  • How long are these on sale for? I'd like to come in-store and demo against a Sony XM3

    • +1

While stocks last. We ordered a large number of units so we should be able to keep this going for a few weeks (unless things really blow up!). Happy for you to come and demo against the Sonys. We also have the Sony WH1000XM4 and other models for comparison as well.

same price everywhere from months ….

at one point minidisc used to do deals but now one of the most expensive audio stores in Australia.

Thanks for the feedback. We believe that some retailers also offered a similar price around Black Friday. We think we are the only ones doing this price at the moment, and we still think it's a great deal :)

We haven't been able to offer many discounts this year mostly because of stock issues. As a small business we do not want to offer big discounts on orders we can't fulfil as this just causes disappointment and frustration for everyone. But we always try to be competitive, and if there is anything you have your eye on you are always welcome to shoot us a line and we will see what we can do.

Please link to these “same price everywhere” which currently selling for $249 Delivered.

I posted this Mwave deal for $249 and next closest price was $349 @ Store DJ / Manny’s.
After only a few days Mwave’s price went back up to $599.
Store DJ & Manny’s is still selling for $349 but that is $100 more than this Minidisc deal.

Maybe you are mistaking seeing it for $349 instead of $249, I have only seen it for $249 once before.
For something which was selling for $449 I think $249 is worth posting.

  • OP, how would you compare this against the XM4?

    • +3

In terms of sound, the XM4 is a warmer, thicker and bassier sound. The Beyerdynamic is more mildly "V-shaped", ie more emphasis on bass and treble, so it tends to sound cleaner and punchier. I personally prefer the sound of the Beyer but on some content the extra high frequency energy can be fatiguing. So if you listen to a lot of aggressive hip hop or electronic recordings the XM4 may be safer. You can EQ the XM4 to sound more like the Beyer but I don't think you can quite get there 100% because the Beyer still tends to sound clearer.

In terms of feature set, the XM4 is the newer headphone and does a famously great job with noise cancellation as well as some other extra quality of life features like pausing when you are speaking etc. Noise cancellation has improved on the Beyer with recent firmware updates but the Sony is market leading in ANC. The Beyer does support this neat app that lets you do a fairly long hearing test and then saves an EQ to the headphone based on the results, which can be really good with older users with high frequency hearing loss, etc. It is far more comprehensive than the 4/5 band EQ offered by the Sony but does not allow for user customisation.

In terms of comfort I would say the Sony is more comfortable as the earcups are larger and softer.

What app is that? This would be very useful you can save an EQ

        • +1

          This app here: https://global.beyerdynamic.com/mosayc

The EQ saves to the hardware itself though so it will only work with the Beyer models that support the app. As far as we know the app also doesn't produce a readout result that you can use to make custom EQs in other programs. You may need to go to an audiologist for that!

  • Do you guys have the same supplier as mwave? Seem to have stock at the same time.

How come the brown ones are never on sale?

    • +1

Yes! All authorised Beyerdynamic stock in Australia comes from our friends at Syntec https://www.syntec.com.au/

We are not sure why the brown ones rarely go on sale… something something Henry Ford

  • +1

I thought they had analog clocks on the sides…they even have the famous 10:10 time on display!

  • I would have preferred to buy from you guys if you posted same time or before the mwave deal. I like your store and customer service.

  • Damn $450 for the MMX 300 gaming headset. I should have jumped on the amazon/zip pay/shopback Black Friday deal and got them for <$300.

  • Only real issue with these is probably the older Bluetooth standard and lack of multi-point support.

    • The Lagoon uses Bluetooth 4.2 (aptX Low Latency, aptX, AAC) and supports multi-point connections.

  • would you recommend this if i had to use it for 8 hours a day? If not, what would be the best bet for anything 350 or less. Thanks

  • I just received the headphones ordered in the mwave deal. These are really good. Under represented headphones from an iconic brand that is not much popular among general public. Anyone who has plans of getting ANC headphones, get these flagships from Beyerdynamic

    • Apparently there is something called the MOSAYC App which can personalise the sound to you with a listening test.

But they may sound great straight out of the box already.

      • Will do the firmware update through the app. There is a sticker on the packaging mentioning that to get better active noise cancelling please install the app and do the update. The sound is pretty good out of the box. Mentioning of the codec being used is nice. General users may not appreciate it, but I would like to know it is using the best available codec without fiddling around with the developer tools in my phone.

          Yes always good idea.

The sound is pretty good out of the box.

Maybe good to be patient and appreciate it, then when you are familiar with the product you can try out the ‘extra’ feature (MOSAYC) doing this will be like having 2 headphones in 1.

Mentioning of the codec being used is nice.

Yes that is nice to have that information, it matters to some people.

      • The app didn't really help in my situation. I was hoping it would tame the 8-9k beyer treble but nah, just makes it louder. Ended up just eqing it down a notch like my other beyer headset.

I see thanks for sharing. Seems like they custom tune to BeyerDynamic house sound then.
Good information to know I guess.

          • @thebadmachine: Essentially they play white noise and a beep increases in volume in the background. You need to touch the screen and the beep volume reduces, release when you can't hear the beep. The beeping changes to different frequencies.

I did the test about 5 times, even tried to manipulate the higher frequencies. Mine kinda brought back the mids abit but didn't really trim the beyer treble.

I find there could be quite abit of user error and variance in this method. I would've preferred a 10band eq or even better a full fledged parametric eq.

        • Hope you have observed the hidden EQ in the MIY app. It is so easy to miss. I have set it to warm. The really good thing is (the minidisc guys mentioned this in the comments) The EQ saves to the hardware itself. So, the warm sound signature applies to any device you pair it to.

          • @usbc activist: This must be in the new firmware? Having the eq saved on the headset would be godsend.

I'm still on the fence about selling mine though, the cups are too small and get warm relatively fast.

            • @krisspy: May be a good idea to check for thicker sheep skin pads off aliexpress. Also the getting warm might be more to do with the weather?

              • @usbc activist: Could be aswell. I guess I'm just accustomed to the T1 with open back and velour pads.

Might be hard finding pads for this since the pads are attached to a plastic ring that clips on the headphone

These would be further 10% off if you use zip pay tap when buying from instore on Saturdays this month. $225, great price for any ANC headphone on the market.
Unfortunately Minidisc doesn't have a store in Melbourne :(
