Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 4G - Return or Keep?

I went to Telstra today to take advantage of a deal they have for the S7 Tablet 4g - $1049 + $15 dollars a month for 20gb data.

So expected cost over two years is is 1049/24, and 15 (my plan) X 24 - so all up should be 1400 or so dollars

Now I've gotten home what they have given me is -a device cost of 1350 plus 24 X 15 for a final price of a bit over 1700 dollars.

You can clearly see below that the advertised device cost is 1049 - this was also the price qouted in store to me. https://imgur.com/jNiWDm6

The device is still sealed, if I Wanted to pay $1350 I would have just bought outright from JB Hi-Fi.

Question is - should I bother trying to sort this with Telstra and getting a credit, or just return the device sealed?

  • Min cost $1,049 over 24 months plus your chosen plan costs

Don’t like it… try return it
Might be up for an early termination fee

The device cost is now 1350 - not the advertised 1049.

      • Plus your chosen plan costs.

  • +1

Yeah? Device cost plus the plan cost?

    • -2

No - to be clear the device cost is now 1350, not the advertised 1049, the plan is separate

      • Ok, your op was not very clear. Did you not query this with Telstra before signing up to the plan? If you aren't happy, take it back and tell them why I suppose.

  • Where is it clearly priced at $1049, price is $1349 on the link you provided?

  • Is there a monthly device credit to bring it down to $1049?

Min cost $1,049 over 24 months plus your chosen plan costs

Is still on the live link with repayments listed as $56,2*24 ($1350)

    • I went into the store - two sales reps basically talked me into the s7 with the 1049 device repayment, only when I got home did I realise the device repayment equals 1350.

Take it back and get a refund.

Return it and get an iPad Air.

    This is a grey area.
They also clearly mention $112.41/mth (12m) and $56.20/mth (24m). If you do the maths before purchasing, you would know it's not $1049.

Question is - should I bother trying to sort this with Telstra and getting a credit, or just return the device sealed?

Why are you asking us. Do you want the tablet or do you want your money back.

  • It's still accurate.

The minimum cost if you decide to cancel is $1,049, the cost of the device.

However with their lowest rated plan which it looks to be necessary it'll be $1,350. But its pretty clear in terms that it's 1,049 + plan costs. I don't really understand your post, you seem to even state yourself you wanted the tablet for 1,049 and added the 15 per month cost as well?

Maybe you're misunderstanding… its not 1350 + plan costs? You are still paying 1049 + the 15 per month you signed up for? Unless you're now paying 1650?

      $1348.80 + $15 p/m on a 24 month plan is $1708.80.

$1049 is a price error which OP can use to get out of the contract without paying an early exit fee.

      • Yeah exactly, thank you.

      • Yes it looks like a price error on Telstra's website. Min cost is $1349 over 24 months, not $1049 over 24 months like Telstra's website says.

I'd contact them and tell them that the min price stated was the wrong price, which is what you based your purchase on, and see what they can do about it. They should then realise their mistake and should fix it by honouring that advertised min price. But if they don't, then return the device for a full refund since you based your purchase on their wrong information, and buy the device from a retailer that doesn't bait with false min costs.

  • To be clear - I walk in interested in the s7+. I discussed my options with the sales person who mentions the 7 has a device repayment of 1049. So I go with that - during the sign up he repeats the minimum cost (IE handset repayment) is 1049.

I didn't twig that the handset repayment doesn't match the 1049 figure until I got home.

  • Mysterious. I would have been confused just like OP as well.

Similar calculation difference for the S7+ 5G too

    • $170.75/mth Min cost $1,699 over 12 months plus your chosen plan costs
    • $85.37/mth Min cost $1,699 over 24 months plus your chosen plan costs

But multiply the plan by the months give you $2,049.. which is $350 off.

Is it a black friday discount that they put back on in the monthly amount but not min repayment?

    • +1

Yeah - exactly. I didn't look at the prices online, I relied on what the sales people were telling me… I'm guessing you're right, the black friday prices weren't updated… I'm going to try for a credit.
