $50 2 weeks ago and had been meaning to buy this cpu when the price was right. Thanks!

  • Okay 30 minutes in and its out of stock lol
