  • Gosh some great sub1k laptop deals lately. Wish I a) needed one and b) had more money. Or just b.

    In before complaints about nits.

Very interested, but I'm noop in computing and wondering what's better compared to Dell Vostro?

      Asus vs the Dell

      1. AMD R5 4500U is 6 core vs 4 Core Intel CPU. The 4500U will have better multi core performance for more applications.
      2. MX350 in the Asus faster than the MX330 in the Dell
      3. 8GB LPDDR4X RAM is faster and more power efficient in the Asus, than the DDR4 in the Dell.
      4. Dell doesn't state if the screen is 100% sRGB colour gamut, so I can assume that the screen is a lower quality panel
      5. The Dell only has a 220nit brightness, vs 300nit brightness of the Asus panel

There are more differences which I can mention if needed.

Much of a muchness. No real difference either way. Though personally, I'd find something with 16gb ram. Depending on your use case, but 16gb will last so much longer. I'm finding now with the huge reliance on teams and Zoom, 8gb just isn't cutting it now, especially if you want a laptop that will last you 5 odd years.

Obviously though, if it is for a facebook, email and netflix machine, this will do just fine.

    • Keep in mind the mx350 does not support Nvidia NVENC encoding.

While it is more powerful than the built in GPU in the 4500U, it isn't particularly powerful if you want something useful for 3D graphics

  • Great deal! Can we upgrade the RAM?

    • +1

Sorry RAM can be upgraded due to being LPDDR4X

      • +1

Sadly it kills the deal, why they include just 8gb with such a powerful CPU. Not that future proof.

        • +1

Unfortunately it's the limitation of using LPDDR4X. It is more power efficient and has more bandwidth than DDR4 but must be soldered.

  • What is the warranty? Is it local?

  • Being stuck 8GB RAM is a bit of a spoiler. But 1.15 kg.. Good school laptop.
8 GB will probably be fine for a while if you run some scripts to debloat Windows. At least it has dedicated VRAM.

It's been as lot as $730 AUD.. ergo, NO DEAL.

    • +2

      link please?

      • +1

I have not seen a Zenbook with a 4500U at $740 AUD, only the Vivobook with a 4300U has been $769 around Black Friday sales.

  • Just curious, how does it compare to this past deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/587522?fbclid=IwAR0yHt9dh7…

ux425ja is the newer model with thunderbolt 3 ports but no headphone jack
300 nits display with 100% sRGB, the chimei panel used is actually one of the best in this price bracket.

amazon AU had the ux425ea, the one with Ryzen 5 4500U, on special for $1050 on black friday.

  • I 'm waiting for an AMD 4xxx

    with 16GB of memory

at least a 500 GB SSD

    a decent graphics card

    a decent screen - 100% at least 300 nits

It's just annoying that they try and cheap out on one or more of these basic specs.

      Asus Zephyrus G14.

      • +1

        That's what I want .

But I want it for $1000

.Not desperate , but realistically should be able to get something similar for around $1500 mark . Just a matter of timing.

Lenovo has a Legion 5, there was a version with a good screen but it was over 2 1/2 grand on the retail site.( About $1800 on the education site.)

But I want it for $1000

          Keep dreaming mate.

          • @Merlict: I must be on the wrong site, thought I was on OZBARGAIN , not Oz Retail.
