Geo Blocked - NBA League Pass

I just received an email that I need to update my payment details for my League Pass, I was usually get it via Argentina. I thought to play it safe I would log in via Argentina again however I was "geo blocked" tried two VPNs and had the same issue, anyone having this problem or know a work around?

I'm sure if I just renew my details I will be charged the rate in peso but just don't want to risk it.

Well if they make it impossible for you to pay then I reckon there is no moral issue in finding 'other' solutions…….

    • -2

Impossible? it's very easy to buy an Australian pass or a Kayo subscription, OP just wants to pay the Argentinian price. If you want to object to location based pricing that's fine but don't pretend it is something it isn't.

      • Thanks for the elaboration. What's the price difference?

    • +2

I'd be happy to pay for something that works and is great, I pay for both Spotify, Netflix and Steam (if that counts) after finding "other" solutions for years. League Pass is not great, if it was a better service I'd pay for it in a heartbeat.

      • Is your spotify still working? Mine stopped working the other day and been told I can only use my premium for 14 days at abroad.

I'm on the family plan, which is only 3 dollars a month each, I'm on the plan with 5 of my brothers and sisters that all live at the same address ;).

      • what's wrong with LP? i've been subscribing via the various cheap methods, and never had an issue. Only reason I haven't re-subcribed this year, is i'm waiting to see if anything cheaper pops up (would be $70ish to renew through Argentina). I use it on iphone, laptop and Apple TV. Only issue I've found is with Telstra TV, and that was the scores were out of whack

        • League Pass on the OG Chromecast is terrible. It buffers constantly for me, I have better results pirating a stream on PC and casting my screen.

          • @InfraRed: Is it possible to get replays of the games or is pirating live streaming only?

            • @adr8: I do live stream only - there are places you could get replays, but it's not as convienient as a stream site so I never bother. Plus league pass is a lot more bareable as a replay vs live on Chromecast.

              • @InfraRed: You wouldn't happen to know where I could get the replays?

  • I've signed up last year with SA cheap ( $30 ) just got email saying they will charge me around $60 for new season. Still good I think

    • As a fellow South African thanks for the info, I have been wondering.

  • Got the same email this morning and went in and updated my credit card without a VPN. Hoping that didnt screw things up!

    • Was your card expired tho?

      • Mine was expired and I just updated it now. Hopefully they charge me $80 for argentina this year too

        • Yeah mine was too.

My brother in law got the same email but his card wasn't expired so I was a bit worried and didn't renew. Lucky as I see people are getting blocked!

          • @JayMoney: So I had a chat with their live chat. I previously had my subscription as Argentina, they confirmed that my renewal price is the same $80 AUD. So it looks like renewals are fine but people trying to use the hack for the first time are out of luck

            • @GossipGoat: Damn! They said it was AUD or is that converted?

I got an email this morning that my renewal was cancelled and they didn't want to see me go and if I get in contact with them I get 20% off. Will be interesting to see the reply.

              • @JayMoney: Sorry converted, ie im still getting argentinian price but if I try to sign up instead of renew it states geo-blocked.

                Good luck to you though

                • @GossipGoat: That's so good. Surely they would of been aware that you are streaming it in Australia, I subbed from Argentina last season too, I was able to watch the preseason games today as I have access until 28 Dec apparently

      • Just saw this. Yea it expired this year. Had a look at my cc statement and I got charged $63 for league pass this year so happy with that. Hope it worked out for you as well!

  • are new signup's started yet?

    • Yeah but it only seems you have to access the Australian site

  • VPNing to South Africa worked. about $70AUD

    • Can I know which VPN service are you using? Using nordvpn connecting to south africa doesn't seem to work for me.

      • Did you have any luck I used Express VPN and it didnt work :(

      • purevpn

    • this a new sign up? which VPN did you use?
any issues with credit card payment etc?
      thanks

      • Did you have any luck I used Express VPN and it didnt work :(

  • I had the same issue as well..been using NordVPN to India last season.
    tried to access league pass today to watch pre-season. its blocked. they are finally catching up to us :{

  • Same here, tried Windscribe, Ivacy, KeepSolid & VPN Secure all blocked, might try switching to Argentina if Windscribe support can't find a fix.

  • Argentina geoblocked also. South Africa doesn't appear to be blocked, prices are R739.99 (AU$65). Anyone here have a subscription?

    • Using Windscribe?

My RSA sub renewed, but trying to sign up for a mate. Prices always come up in US$

      • Yes, Windscribe. Can you watch the preseason games with your existing RSA sub? If so, do you need VPN to watch the games or just to sign up?

        • Yes, can watch preseason without VPN. I've also received an email saying it will renew using RSA rand (approx $70 Aus)

    • did sign up via South africa work?

      • +1

Yet to sign up. Currently waiting for Windscribe support to review my logs for a possible fix to Indian servers. Going by the comments on here, signing up via South Africa still works.

        • gotta have Windscribe premium to access South Africa?
          know any free RSA VPN's?

  • Got Indian League Pass working using Windscribe Windows App, browser extension and Android App still not working. For now will use laptop to stream games and hopefully soon Windscribe fix the Android TV App.

    • Windscribe have fixed the App & browser extension, can now stream games via the Indian Servers :)

Just did a new sign up with a new NBA account
Windscribe Premium (just paid for 1 month - $2) to South Africa
    739 rand
Charged to my aussie credit card no probs

    • Thanks for this. Just signed up mate up using the process you described. Had some issues with CC payment. Had to leave the country as South Africa instead of Australia for it to go through.

  • I had to update my payment details as my credit card expired and got charged a couple of days ago in my preferred currency of Mexican pesos still. Ended up being about $115 AUD. Happy with that.

  • I'm about to sign up through Indian server through my VPN but on NBA it states "Your NBA League Pass service will be available for use in India only"

Does that mean everytime I want to watch a game I have to choose India as my server?

    • You only need the VPN to log in to your account, then disconnect VPN to watch the game. Last season I had to log in each game as it would automatically log me out after awhile.

      • Okay thanks.
Although how come they say that the service will only be available to use in India only?

Sorry for the question but as you can prob tell I have not used VPN for NBA subscription

        • Have had the Indian League Pass for the last few years and it's been fine, so not sure. If you read the thread it was geoblocked during preseason until Windscribe came up with a fix, so no guarantees that it won't get geoblocked again.

          • @adr8: Yeah so it let me create an account but won't accept payment from my travel or debit card..? Even if I choose the country as India and Australia as well

            • +1

@ay-papii: On the page where you choose subscription, try changing currency to US, it should then be USD $13.99, then on the next page it should give you the option to pay via PayPal after sign up/logging in. Also use promo code SWISH20 for a further 20% discount.

Edit: SWISH20 isn't valid, so disregard.

              • +1

                @adr8: You are a legend!
Thanks very much!! It worked through changing it to USD and PayPal option. Cheap as chips

  • I just used NordVPN and signed up through South Africa. Worked. Used my ING Debit card to pay.

  • So looks like NBA has blocked Indian servers because I'm not able to access the app through my VPN anymore but the app works fine when I'm not connected to the Indian vpn

    • I can still access the App, might have to try another VPN. More discussion about it here

      • I can access the app when my VPN is not connected to India (surfshark).
I've contacted them and they're trying to fix the issue.

        • Yeah someone mentioned Surfshark not working in the other thread. Windscribe also stopped working last week, but has since been fixed. I have a few VPNs that I purchased cheap lifetime subs from OzBargain so it hasn't affected me yet. Wasn't like this the last few seasons, appears NBA are making it increasingly difficult to access the Indian League Pass this year.

  • Trying to sign-up for new 2020-21 season. What's the best VPN/geography way to get an annual deal now?

I hear people getting annual passes for like $60 but I'm not seeing it.

    I tried PIA VPN through:
    - Vietnam: No annual option. ₫256000/mo ~ AUD$15.22/mo.
    - South Africa: I get "Access Denied. You don't have permission to access "http://watch.nba.com/streaming-subscriptions" on this server.
    Reference #18.ad9f3617.1628543712.3bdfbe5"
    - Argentina: No annual option. I get 3 monthly options (NBA TV USD$6.99/mo, LEAGUE PASS PREMIUM USD$39.99/mo and LEAGUE PASS USD$28.99/mo)

    • I just got the renewal email from the Argentina sign up that I first started in 2018 - it’s gone up a fair amount this year to ARS 6,160.00 which is around $86 as apposed to the $62 from last year
