LG V30+ SMS Issue Send and Receive

In a matter of 24 hours, two LG V30+ mobiles purchased from the same store during the $399 same have stopped sending and receiving emails. I have taken the sims out and tested these in other phones, not a sim issue. I then moved my sim (Telstra Aus) into the V30 and only in the SMS app, it came up with the message No SIM.

This I thought might be a sim slot issue, moved it into the other slot closest to the outside. This worked for about an hour. Then the same issue occurred again. It has to be software, an update or a network change that has caused this. I did a network setting reset, have cleared cache for messaging app. SAFE MODE etc.

Very strange.

  • Depends where you are but in my town I got an SMS saying they are upgrading Telstra towers over the next week… So there may be some disruption

  • My SMS stopped working yesterday also on same phone! Just tried and still not working. Never been a problem in the past.

  • i just phone i got last year from JB at same price. thankfully i can still receive sms

  • Not looking forward to tomorrow, I remembered I recommended this phone for another person at work, audio fan and this phone delivers quite nicely. Saying that, SMS is quite important. The not so funny thing, Adelaide here, one of the people who own this phone is awaiting an SMS for COVID test results. Told her to move the sim to her old Microsoft Windows phone. Should get her out of trouble.

OP, download "Messages" app by Goggle LLC. Open the app, then try sending yourself a SMS from your older/default SMS app.

  • V30+ here too and had the exact same thing happen to me today with Optus. Partner has the exact same phone and network but still working fine. Very curious.

  • Has occurred on Vodafone and Telstra but I don't think its a courier thing. Unless they have changed something on their infrastructure which might be possible,

Thanks Peace Maker. I wasted 45 minutes this afternoon with Optus tech support due to my V30+ messages going down. With no luck. I thought it was an Optus problem.

I just downloaded the new Messages app and bingo…. Problem fixed.

Question is, Why was there no warning or promotion of the new message service standard from Google?

  • When you say sending and receiving emails do you mean sms?

    • Yes. That was correct.

Reddit people said uninstall app carrier services and restart your phone. Widespread issue https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/k6wcgp/lg…

  • Merged from Anyone having problems with their LG V30+ exactly 1 year later?

I bought an LG V30+ and my dad did too almost exactly a year ago and then he called me one day to say his SMS had stopped working and calls had started having issues. I did the usual family tech support and got him to restart etc and eventually he factory reset his phone which got things working for him again.

I brushed it off and didn't think about it until it started happening to me like a week later, in sync with when we both purchased it!

I did serious bug testing because I didn't want to factory reset, accessed memory partitions and cleared apps galore, but a factory reset was the only thing that got it working again was a factory reset!

For both of us though the reset only worked temporarily, and now the same issues are back.

I'm going to use an old phone I have lying around but just curious if this was a common experience and some planned obsolescence dodgy stuff by LG.

      Answer above. Install Google messages.

      • Thank you :)

  • I just tested. Can still receive messages on my V30+.

Funnily enough, my reno 5g is missing the occasional sms. Might be a carrier issue though

Also, Today 10/12 there was a Carrier Services Update…

So Check: Google Play / My apps & games / Updates

  • When staff are back in next week I will get them to test the update for Carrier services. Till then, have told them to keep it off. Removing this has fixed the sms send and receive issue. Thanks Pikaloo for your post.

The carrier service update solved it for me. All unreceived messages from the last day or two arrived at once.

Same for me thanks everyone, very easy just had to restart the phone though and the messages flooded in, feel for everyone that did factory resets etc!
