Spider ID needed. What is it?

Anyone able to ID this spider for me? Seemed to appear (and others) after a pest spray was done.

  • Looks like a funnel web.

    • That looks different. My one doesn't have hairy legs

Must be a 'Veet' spider then?

It's a female funnel web. The shave their legs.

  • black house spider?

    • I think you might be right. Painful bite and venomous so not keen on them.

  • Trap door or funnel web? Although it’s uncommon for these to climb.

We used to get a fair few funnel web looking spiders and the vast majority turned out to be trap doors when we took them to the reptile park to donate.

    • Definitely not a funnel web spider body shape and size is all wrong. Funnel web spiders are typically unmarked and have like very glossy black parts.

Definitely not a trap door spider, for much the same reason. Body thorax shape is all wrong, palps are wrong, abdomen is wrong, but much closer in colouring.

Least you know the pest control worked!

Perth here so no funnel webs, but after I spray the house heaps of these big boys drop out around the place. Looks to be just a black house spider, and tend to hang around outside mostly.

  • I'm not good at identifying spiders unless they are dry and crispy shells. Can you please help me out by killing it with fire first?

    It's a whi……….nope. no idea. ;)

“ThAt’Z a wHiTe tAiL!” Or in this case. “FuNNeL wEb!” (please don't be mad at me, Choc :P)

It’s a female black house spider. I have one as a pet. Her name is Ebony. She eats lots of flies, but she is a messy eater.

They make really annoying webs what have a funnel/cone type shape and usually in corners of rooms or mostly in the corners of window sills. If nothing else, they are very efficient at catching other insects, more so than any other spider I have here. Roger, my pet huntsman, doesn't catch as much as Ebony does and he would be twice her size, but huntsmen don't typically make webs like this.

PS: Don't "kill it" if you can help it. These are a "good" spider to have around. They actively hunt and kill other pest insects, so your best bet is to catch it and let it go outside waaaay down in the garden or a quiet corner spot and let them do what they do best.
