They been dying since the 90's, the only reason Intel are still around is x86 application compatibility, the whole WinTel thing.
I think Sandy Bridge was the point when Intel just all together stopped trying.
Intel has been worse value for a few years and now they've lost the performance crown (but aren't toooo bad on value during sales like this).
But this is nothing - From 2011 until 2017 AMD had nothing worth recommending in most price category. AMD will be on top for a while, but things always change.
you better hope intel does not die or leave the desktop market.
