Buffalo 2TB External Hard Drive 7200RPM $109 Free Shipping

211

Seems like a good deal from the same ebay seller I bought from previously.

The HDD has USB 2.0, Firewire and eSATA interface and is 7200rpm. Don't know the HDD maker though.

Sorry guys, price went up by $10 again.
I guess that's why we have to visit ozbargain every 10 minutes..

Mod: Changed price in title

1Tb model for $59 here

From listing & brochure, no cables seem to be included, but it seems to be a good price.

Dunno how well I like the idea of a hard drive being couriered / shipped across the country… lots of "bump-risk" if not packed well.

But, if I lived near a walk-in shop with a price like this, on such a product… I'd snap it up.

    So, it gets my +

PS With an eSATA interface, these would go well
with those cute little HP MicroServers,
that we all went "ape" over, across in 2011… ;-)

BTW, eSATA seems - from this product's brochure - to be one FAST interface!!!

Its FireWire 800 (for iMac compatibility) runs a -distant- second, in speed!

    • where do u think your local shop gets their hard drives from? surely they dont make it in their back yard … they were shipped from somewhere to … its common sense for sellers to package and cushion up the HD when shipping, i understand your weary but your logic is flawed

    • I think "bump-risk" is negligible as modern hard drives all park the head when the drive isn't powered. So there shouldn't be any reason I can think of to be so excessively cautious.

Accidentally voted this comment +ve. I actually didn't mean to vote either way and can't remove it.

  • What brand hard drive does this use?

  • just bought two, thanks for this! firewire FTW :D

  • Its now up in price to 109.

  • I was about to buy it then price jumped up. Lucky I saw it. Now it decision time, is it worth the extra $10? Geuss it would be for most but I dont like having hardrives thrown around in transit so ill skip this one.

Looks like something shifty is happening here. The OP posted a deal here yesterday from the same person & the same thing happened. The item jumped in price by $10.

      .

      • Not a rep, I bought the bluray at $59 on Sun.
Just wanted to share a deal.
I think this seller sells a fixed quantity at lower prices?

This isn't some random seller. It's a large company, Gadgetcity/BatteryShack who posts on OzBargain so they are well aware of incoming sales. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/gadgetcity.com.au

Mods can accuse members without evidence? How can I become a Mod? :D

        • Hmmm, dunno about becoming a mod… but maybe there's something else coming your way instead.

          gimmie a B…. gimmie an A… gimmie an N….. what's that spell :) ?

  • Purchased the 1TB unit (ebay item #190608408008) for $59 and will put in my own HDD

    • Thanks, I'll put that in the description in case someone's interested in a 1Tb.

I usually use a number of positive votes (pluses) as an indicator if the deal is good.
This tactic can fake me. They start with the low price, they get positive votes. Then they increase the price. Profit! :)
Probably ozbargain should reset votes counter every time the price is increased. :)

That's extremely bad business practice. It's not the OP's fault and still possibly a good bargain, but definitely a neg from me.

    10% rise in 30mins

    • thats what i call adjusting to demand … and being greedy at it …

  • Great deal be even better at 89 but when your the only only show in town..This would be a great addition to my wasabi360 would hold around 250 Xbox 360 games.

  • 1TB is great value at $59!

  • Is it out of stock for this item?

The one I can see is http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BUFFALO-DRIVESTATION-DUO-2TB-HARD…

  • 2TB all sold out. Item listing ended. 1TB still available.

whats wierd about this deal is that no body seems to really care who is making the drive and everyone's looking at the price and its inlfation within 30 minutes … Buffalo do not manufacture Hard disks, so the $10 question is, what make and model is the HD thats inside this over glorified company name "buffalo"

    • desperate time call for desperate measures :)

    • exactly right. i'd rather spend the same amount of money buying a seagate 2TB desktop drive. at least that way its not 'buffalo'!

  • All sold out now. Note that warranty was only 1 year - most of the other brands have 3 year warranty & I think warranty is quite important for hard drives.

  • I don't like the price rise but even at $109 to get eSata and FW in decent looking case I think it's a bargain. Have a look around eBay and you'll see case's only with the above features selling for the same or more.

  • He does have stock of these 2Tb for the same price..
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BUFFALO-DRIVESTATION-DUO-2TB-HARD…

    • The 2x 1TB drives in the follow-on box do NOT seem to be 7,200 RPM drives.

How large can each of the unit's hard drives be, at max?

  • That's a pretty good deal considering that it's being sold within Australia

  • hey guys,
I know this is expired but in case anyone is still interested. i just took apart a different model buffalo 2Tb drive which I purchased about a year ago and they use the Seagate Barracuda 5900rpm drives.
    hope this helps

  • I know its late, but I thought I'd add my comments about the disks in the 1TB drives from this sale.
I bought the last two of these drives. One has a Seagate Barracuda ST310005 and the other has a Samsung HD103SJ.
From a quick check on the net, both are 7200rpm SATA II drives with 32 MB cache.
The drives came with all cables (USB, FW400, FW800 & eSATA), and were delivered in super fast time.
I'm sorry that I missed out on the 2TB models, but these were a good deal.

    • Got mine on the 8th in Canberra, but did not collect box from post office until today. I ordered two, and the two drive boxes came in one large box with zero packing/padding around the inner boxes. There was about 10-15cm loose space at one end of the big box for the drive boxes to slide back and forth in.

Opened one of the drives, the cardboard shock mount around the drive was crushed at the bottom, as if the bigger box was dropped and the inertia had crushed the cardboard mount (and it's not that unusual for Aust Post to drop a large box). The little packet of silica gel inside the drive bag had been broken open (by rough treatment, I guess) and the beads were rolling around inside the drive bag. Some are trapped inside the drive enclosure now. Haven't powered up the drive yet, but even if it works now I'll end up exercising it for a couple of weeks before I trust it, so it's no bargain from a time point of view.

So, cheap drives alright, and if you're lucky they might even still work by the time you get them. Would have far preferred non-express postage and some decent packing. Maybe if I lived in Sydney the drives would have had an easier journey.
