Ute and Bus Drivers Are The Worst

Interested in hearing everyone's views.

have noticed ute and bus drivers are some of the worst and irresponsible. They drive rash and try to squeeze even into the smallest of space. But when it comes to themselves, they do not give space to anyone to join the road. I think one of the reason for rash driving is that they know their vehicle is big and would not sustain much damage whatever happens.

What do everyone think?

How often do people give 1inch of space to a bus?? they have no choice. Same as trucks.

    • +1

the good thing is the bus driver will always (as long as they can see you) give way to you. They don't want to be involved in an incident as far as they can help it. ie; drug testing, paperwork, back to the depot etc etc

      • Not in Perth, they just come on out most of the time. Must give way to them anyway so the driver is rarely in the wrong over here.

      • Not on the Gold Coast, busses just pull out and cut you off whenever they like because they have the right of way. I have seen them cause numerous multi vehicle accidents. I stay as far away from them as I can

How much space does a bus need to squeeze into the smallest of space?

    • I'd say as much space as the size of a bus.

Buses are okay since they do carry a lot more people, but not a big fan of large utes or SUVs that force themselves in without much warning and you need to decelerate to leave enough space as they are so big and bulky that you can't see past them.

but not a big fan of large utes or SUVs that force themselves in without much warning

Again as soon as someone sees a blinker come on, they floor it and block any space.instead of backing off and allowing everyone to just blend in.
We have some of the most shit drivers in the world in AU now.

      • Not when they blink once and then slip right in and you're forced to tap the brakes to create enough space in front of you so you're not tailgating. There are all types of drivers but I am not one that accelerates just because someone is trying to merge.

      • they floor it and block any space

Which in turn creates the 'two blink' or even the 'no blink' lane change. So idiots begetting more idiots.

  • True OP .

Uber drivers and taxi drivers ?

      Deliveroo idiots

    • This 100%!
Even with their map telling them where to go, they still have no idea

I think often people don't know how to drive around buses, rather than bus drivers not knowing how to drive. Simple rules like not knowing to give way to buses when they are indicating are things many drivers don't know.

    • +4

In NSW, there are big signs slapped on the back of buses telling drivers to "give way when indicating". Most people are quite good at following this as well as for trucks.

However, I've never seen anyone follow the "40 when lights flash" rule on the back of buses.

      • +1

I always get a middle finger salute if I slow or stop to allow a bus to pull out (I'm looking at you feckwit in the BMW M6/X6M on allambie road).

  • +11

You have to give way to buses by law.
    Ute drivers…they are indeed pricks.

  • +6

It's usually some tradie with some "blokes advice" sticker on the back and a P plate.

  • +4

    It’s called confirmation bias.

  • +9

Some of the most impatient, dangerous, selfish drivers I've come across drive utes. Some of the most patient, safe, selfless drivers I've come across drive utes…

It's dangerous to paint everyone with the same sh*tstained brush.

  • -3

Any sort of large vehicle does this

    SUVs, utes, trucks, vans

Normally a sign that they have too much money

  • +5

Let’s just remember that a bus is often carrying 5-55 people and your car would likely be carrying 1-5 at any given time.

In terms of efficiency of number of people moved based on the space it takes up, the bus deserves to merge in front.

Also- giving way to merging buses is the law.

I think it’s like this… If you encounter one arsehole driver a day, it’s just one arsehole… if every driver you come across is an arsehole driver… maybe your the arsehole.

  • Had a lowered blacked out ute turn right across my path as I was passing him (oncoming) and no indication. There was no one behind me or him either, so no pressure to make the turn. That was the incident that made me seriously consider a dash cam. I would add Mercedes drivers + Golfs to the "list". Hardly any Beamers were I am… plus they seem well behaved for some reason.

    • But a dash cam cannot stop that yet…Just takes recording as a silent witness!

      • Eventually, someone will misjudge and I think there will be contact. Dash Cam is for insurance.

Certain genders and nationalities are better drivers than others.

    • Please explain.

It's the age old debate of nature vs nurture which dates back to Plato vs Socrates

        • +1

Socrates was a much better driver than Plato, it’s quite well documented.

          • +1

@jjjaar: Socrates was a drunk and a hoon!

            • @Satyrical: Ya but could drive better drunk than sober sooo

              • @jjjaar: The Americans call it "peak buzz" where you're most in the zone for pool or darts. I say everyone should be encouraged to travel at the alcohol limit just like at the speed limit

  • +3

Ute drivers are indeed assholes at a disproportionate rate, but I would say they are fairly competent to give them credit. I've seen them pull off some truly impressive manoeuvres and it seems they don't collide any more often than other cars.

I never fear much around utes for this reason. It's the Corolla's and German cars you need to beware of. Too many casual drivers or soccer mums who have no clue what they're doing.

  • +1

That ute driver from kraneworx was the worst !!

  • -1

My issue is with all the people who drive in the right hand lane, driving the speed limit and not a km over it, refusing to keep left and let traffic past.
Then they get on the ozbargain forums condemning anyone who gets a driving infringement.
These law abiding citizens really know how to collectively sling their right wing, conformist delusions around and ruin a perfectly good day.

    • Yeap your on the money .

    • Anything under 80 km/h is fair game.

    • Right wing conformist? Wtf lol. Right wing has traditionally been anti-government, anti-laws, and anti-lockdowns.

  • -1

Its the P players that are the worst… no, it’s the BMW/Audi drivers that don’t use indicators… no, wait… it’s the old folks that drive to slow and try to park in cafes all the time.. no, its the motorbike riders that lane split… no, it’s the cyclists wth a death wish that run red lights … hang on, it’s lifted 4wd owners that belch black smoke for days every time they take off … Nah, it’s truck drivers … hatchback drivers, sports car drivers, Volvo drivers, hat wearing drivers, drivers with the fish sticker on the back…….

    Need I go on?

  • -1

Bus drivers are literally the worst. None of them give a sh!t and basically take the attitude of (1) my bus is bigger than your car, (2) I'm not financially responsible anyway, (3) I'll hide behind government employee privacy BS, (4) there will be no inconvenience or penalty to me in any way shape or form.

I'll also give a shout out to Golf drivers … do you have to be a cvnt to buy one, or does it just help you fit in with the other Golf drivers?

Bus driving has been reported as one of the most stressful jobs around. They have to put up with difficult passengers and drop kick drivers that ‘MuST gEt In FrOnT oF SloW BuS’ all day. They had to change the law to allow buses to rejoin traffic flow. Of course they are going to use their size to advantage.

      • -1

Bus driving has been reported as one of the most stressful jobs around.

        Don't like it? Get a different job. I don't give a monkey's … you've never met a true d!ckhead until you've met a bus driver.

        • Buses have right of way by law.

          • @Dr Prepper: Only in very specific circumstances. This (profanity) drive like they own the road and every vehicle on it.

            • @Seraphin7: 77 Giving way to buses
              (1) A driver driving on a length of road in a built-up area, in the left lane or left line of traffic, or in a bicycle lane on the far left side of the road, must give way to a bus in front of the driver if—
              (a) the bus has stopped, or is moving slowly, at the far left side of the road, on a shoulder of the road, or in a bus-stop bay, and
              (b) the bus displays a give way to buses sign and the right direction indicator lights of the bus are operating, and
              (c) the bus is about to enter or proceed in the lane or line of traffic in which the driver is driving.
              Maximum penalty—20 penalty units.
              Note 1—
Built-up area, bus and length of road are defined in the Dictionary, left lane and left line of traffic are defined in subrule (2), and shoulder is defined in rule 12.
              Note 2—
For this rule, give way means the driver must slow down and, if necessary, stop to avoid a collision—see the definition in the Dictionary.
              Note 3—
The driver of the bus must give the change of direction signal for long enough to give sufficient warning to other drivers and pedestrians—see rule 48(2) and (3).
              Note 4—
Under rule 87(1), a driver entering a marked lane, or a line of traffic, from the side of the road must give way to any vehicle travelling in the lane or line of traffic. However, the driver of a public bus does not have to give way to a vehicle if the vehicle is required to give way to the bus under this rule and it is safe for the bus to enter the lane, or line of traffic, in which the other vehicle is travelling—see rule 87(2).
              (2) In this rule—
left lane, of a road, means—
              (a) the marked lane nearest to the far left side of the road (the first lane) or, if the first lane is a bicycle lane, the marked lane next to the first lane, or
              (b) if there is an obstruction in the first lane (for example, a parked car or roadworks) and the first lane is not a bicycle lane—the marked lane next to the first lane.
left line of traffic, for a road, means the line of traffic nearest to the far left side of the road.
              Note—
Marked lane and obstruction are defined in the Dictionary, and bicycle lane is defined in rule 153.
              Give way to buses sign
              Note 1 for diagram—
This sign is displayed on buses.
              Note 2 for diagram—
This sign must comply with the size requirements set out in rule 316–1.

              • @Dr Prepper: Precisely and in particular the bus must comply with ALL of the requirements in section (1) for this rule to apply. It does not mean that buses have a general right of way … despite that they drive as if they do.

  • I thought Holden cars drivers are the worst 😛

  • +2

3/4 of all drivers are rubbish drivers regardless of their vehicle. As said above- confirmation bias

  • +1

Part of the blame is with whoever designs bus routes that require a right turn from 3 lanes over just after a bus stop on the left. Sometimes the drivers have to be pretty aggressive just to get around. I'm happy to let them through.

  • DC and DX drivers

  • It was bad enough when they drove Commodore and Falcon utes, now they are in big 4x4 utes they are even more retarded and aggressive.
Anyway, the more damage they do to my car, the more they've got to pay.

    Utes with lift kits

edit: double lol points for utes with lift kits riding on giant chrome wheels….like what does this vehicle achieve…

  • I can't believe the hate bus drivers cop.

This is the dumbest form of road rage we see.

There is a massive the sign on the back.

Drivers are actually legally obligated to give way to buses and can get fined $349 and lose 3 demerit points.

    http://www5.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s77…)%20and%20(3).

  • Ute and old suvs drivers are the worst imo.
