My black Friday order on Target through Catch was cancelled because it's "short picked"

I ordered the Legend of Zelda breath of the wild game from Target through Catch last weekend as one of the black Friday deals. I got the game for 49 AUD with the original price listed at 69 AUD and a discount from the Latitude Pay $20 discount deal. I was excited about the game and cannot wait to play it. Until I got contacted by Target on this Friday (yesterday) afternoon informing that my order was cancelled as it is "short picked"

Hi There,

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with us. We are disappointed to see that your order has been short picked. We are making some changes with our Online Store and your order has been affected so we do apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.

If you wanted to try and place the order again you are welcome to and we can refund your delivery fee. Please just advise your new order number and we will refund the delivery fee.

The funds should hit your account within 5-7 business days, depending on your financial institution. You can reach out to Catch for more information if you don't receive the refund.

Do you have any more comments or questions for us? We’re here to help!
Kind regards,**** @ Target

After explaining how I chose and committed to this deal over the Amazon deal and why it wouldn't make sense for me to buy the game with $30 more and asking about whether the order can be placed from their end, I got the following reply:

Hi,

We aren't able to put through the order again due to privacy reasons.

The price fluctuations are the nature of retail, we may have a price drop again on Boxing Day.

If you have any other questions just reply here.

Kind Regards,
**** @ Target

At this point, it seems appalling to me that they give such little care to the customer experience. If I am to buy the game now, it will be 79 AUD instead of the 49 AUD deal I got. It just does not make sense for me to pay $30 more for this game or wait until "Boxing Day" as I got that good deal and I was never the party at fault. Not only was my order cancelled without my knowledge, but they also went as far as being condescending to lecture me on how retail works, rubbing salt on the wound. I am quite upset and deeply disappointed to have to deal with this type of behaviour as it's been quite a while since I was faced with one. To me, the least they can do it to keep my order until stock arrives. It just seems like a scam when you promise to sell something at a lower price only to break the deal and raise the price after the customer paid their opportunity cost.

This is my first ever post as I really need a place to vent. Thanks for listening to my case. Any thoughts on my experience with Target? Please let me know in the thread.

Sad that they don't give you anything even though you bothered to go through the conditions of the black friday deal.

  • If you have Latitude, do you have price protection activated? If you do, then it doesn't really matter , in fact I usually buy from higher priced stores that gives me Rewards points and then claim it 1 or 2 years later :)

But in regards to your case, bit odd that they didn't refund you right off the bat. Normally, I get a Paypal notification that I got refunded and thats how I find out my order got cancelled. Maybe make a public comment about it on one of their Facebook posts, that normally seems to get a 'response'

    • Thanks, MeesusEff, I used LatitudePay, and I don't see anything about price protection on that page (it's essentially like AfterPay). Now that I checked it, they might have cancelled my order earlier than I expected, as I did get an email from LatitudePay regarding the refund. The point is that I was given false hope, they were trying to punish me for their negligence in stock management, it is the experience that sucks.

      • oh woops, missed the LatitudePay thing. What card do you have, 28Deg? If you've had it for a few years, you might have activated price protection. Log into the portal and click the Insurance tab, hopefully you do.

But yeah that does suck, best outcome is a full refund but I would send through a complaint about the language in the email. I had a sh*tty experience with Target where I bought foam mats for my bubs play area, and after I brought it home (was a click collect), I was cleaning them and realised 1 pack was used and so dirty with footprints and hair all over it. Took about 1 week each time for a rep to email me a response, so 3 weeks to get a refund on a $9 item… couldn't bring it back to the store as Covid just happened. Never shopped at Target since then.

  • Looks to be more the fault of Catch reselling Target items not in stock.
I have bought a few things from Target.
Tried talking to customer service once via chat after I placed an order and got nowhere before the item shipped. So had to return one item and it was easier just to walk into the store for a refund.
Happy with all other purchases. Prefer them over Kmart.

  • Maybe it's a sign to get outside and enjoy non lockdown!

    • How do you know op is Victorian.

      • This…. :P

        • Damn how long did that take you to find?

          • @brendanm: About 3 minutes.. haha. OP only has 20 comments! Any more than that, I would've just clicked the 'x' button and shut it down! lol
