Help with Purchasing a New NBA League Pass

Hi fellow NBA fans! Has anyone successfully purchased a new NBA League Pass recently (i.e. not renewals)?
I am trying to purchase one via VPN as per the steps described in many earlier posts (e.g. via Argentina, Honduras, Algeria etc.), but without luck… Every time I got into the "League Pass" page on my laptop (browser = Chrome), it is forcing me to download the NBA App…

I've tried clearing cookies, starting new browser sessions, setting up a new NBA account with new email, but to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

I think it might still just be me but would like to ask if anyone has had success recently, and what are the steps and URL you followed.

Many thanks for your help!

        • I got connected to India via Winscribe quoting the right price. Can't seem to get payments to work though, tried citi, suncorp, ing, hsbc and nab. Keep getting there was an error processing payment ….. What cards are working?

  • I feel like I remember someone had a spreadsheet of all of the different costs for each region last year. Am I crazy or does someone have that link handy?

If you turn off auto renew, they will offer 20% off in a couple days later. I was going to cancel it next season, don't think it would go well consider the covid situation in US + no all star games + shorten regular season. But I got the 20% off Argentina price, I'll stick for another year.

$65 accidental auto renew. cant be sad about that

  • so I bought it at like $35 last year when they relaunched the bubble then yesterday they autorenewed without notice $299

screw that, organising a chargeback. thats insane, and no notification prior

    • What region did you sign up?

      • just local (australia). ive reached out to customer support but being ignored

edit: to clarify, that price was a half price discount that was listed here for the bubble playoffs

        • They take 24-48hrs to respond to emails, use their chat option.

        • Response time varies, I've heard people got response in 3 days, mine took almost a week.

Everything seems to be working again on TunnelBear and the old nba account (India monthly subscription). I thought it was impossible this season. No geo-blockade both on NBA App or web extension. Wow. Everything is the old way.

    • Nba at this point probably figures they’ll try to get whatever money they can.

    • So how does that work? Do you need a vpn at all to use the Indian League Pass?

  • +1

I am confused - do we still need VPN to watch games for India?

  • So is the VPN backdoor open again?

  • I got a 7 day trial via Vpn to India and have to login to the nba app via India start the game up and then logout to watch. To Cheap to pass up but a bit of a hassle but I'm a tight ass first!!!

  • Forgot to turn off autorenew and just realised I got the autorenew for ZAR739.99 from previous years…. c.A$66.90….

      not a terrible price

So I tried everyone's suggestion here, finally got it to work. Here's how:

Windscribe (build your own plan - I chose Argentina and South Africa = $2, cancel when you're done). Used Windscribe app on phone to do all of the following (I used android)

    1. Select Argentina on Windscribe

    2. Open incognito page on Chrome and go to watch.nba.com (I created a new account while using Winscribe set to Argentina and set my location on NBA to Argentina. I even confirmed my account using email while on Argentina just to make sure nothing was going via Australia. Don't know if works with an old NBA account but someone may be able to comment)

    3. Select your subscription (should be in ARS$) and when prompted, log in to your NBA account

    4. Billing page —> used SWISH20 to go from ARS$3900 to ARS$3120 which is $49.56AUD

    - Now previously I had an issue with using a debit card and got an error message saying 'payment error', this time I used a credit card with the country/region box set to Argentina (don't know if works if it's set to Australia)

    1. Clicked Submit and BOOM, was able to watch today's games without VPN active. Have confirmed no VPN required to watch on either phone or laptop, only needed to buy subscription.

Got this working with this exact same step. I had to use my ANZ Qantas Frequent Flyer Black card. My AMEX Qantas Ultimate and Citibank Transaction Plus debit card did not go through.
I used my existing NBA League Pass account as well.

Thanks, the above steps worked. Thought I’d as some observations below that may help other users.

The process (on iPhone & using existing account):
      - I used a iPhone 11.
      - Had to subscribe to a custom plan via Windscribe’s website directly.
      - Google Chrome worked fine, barring some unprompted sign outs.
      - I used my existing League Pass account (which was valid through 28th Dec with 2019/20 League Pass anyway)
      - My League Pass is still showing my existing plan but this should change once I am charged on the 30th Dec i.e. after the “free 7 day trial” of the 2020/21 League Pass.

      Some extra info:
      - Windscribe seems to charge CAD $2, which was about $2.66 AUD. Best to use card with no Foreign fee charges.
      - NBA League Pass charges $1.13 AUD as a “holding”, probably 0.63GPD as it looks like charge from London. The final charge is on the 30th Dec, so can’t confirm yet total AUD charge.

    • Don't know if works with an old NBA account but someone may be able to comment

Yes I was able to purchase annual package with existing account that just happened to expire on the South African subscription. Fortunately for me, the payment failed with the auto renew, so jumped onto Argentina =)

Got me a 7 day free trial and then 30th Dec ARS$3120 will kick in.

      • Hi, why did you switch from South Africa to Argentina? It seems they're both a similar price.

        • Argentina is still slightly cheaper and even more so when using the SWISH20 promo code mentioned above. Had to repurchase a subscription as it failed to auto renew due to needing to re enter my credit card details, so took it as an opportunity to switch at the same time.

  • "This time I used a credit card with the country/region box set to Argentina"
    How did you do this?

    • There is a box that says country/region and is automatically set to 'ARGENTINA'. I was confused as to whether it in regards to what country the card you're using is from or whether it's asking what region you're in. Can someone shed light on this?

Tried to connect via Argentina using NordVPN and can't seem to work. Changed to South Africa instead and signed one up for AUD$53.70 with code SWISH20. Close enough to the ARS price.

  • Using India atm. Can confirm that VPN needs to be on when using the app initially. I turn off mine as soon as I am in the app. Bit annoying but cant complain with the price, paid 18 AUD

    • What VPN are you using?

      • Tunnelbear.

It stopped working and then I deleted and redownloaded the app, used tunnelbear and now its working again.

  • Just subbed using India, so far so good, haven't required a VPN to launch the app though? No live games at the moment to check. Will check again in an hour or so when the first games start at 11am.

    • Be interested to see how you go. My App on my android TV worked intially when I first put the India details in, but now gives an error when I try to play games. According to the app I have no subscription, log in with VPN on my PC and it shows the India sub (same account).

      • Have to log out, then log back in via VPN daily or sometimes every few hours.

        • It doesn't seem to work. On my PC/chrome tells me welcome back when I log in, directs me to watch a game then when I choose one to watch it says you don't have access to this game. I select manage subscription and it tells me I have league pass Annual through August 31 2021. I'm using windscribe, which worked fine for sign up.

          • @bobdobal: I just checked and the App is working fine on my end. Try clearing cache in the App.

Which game are you trying to watch?

            • @adr8: Pacers v Celtics. I have wiped the data in the app multiple times, doesn't seem to help. Are you working with apple or android. I'm on Android for both phone and TV - neither work. I wonder if I should just write India off and get Argentina. What VPN do you use?

              • @bobdobal: Checked on phone (android) & PC was able to watch Pacers vs Celtics live, however after logging in on PC had to switch off Windscribe extension or game wouldn't play. Can't check App on Android TV until I get home tonight.

                • @adr8: Cheers.

                  • +1

@bobdobal: Tried Android TV and it's a problem with Windscribe, switched to KeepSolid VPN and it's working fine. Send Windscribe a support ticket and I'm sure they'll fix it soon. You can still watch via PC with Windscribe extension if you want. Just remember to switch off extension in manage extensions after you log in to the NBA App.

      • Yep locked out. Worked for a game but then I quit the app on my phone and went back in like 10 mins later and says I have no sub 😂

Edit: just logged outta the app, force close, use India VPN, login and it works fine now lmao

        • what VPN are you using?

        • have you tried cast it to tv? curious if Indian sub can play on tv or the tv must connect to vpn as well?

          • @HLTT: Haven't tried on my TV yet. I have Android TV so I'm going to try the NBA app on it next time.

            • +1

@hebe: I also have android TV, I find the app on tv is unstable, so I always cast from iphone to tv. Look forward to hear your findings :)

              • +2

@HLTT: I got surfshark vpn, and it works. Goes nicely on my mibox. Guess my earlier issues were windscribe related.

                • @bobdobal: I was having the same issues of it asking me to subscribe again. I bought surfshark for 2 years and its working.

                  • @mackdonaldzzz: ok now i am having issues with India VPN not even being able access the NBA website

                    • @mackdonaldzzz: I was having the same issue, the last two days it's been on n off with accessing the app. I have been in contact with surfshark and they're aware of the issue and have said they will try to resolve it asap.
I'm guessing the NBA app on Android tv has had updates as to why it won't let us using India vpn in.

$49.10 AUD just got debited from my credit card today, on ARS sub with SWISH20 code… Happy days!!!

  • +1

As above can confirm NordVPN + South Africa works. Code SWISH20 used successfully. After 7 days should debit ~$54 from my bank account.

    • Same for me!

Asked for refund for my india subscription and switched to Argentina. Couldnt stand the vpn requirement

    • I had the same issue with the India subscription. I have switched to Argentina. How did you go about getting a refund for India subscription? Which contact details did you use?

      • Nba league pass twitter

    • Did you just say you wanted a refund? lol.

      • Ask and you shall receive my friend

    • good idea I am thinking of doing the same. The VPN requirement is quite tedious. Can you still confirm you don't need a VPN after signing up through Argentina?

      • Confirmed!

        • Thanks I just got it through Argentina and asked for a refund on the India one.

          • @mackdonaldzzz: Hi mate. What VPN did you use? Trying to use Argentina via VyprVPN and cost for League Pass keeps coming up as 199 USD

            • @hebe: I used Surfshark.

It also showed up at USD 199 at first. Use incognito mode. If you’re are signed in, make sure to sign out, clear cache and try again.

              • @mackdonaldzzz: I'm with surfshark and I'm unable to get league to change. It keeps coming with USD for Argentina and South Africa servers.. even tried clearing cache and data, going incognito

                • @ay-papii: sorry don't know how to help you. Can someone else chime in?

                  • @mackdonaldzzz: Quick update… Ended up getting a refund from the Indian subscription.
Will try others but if not successful I'll just have to stream them somewhere else, YouTube later on or get onto another free trial of kayo

  • Any new discount code? SWISH20 does not work anymore

  • Use tunnelbear VPN then use Argentina it come out at $59.99 AUD. Just did this last week

    • I can't get argentina to show that price, it only has 70$USD, I can get south africa to get me $65 AUD using NordVPN

      • I think that's a good price, don't worry about the Argentina then

        • Yeah think ill go with it, was just looking to see if there was a active discount code running since they seem to have one going most of the time

  • Not sure if this is something new this year, but upon checking NBA League Pass subscription options, I notice there is a premium option which allows you to stream to 2 devices at the same time. FINALLY they caught up to Kayo, Disney + and the likes!

Available for the whooping price of AUD$389.99!

I was trying to look around other countries but I could only find the standard League Pass option and not the "premium" option :(

Has anyone had luck finding a cheaper option to get the premium option?

    • thanks for the info with regards to the premium option offer.

i just subscribed with south africa the other day for $71 and did not see premium option unfortunately.

      • +1

a quick check on league pass in turkey i can see the premium pass at 759L == $118 aud.

looks like this is cheaper if sharing it with another person.

        might do it next year.

I also found out that you can stream from desktop and phone at the same time with the regular leaguepass

      • Does anyone know if Brazil needs you to watch through VPN, after signup?.

Also do you put the country in during the sign up process, IE Brazil.

Seems their premium works out to about $105 AUD

  • I got it working using Brazil. $106AUD for premium.
