Men’s Clothing Brands

I am looking to standardise the wardrobe so I don’t have to think much while choosing clothes.

I intend to designate fixed brand for clothes - one brand for t shirts, one for casual shoes, one for jackets, one for formal shoes and so on.

Does anyone have the same preference? Can you share some good brands for each of the clothing and accessory items so I can build a decent and good looking medium-budget wardrobe.

  • I probably don't do this on purpose, but for shirts and tees, I just end up at Connor, but that's mostly because they fit me well YMMV.

I simplified my wardrobe a few years ago, not so much for single brands but fewer items that can be worn in many combos, like a white polo shirt works with shorts, pants and jeans so gives you 3 'outfits'.

I'd look at Uniqlo or RoddandGunn for polo shirts. They seem to hold their shape far longer, machine wash easily and a good range of colours. The Polo Ralph Lauren's have never lasted well for me, plus you look like an eshay.

    Uniqlo for shorts too.

Currently have the Target pants that went on sale for $15, only problem is one pair give me a Costanza issue

I hear UNIQLO is good for chinos as well, going by the comments here

    • I get that sound with Connor rain jackets.

My husband wears pretty much all uniqlo clothes (chinos, chino shorts, shirts, tshirts, underwear) with RM Williams and Bared shoes. We decided it's worth spending a bit extra on shoes for quality, longevity, comfort and to prevent feet issues.
I guess it really depends on your style and budget regarding jackets and shoes.

Over the years I settled on the following brands for each clothing category

    Boots - RM Williams ($$$$$)
    Sneakers - Common Projects ($$$$$)
    Jeans - Nudie Jeans ($$$)
    Suits - M.J. Bale ($$$)
    Underwear - Underarmour ($$$)
T-shirts, Polo shirts (Chad Polo), walking shorts, socks - AS Colour ($)
    Chinos - Uniqlo ($)

All brands extremely durable and all of it can be purchased locally in-store if you are in major city.

Jeans always navy blue and shorts/chinos always khaki.
All my casual tops are petrol blue, gray or navy blue so they go well with all my pants and shorts.
Never black. Except for socks - they are all back.

And here is how I decide what to wear…

Evening or cold weather - Jeans or chinos
    Otherwise - Walking shorts

If I wear pants, then it's boots and polo shirt. If I wear walking shorts, then it's sneakers/slides and t-shirt.

This system means there is no decision to be made what to wear.

    Hope it helps!

Damn. While some of that is not my style at all, I'm impressed by the system. I would love to have a simple, good looking 'zero thought' system.

Does anyone have the same preference?

No, whatevers on sale and fits well and looks good on the day

Take off coat hanger, put on, drive to work then look to see what I'm wearing… IM not a morning person

Uniqlo for me. Don't get my things anywhere else.

Uniqlo is good but I’ve started to notice some annoying shrinkage in the wash/their sizing isn’t quite consistent. Following this post regardless for tips

Academy brand - has both business casual + casual clothes.

I only wear gucci but that's because I can afford it. Not sure if you can

  • Thats a weird way to go about things. For casual shoes i mix it up between classic white converse chuck taylor, black vans old skool, white adidas stan smiths or shelltoes. Gotta have some variety, would get boring wearing the same branded shoe over and over again.

  • Pretty much got all my clothes and shoes and socks from popular ozb deals nowadays.

Tm lewin, CT, Slazenger, Adidas, cotton on, target, bonds…

  • short sleeve collared white top, blue pants and dark grey shoes.

if homer can rock the same outfit for 31 years and still remain popular, i'm sure you can too.

  • Einstein did exactly that. You need to colour coordinate everything as BLACK. You simply walk into your wardrobe and each for black trousers, sock, shoes, shirt, jacket, and tie.
Next, don't cut your hair, then maybe wash once every week or so.

  • I like 'Rodd and Gunn'. good quality.

    Sounds bland af

  • I'm tall and skinny - Jack London is perfect. Particularly if you like eye-catching colours and designs… Paisley is a big hit.

Regular and great value sales too. Don't buy retail price.
