Op was referring to it being a good price for that particular nike air max sneaker not to your personal standard of what you consider a good price.

000, I would like to report a murder!

If you train in $30 shoes then prepare for $300 podiatrist.

Anyway it's Nike Air Max. Have a look at what they sell for 2nd hand on Facebook/Gumtree and maybe you'll realise that paying less for them brand new makes them a bargain.

      • wait.. people buy 2nd hand shoes?!

        • +2

Yes, particularly sneakers in colourways that can't be found in store anymore.

Have to be careful of fakes though. With the prices of Vapormax and 720s being $200+ in store, the copies on Aliexpress have got really convincing. I own a couple of the fakes and they are fine for daily standard walking/sitting around. I wouldn't train or run in them though as they are stiffer, heavier and don't ergonomically hug the foot like the real ones do. I think spending more on quality footwear is a bargain in the long run when it comes to exercising shoes.

      • I have bought Nike Air Max from Platypus and Hype DC for $30 before. What is wrong with $30 shoes?

        • Congratulations on the excellent bargain, perhaps you could share the $30 Air Max deal with us?

          • @studentl0an: It was shared here not that I found the bargain myself.

            • +4

@wtfnodeal: Oh, so long ago and not available for a long, long time?

Could you tell me more about the bargains you had back in the day that aren't available anymore? Maybe you could tell me about the time you were in Shelbyville and put an onion on your belt, which was the style at the time?

              • -2

@studentl0an: You should answer my question —> what is wrong with $30 shoes? 00 was simply stating his standard about $30 shoes were good price (maybe compared with other deals posted here before) but it didn’t mean he would buy shoes which would lead to a $300 podiatrist.

                • @wtfnodeal: Because they don't exist. The ones for $30 were Delta Force SBs and are not running shoes. They are heavy vulkanised skater shoes like converse all stars with crap support.
                  https://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/entry/podiatrists-think-ab…

If you can find well rated runners for $30 then by all means do so. The problem is that you are equating $30 to be what decent trainers cost. That's just not true.

If you use low quality shoes, which $30 RRP shoes are, then be prepared to spend money at the podiatrist if you are someone who uses those shoes to exercise often.

Everyone who exercises often has run into this issue where cheap shoes = pain and discomfort well after jogging. It's not rocket science. If you went jogging often you would know this just by feel alone, but my guess is you don't.

                  • @studentl0an: Current Adidas deal might have some good runners (Run Falcon) for around $30. They are $63 - 40% - 8% cashback.

Don't know how wide they are though.
                    Need a wide forefoot shoe..

These Max's still a bit wider?

                    • @tunzafun001: I find Adidas to fit wider feet better, which I have, but I prefer Nike style more.

With Nike I go up a full size and I find it to be fine for me.

                      • @studentl0an: My perfect fitting shoe is the Nike Air Structure Zoom… Bowermann running series…. and they don't make anything close anymore : (

4 Years of buying multiple pairs, sending back.

Just bought 7 different types from the Adidas sale, hopefully one comfy shoe in there.

                        • +1

@tunzafun001: Whoa 7 pairs! In the past Adidas have always been a better fit for my wide feet than Nike, but I don't like Adidas styling. I'm surprised to hear that your best fitting shoe is a Nike as I always thought they are for narrower feet.

If none of the 7 fit well, the best fitting shoes I've ever had were Asics that I went to The Footlocker to be sized up for using their walking machine. It did cost me over $200 for the pair more than 10 years ago, but I really needed the best at the time as a job I went for required high levels of fitness. They only lasted 8 months because I went running so often in them.

                          • @studentl0an: Well, the Adidas shoes are too skinny and shorter than their size suggests (I'm a EUR 45 - which can be anything from a 9 to a 12, but mostly a US 11) never failed me until Adidas. Adidas say their 11s are 45 1/3. Definitely smaller. 7 pairs going back.

Ultraboosts, felt pretty hard underfoot (but I'm coming from Nike Air, not the half assed foam that Nike are now pumping out. Karimor Dumas from Sportsdirect feel like a better shoe to me than Ultraboosts, and they are under $50 delivered. Could be a little wider for my feet, but the best outside zoom structures.

I'll try the Asics (cheers), but not a fan of their colours. Prefer the simple black/white/ grey of Nike.

Currently gluing up my old Zoom Structures :( (bought second hand from eBay US…. desperate much..yes), but absolute heaven on my feet. Went to NY last year, none their either.

    • Someone got out on the wrong side of the bed this morning, great contribution to the thread. Majority knew exactly what the poster was referring to woth that description.

    • Well you can buy 2 pairs of Aerosports then.

  • +2

Nice I needed new shoes, grabbed 10 & 10.5 to see which fits better… ill do free returns on the ones that don't fit.

    • That's actually really smart, you get free delivery that way and free returns. I might edit the post to say it's possible to get free delivery that way..

I find with Nike I have to go up a full size.

      • How is it free delivery? I still paid $9.95 for delivery for 2 and one goes back…

        • If you spend $200+ it's free delivery. I think in the past it was $150 which was why I thought if you order 2 you can get free delivery.

  • Plus international transaction fee.

    • Unless your credit card has no international transaction fee.

      • Or unless you don't have a card like that.

        • International transaction fee, payment processed with Dublin and product shipped from Singapore via a 3rd party. Tax avoidance at its finest.

    Good for running ?

    • They're basketball shoes so not great.

  • What are these like for running?

  • +2

I think these are more for training/weighlifting than pure running.

I have the Nike Air Max Alpha TR 3 which seem to be an evolvement of these ones. They have a relatively flat base and good stability for squatting in the gym (when compared to my older Adidas Pureboosts which aren't great for heavy squats - but good for running).

  • +1

are these good for weight lifting?

    • +14

No, they only weigh around half a kg. Try something heavier.

      • +3

        Hahaha good one XD

    • I think you should like at their Metcon range.
They have just released the new Metcon 6 series.. so Metcon 5 deals may be coming up

      • I got me some Metcon 6… they’re great. Paired with some Varsity Competes, it’s a great combo for weights and Plyometric HIIT sessions

    • Do you even lift bro? ; ) TR always used to be the weights shoes.

I swear the forum members here get worse by the day. Some of these comments…

    • There are some bad people but I've been selling and buying on ozbargain, Facebook, eBay, and gumtree, and I gotta say ozbargain has the best polite members.

  • Any promo codes…just shopback/ cashrewards?

  • +3

Are these good for wearing in the pool?

  • cant really get myself to buy these mainstream brands anymore given i now know these cost less than $20 to make - rest is marketing and retail profits

    • +1

..but NBA players only get 20 gazillion dollars from Nike. Funny world we live in isn't it. Pay teachers, nurses, police, farmers etc not much … People who play with balls $$$$$$$

      • Then why don't we stop watching movies and games?

    • That's capitalism. You'll find the problem is that there's no one out there selling for small margins, if you buy a $40 pair of shoes you can bet that they cost less than $10 to make. If you buy from someone with a higher cost to make the shoe it's often not higher quality, they just don't have the streamlined supply chain that the big boys have.

Wesfarmers (Kmart, Bunnings, Target, Officeworks, mostly the first two) has a gross margin of 37%. Nike has a gross margin of 44% (then all that gets eaten up by head office and promotion, making a lower net profit than Wesfarmers). You'd think that the discount retailers, the "lowest prices guaranteed" would be scraping through on high sales, low margin, but they're not.

  • Ordered yesterday afternoon and woke to an email telling me that they can't fulfil my order. Kinda upset

  • So many people getting ripped in this thread. Good times.

  • im not suprised to see people wearing $30 sneakers around here. ha ha
