Where to Find Cheap Pink Slip around Postcode 2150

Hi Folks,

Just looking for experience who know/knew where to buy a cheap pink slip service around NSW 2150 area (Parramatta & surrounding).

I used to know a mechanic charged for cheaper cost of pink slip, but they no longer do it.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks

Pink slip cost is set by RMS or whatever they're called now so everyone should be the same $41

    • I've seen a few still charging at $25, it just not around my area.

That would mean they're losing money as they still need to pay the RMS their cut. My guess is if anyone is doing that, they're using it as a honeypot to get people in the door and they'll "find" issues that need to be fixed and that's where they'll make their money.

        • well… you might be right…

but i never had issue when i went to the previous mechanic…

interested to know as well what their findings and can sweet talking me into getting it replaces even though not true…

having said that, usually i would do quick check to all the car indicators and lights… i mean i know my car well enough

          • @thomalfa:

Did you ask your previous mechanic if they can recommend anyone?

            • @pjetson: well, they still do pink slip… only not at half price anymore…

I would hope they don't do it at all any more…. instead set the price to standard.

otherwise, it would be awkward to ask

    • charge is not "set" by the RMS, it is an 'RRP cap' that no-one can charge more than. If the mechanic wants to give them away for free that is up to them (k-mart T&A, Midas come to mind).

They are hoping to find, or 'find', issues with the car though.

Per above, my understanding is there is a set price for pink slips.

There might be come looking to win a bit of business, but take the $41 at your local and move on. Be aware of the age old scam marketing technique to get people in the door with a cheap pink slip and then whack them with a massive list of problems … "yay, I've saved 16 bucks" quickly becomes "what do you mean I need 1,500 bucks worth of repairs?"

Use a local service based on reputation and referrals, not a penny wise pound foolish approach.

    • this maybe can happen to the owner who doesnt know his/her car well… and who doesnt have a car basic knowledge…

but for a person with car knowledge is really hard to get scam… unless the car itself does has an issue…

i mean if you have been driving long enough you will feel different if the car condition is healthy or not

      • As with just about everything car related … YMMV.

I used to know a mechanic charged for cheaper cost of pink slip, but they no longer do it.

They no longer charge cheaper, no longer do pink slips, or are no longer a mechanic?

    • not at half the price of a standard pink slip

  • Cheaper the pink slip the longer the list of defects..

Express lube does "free" pink slips

There's one on woodville rd that could probably issue one without seeing the car.. will pm if I can remember the address
