Help with Purchasing a New NBA League Pass

Hi fellow NBA fans! Has anyone successfully purchased a new NBA League Pass recently (i.e. not renewals)?
I am trying to purchase one via VPN as per the steps described in many earlier posts (e.g. via Argentina, Honduras, Algeria etc.), but without luck… Every time I got into the "League Pass" page on my laptop (browser = Chrome), it is forcing me to download the NBA App…

I've tried clearing cookies, starting new browser sessions, setting up a new NBA account with new email, but to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

I think it might still just be me but would like to ask if anyone has had success recently, and what are the steps and URL you followed.

Many thanks for your help!

  • Above where it asks you to download the App, do you see a giant banner that says

"NBA League Pass and NBA TV Will Be Available For Purchase Ahead of Next Season"

    • Yes I do!

      • I assume that means they are not for sale yet.

  • I haven't bought it yet this year but what worries me is that the season may very well not go ahead in full.

all it will take is a 1 team outbreak that will put the entire league in jeopardy.

    • Really valid point mate. And they can't play an entire season in the bubble… What a crazy world we live in today!

    • NBA season may not go ahead? Lebron could die from Covid and they will just postpone the Lakers next game at most. There's too much money involved and as you may already know, America loves making the richer even richer.

The season is definitely happening regardless of how many cases they get. Plus they bought in a new covid rule for players breaching covid rules (thanks to Harden currently in Vegas with strippers) and will get fined 100k. The player pays that too, not the team. The season is definitely going ahead. So far starting in January. There is only a massive increase because of Thanksgiving. There will be another spike come Christmas. Then teams will get their players in camp and start getting ready for the January start date.

      • LOL! If Covid doesn't kill Donald Trump, I don't think it will kill Lebron… but then again, only the good die young…

      • Basketball is different to the NFL

        for example;

Day 4 - Team A and Team B play a game and 4 players test positive

        Day 1 - Team A played Team C and Team B played team D

        Day 4 - Team C played team E and Team D played team F

in the space of a few days there are 6 teams that have to quarantine. and those 6 teams will be scheduled to play 10 different teams in the next 2 days.

        • They will just call up players from their G-League teams to fill in and/or do a bunch of 10 day contracts. The NBA isn't stopping for Covid. America isn't stopping for Covid unfortunately.

      • But it's starting in December

    • When they went into hiatus last sesaon I requested partial refund and they refunded me 30%. Not a huge deal if it does not go ahead or gets terminated for a period of time.

Although would still look for a VPN discount.

  • Which VPN are you using? I found connecting to Brazil didn't work with my paid Surfshark VPN but worked fine for a free one. I think I used TunnelBear.

    • PureVPN. Thanks for helping :)

    • I'm using Tunnelbear free and it keeps showing me AUD prices not Brazil or Indian prices… hmmm Ghostery VPN just shows up as geoblocked.

edit now even Tunnelbear is showing up as geoblocked

I guess the NBA won't even be getting my $20 this year, looks like I will be streaming it.

  • Which currency is the cheapest these days?

  • It looks like they are available to purchase now. Anyone know where to connect VPN to get cheapest league pass but still being able to watch games without VPN?

    • I have this exact question. I usually get last and just let my Canada renew but it’s about $150

    • -1

I think that this loophole has been closed. You now need to watch with VPN located to same country as purchase, problem with this is connectivity.

My question is has anybody that has an Australian subscription for 19/20 been offered a discount for 20/21?

      • I think the loophole is closed in the sense that the subscription page blocks all connection via vpn. However, I don't read anywhere that viewing country has to be the same as the country used to subscribe. (Any link on this?) Unless you're talking about India (requiring VPN to watch) which as always been the case.

      • +4

I tried watching without VPN using my LP subscribed via south africa and it works.

        • +2

Oh that's excellent news! My Indian sub which expires on the 17th is geoblocked, so have packed my bags and moving to RSA 😁

          • @adr8: How do you intend to sign up?

            • +3

@Penpinch: I used Windscribe VPN earlier and prices are R739.99 (AU$65), so hopefully it lets me sign up. Submitted a support ticket for a possible fix of the Indian server so waiting for Windscribe to get back to me before I try RSA.

  • Sorry but from what I have seen online this option no longer may be available… apparently the NBA now blocks servers from known VPN’s. If you log in to the app you will see Australian pricing… turn on your VPN and I get the error it’s no longer available in your region… am using IPvanish and have previously purchased via India…..

Would love for someone else to advise how they bypass it… will search for forums on blocking vpn’s and post as well.

    Going from $20 a year to $240!!!

  • I actually need to provision an Azure Spot Instance VM for legitimate work purposes. I will provision a VM in India and see if I can have any luck.

    • +1

      How did you go?

      • My previous VM (Australia Central) that I provisioned was not evicted and hence I had to reuse that VM for now. I am going to wait for other people who have had success signing up on other methods and ensuring the streams can be watched before purchasing this season.
As others have said, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the league can shut down, I will only purchase from India this year.

      • OK, I just provisioned a Azure Spot Instance VM in West India and that does not work. Looks like the Tunnel Bear option is the way to go.

  • Gosh they have blocked all the VPN services it seems. Now to weigh up to just watch via nbastreams or to keep trying VPN services. I think Tunnelbear seems to have worked.

  • i used the mexican league pass last year, recieved an email that i will be charged in mexican pesos (about $110 aud) for the upcoming season, does anyone think i will have to run the vpn while watching games this year?

    • same question/s as you. I'm not sure whether or not I should cancel, or if I don't, will I even be able to watch the games at all?

Also, what is the actual login link? I used to go to watch.nba.com , but that page isn't loading up for me now.

  • I can't even seem to login. I've been signed up via Mexico the past few seasons and just let it auto renew. What happens if I let it auto-renew again? Will I have to use a VPN just to login and/or also would I need the VPN on to watch the games? If that is the case, should I cancel my current subscription? Do they give refunds after you've paid them if you change your mind and say you don't want it anymore, or do you have to cancel before the auto-renewal kicks in?

    • Yes disappointing that NBA league pass is no longer available via VPN. I am trying to cancel my auto-renewal however I can't even login. I would suggest cancelling auto-renewal before you are slugged for the pass and can't even access NBA

      • +2

I just did a password change via 'forgotten password' and was able to login after changing my password. I followed what they said (minimum of 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, special character and number etc.), and after changing my password, I was able to login. Can you guys try that? My previous password didn't meet that criteria, so I wonder if it was to do with that?

Also, I want to cancel my Mexican sub and try signing up with another locale, but not sure if I should just let it auto renew just in case I can't signup again via VPN again?

Those of you who are saying you can't sign up via VPN, are you able to login and it's just not showing the currency is whatever country you've chosen?

  • Sounds like the ride is over

  • +2

I used smartdns service which bypasses the geoblock. Quoted 999 rupee (about $18) for the full season. But there is a notification at the bottom saying 'Your NBA League Pass service will be available for use in India only'.

    • +1

isnt subscribing to india ever since require you to connect von to india while watching? last year I chose south africa and didnt require me to connect to SA while watching.. Got a league pass subscription around $70 i think.

      • +1

Had the Indian League Pass for the last three years, only need VPN to log in. You can then stream the games without VPN, not sure if it's the same this year though.

        • thank you for this.. i might risk this. its really cheap.

          • @changot: Na last year at least you had to use the VPN everytime you had to login via India

            • @bobbysac: Yes everytime you login in, which for me was everytime I wanted to stream a game as it automatically logged me out after a certain period.

After being geoblocked with Windscribe browser extension and Android TV App, I decided to try the Windows App and finally got to stream games via laptop. Same as last year, log in via VPN, disconnect VPN and then stream game.

              • @adr8: Oh yeah my bad I get what you mean. What windows app are you referring to?

                • +1

@bobbysac: You can download Windows App here https://windscribe.com/download

Hopefully they fix the Android TV App soon as I much prefer that.

                  • +1

@adr8: Thanks! Is it easier just doing South Africa or another country so then you only have to VPN one-off to purchase it?

    • +1

I also can confirm using surfshark connect to india-mumbai. Im quoted 999 rupee with the disclaimer.

  • no nba league vpn… kinda makes me sad… 😢

  • +1

I got a renewal email about a month ago. I'm being charge via South Africa for ZAR 739.99 = AUD$66.50. I'm happy with that price for a league pass. No VPN required.

    • Ok so I tried with my South Africa VPN (via Norton) and got, 'Service is not available in your region.' Same message with Australian VPN. VPN turned off and I can access the full page to buy a league pass for AUD $239.99. Ok well it will be interesting to see if I can still watch games with the auto renewal SA account. I didn't need a VPN to watch games before.

      • +5

I purchased a South African NBA league daypass today with Windscribe VPN. Can confirm only need VPN to sign up, can then log in and stream games without VPN.

        • +1

im using surfshark but when I select South Africa the price I'm offered is for USD. when I use speedify it is geo blocked. @adr8 did you do any configurations on your windscribe? I currently have the free version of windscribe and would like to see what you did exactly before I'll subscribe. thanks.

          • +3

@changot: All I did was select Johannesburg server using Windscribe browser extension in Chrome. Price is then in Rand, you can then change to USD if you want to pay via paypal.

            • +1

@adr8: Subscribed custom plan South Africa in windscribed for $2. Connected to SA - Johannesburg and was able to use paypal to pay annual league pass for $59.41

Turned off the vpn and started watching league pass videos without issues.

Thanks @adr8 for the heads up. I think it is now safe to post this on the deals page so everyone can take advantage of this.

  • Well, in good news I was able to access the Indian sub using the windscribe extension. Bad news, none of the videos will play. I've done everything I can think of (ad blockers, cookies etc)…anyone happen to have any ideas?

    • +3

Once logged in you have to switch off Windscribe extension as it won't play videos with an adblocker.

      • Yup, tried that one too. Still no go :(

  • I was successfully able to VPN to Mexico using Surfshark and purchase for $1700 peso which was ~110AUD.

Can watch videos without VPN on.

    • Mine just shows USD price with Surfshark Mexico

      • same. did what @adr8 for south africa using surfshark instead of windscribe still being greeted with USD currency.

@sakurarar how did you use surfshark on your scenario? any configuration changes? did you use windows app or chrome extension? TIA

        • +1

I use the Windows app, I dunno. I tried South Africa and got USD prices, cleared cache/browser and turned on to Mexico, went to watch.nba.com and then hti subscribe, gave me the price in Peso's.

I went through, bought it and watched my Suns play the Lakers today in Firefox off the VPN. :D

          • @sakurarar: thanks for the update! suns gonna be good this season! also their earned and city jersey this season are dope!

  • Anyone successfully watched preseason games with their India League Pass yet?
I just get "Please check closer to tipoff for available viewing options." when the game is live.

  • +1

A friend just purchased the Indian league pass for $20aud using surfshark vpn. Working fine on pc playing pre season games today!

  • +4

I have surfshark vpn and tried a bunch of countries no luck.
I even used the chrome plugin for surfshark to different places. All came up in USD.

Ended Up getting it to work using windscribe South Africa vpn (chrome plugin). Got a sub for R739. Which is about 65 AUD.

Been able to watch the preseason games no vpn

Windscribe isn't free for the South Africa vpn so I had to do a custom selection and chose South Africa which is 2$ a month cancel anytime.

Clear your browser data between each attempt so there's no cookies left.

Hope this helps someone else get a new sub.

    • This worked like a charm, thank you mgtra!

  • +1

Interesting I just got automatically subbed for NBA LP annual… It says 48.99 USD (67.70 AUD) on my paypal. I think I was HNL1200 before.

  • +2

My Mexican league pass auto renewed today. $117 aud
    No vpn needed to watch.

  • +1

My NBA plan automatically debited today: ~ $59.41 AUD (42.99 USD)

    NBA League Pass Annual, Dec 17, 2020 - Sep 1, 2021

Nil issues watching like normal in Australia. no VPN required

  • My one was with canada, cost me about $130 last year from memory. If I wanna try the south Africa route, do I just cancel the auto renew then purchase through South Africa?

  • +3

I just used Tunnel Bear on PC to purchase Annual League Pass for $65 AUD from Argentina.

Can confirm I can watch without VPN

    • Did you create a new nba league pass account? and which country is your account under?

      • I used my existing account. Pretty sure it's under Australia

    • Thanks for this. Just did the same using mackdonaldzzz's instructions below but picking Argentina. Paid $40 last year just to watch last month of playoffs.. never again.

    • +1

I can confirm Chrome incognito + clearing cookies + Tunnel Bear + Argentina subscription worked for me this morning. Can watch on my NBA app on Android without vpn

      • I can get through to purchase but it refuses to process the payment. I get a warning saying it could not process the payment. This happens no matter which country.

Is this an NBALP thing, or is this because of my bank?

      • Also - when using Argentina to purchase, do you set the country as AREGENTINA in NBA, or can I have country set as Australia?

        • If vpn is working, you should be in AR region

          • @HLTT: Thanks.

Anyone know about the payment error message: "There was an error processing payment using the payment option you supplied…."

Pretty sure this is an issue with the bank, not with NBALP. But any ideas how to get around it?

            • @chyeah: Any luck figuring this out? I had the same issue but was unsure if it was bank or NBALP thing…

              • @bigharpo: I spoke with my bank - they said it is a LP issue.

If it was a bank issue, the bank would see a transaction attempted on the card, but they had no record of a transation coming their way. So seems NBA is blocking it somehow.

Has anyone tried with a prepaid debit card? I'm thinking that might be an option.

                • @chyeah: I was trying to use my debit card, ended up using a credit card and it worked fine.

    • I can confirm Chrome incognito + clearing cookies + Tunnel Bear + Argentina subscription worked for me this morning. Can watch on my NBA app on Android without vpn

    • +1

did this but also used promo code SWISH20 to get price down to $49 AUD. cheers

  • +1

I just used Tunnel Bear on PC to purchase NBA league pass though India for $20 AUD.

    • Hey mate, could you detail on how you did it? Did you create a new league pass account? If you could detail the process that would be great!

      • +1

        Installed tunnel bear
Signed up for tunnel bear (free for first 500mb)
        Connect to the India location
I used incognito mode in Chrome go to watch.nba.com or whatever the nba league pass site is

The subscription should show 999 Rupees

I clicked purchase and signed in to my nba account I have been using for years.

I paid the 999 rupees with my Westpac MasterCard. Came out to $17.83 when I checked my statement.

Turn off tunnel bear, log into nba and enjoy

        • Thanks for the detail! really appreciate it. So you don't need the VPN at all to watch?

          • @nabstar6: No need

            • @mackdonaldzzz: unless they changed it.. pretty sure indian was the one country where you need VPN to watch it.

            • @mackdonaldzzz: Lol so what are the other guys here talking about needing VPN for India. Anyway we'll see tomorrow when first games come out :) keep us updated mate

          • @nabstar6: VPN is only needed when you login to NBA App/Site. When your game is Loading you can,and you should turn it off and you can watch the games.

        • I did this, its givng me USD prices at what look like US rates. $249.99

          • @bobdobal: Not sure why it’s not working for you.

            • @mackdonaldzzz: When connecting to india with tunnel bear, I noticed it would give me blackout teasm. Sometime new york, other times the suns. I guess sometimes it works out of india other times not. When I connected to Argentina I get the Argentina pricing.

        • This worked for me first try. But when I logged back in my account after closing VPN it shows recent charges but it does not show the updated subscription package. I can watch preseason fine without VPN.

For those who still see AUD, make sure the connection is established with tunnel bear before you log onto nba tv.

          • @Esonos: Same here. Sometimes it lists the subscription and other times it's blank. Also noticed it happening several times during last season, can still stream games so I'm guessing it's just a glitch.

            • @adr8: hey guys are you all able to watch games (subscribed through India) on your phone without VPN?
              how about laptop?

              cheers

              • @kgree92: I only need VPN to log in to my account, can then watch games (mobile or laptop) without VPN connected. I still needed a VPN throughout the season as it would log me out after awhile.
