Quickest way to get a 3070 or 3080 at RRP

Hi guys, I took the gamble and foolishly sold my 1080 a week before the 3080 was released, never bought a card on release and didn't think it was going to be a nightmare.

At first I was was refusing to preorder, now I willing too im just wondering if anyone knows the best route to go. Do the sellers literally charge the whole amount for a preorder? Happy with any 3080 at rrp

Unfortunately my time machine is getting serviced at the moment.

How is yours? It seems like that time travel or being patient and waiting for stock are the best options available if you're looking for a RRP solution. When you see one, grab it quick.

From what I've read, not only is there a demand issue, there is a silicon supply issue gumming up the works.

I've read some people are going down the route of ordering a whole system just to get the video card. To me, that option doesn't make sense, but YMMV.

  • I ordered 3 hrs after release, got the card today, 11-12 weeks later. Odds of getting a 3080 at rrp are 0 to none, and yes was charged the whole amount day1.

    • Thanks, this is the advice I was after

      • Any reason you're after the RTX 3080 instead of the RX 6800xt?
I think it's either worth switching to Team Red, or waiting for Nvidia/AIB Partners to drop some variants of the RTX 3080 with proper VRAM (Rumoured 20GB? Even 16GB is enough).

        • No reason at all id try 6800xt sure

  • There are some 3070's in stock but can't find anyone currently with 3080's.

Show the manager of a PC shop a good time. Think along the lines of vacuum cleaner attachments.

  • Look hard, they come up with stock every day if you know where to look, in particular you want to be looking at the smaller stores.

  • I impulse bought one of the 'flash sales' and managed to get a 3070 for $879 on Cyber Monday, only for the retailer to turn around and just tell me now they are actually out of stock and will likely not be in until the 23/12 - meaning by the time they ship it to WA it will be mid Jan at the earliest.

I stopped by PLE for something else today and tested the waters and was told it would be early next year but could have grabbed a 3060Ti straight away!

Likely just to cancel my order and wait until next year in the hopes that sanity prevails and hopefully grab a 3080 instead.

I'd be surprised if you get a 3080 before Q2 of 2021 to be perfectly honest. My suspicion is that Nvidia never really wanted to release a 3080, but rather they wanted to release 3080 Ti's (which are much closer to the 3090), but they couldn't get that sort of yields on the GA102, so they binned the good ones to the 3090 and the poorer ones to the 3080.

Now that the manufacturing process is improving, they're likely saving the good dies for 3080 Ti's rather than releasing them as 3080's, so I suspect that 3080 stock will be limited until that 3080 Ti drops. If you can get a 3060 Ti today, I'd just go with that, then sell later on and jump on a 3080 Ti. If you're lucky to get early stock of a 3080 Ti when it launches, you'll probably be able to sell your 3060 Ti for not much loss.

      • You can get them much faster than that.

Spoke to a retailer on the phone, the cards that are coming in on a regular basis are the MSI Gaming Trio and the Gigabyte Gaming Eagle. Placed an order on Tuesday for the Gigabyte rtx 3080 as he said there was only one person in queue for it and they get about 9 cards every 3-4 weeks and it was ready for pickup on Thursday. Have it with me right now. He said it's about 6 cards for the MSI one and there was 12 people in queue for that.

I was telling everyone that the price ditch after the announcement was temporary and that nobody would be getting cards until maybe Feb - Mar 2021. Plenty of people laughed in my face. I offered to make bets with people saying cards would be widely available by December. None of them agreed to a bet.

Quickest way to get a 3070 or 3080 at RRP

What do you mean by RRP? Nvidia's "RRP" is nonsense. Cards will never sell at the RRP. The 2080 Ti never sold at its RRP unless it was on sale. So if you're waiting for $1100-ish 3080's, it likely won't happen unless you get lucky.

The 3060 Ti and 3070 are fairly easy to get stock, the 3060 Ti models that are around $850 have plenty of stock, but the $750 ones are still coming up quite short, but I reckon they should be coming pretty soon. The 3070 is the same, the $900 ones are coming up short, but if you want to pay $1000 for a more expensive model, there's plenty of stock.

Of course, if you're game, you might as well go for the 3090 ;) which is also pretty easy to find stock. The 3080 is in a weird sport really. I reckon Nvidia's yields are pretty poor on the GA102 overall. The GA104 seems to have much better yields.

  • Had to pay $1799 for a $1499 card, RRP hahaha.

    • cuz some one can earn more than $300 within 3 months waiting time for a RRP price.

Check bit coin price these days its crazy

PLE was charging $1139 for this one(cheapest 3080) and just 2 days ago raised all 3080 prices. now this one is $1259
