Disappointed Dealing with Dell - Cop It Sweet or Cancel Order?

A couple of months back I ordered a monitor from Dell. It was the first time ever I have dealt with Dell.

On order tracking the "Production Date" was constantly being pushed out. Then, last Friday, I received notification that the order "production" would now be delayed until late March 2021, meaning I suppose actual delivery will be April 2021 or later.

All a bit grim for a monitor I needed back in mid October.

I'm in two minds about cancelling the order, mainly because of the posts I've seen here and elsewhere about the PITA it is trying to cancel an order with Dell. Given all the other shit that's happened this year I'm not sure my head can handle more stress.

Can Dell actually be trusted to deliver after the constant delays?

Any thoughts or advice?

PS the amount involved is $280, and I have purchased another monitor from an ebay seller to fill the gap.

I've always had really good experiences with Dell. That's too long to wait, so I'd cancel. I don't think you'll have a problem with them.

    • Yeah bugger that wait time. Dell have been great to me, but that was long ago.

Cancel the order and move on with life..

      Do you work for dell?

We need a costly and lengthy class action lawsuit

      OP has been violated

That could be the title of 90% of the forum posts!

  • i have only ordered through dell once, it was an Alienware monitor
we didn't get an explanation as to why it happened but we were glad it did, basically, they sold a run of monitor's at a great price and we ozbargin'd the shyt out of them
a few of us got a free upgrade to the next monitor up the sale price for the base monitor was i think $1050 and they gave a few of us the new one listed at $2500 for free

so you never know your luck. but if you need it right now, waiting that long is a kick in the teets

I found a Dell monitor on throw out day in Brissys and it didn't work. Lmao, dell accepted it as a return and sent me a NEW one. Haahaa

I had a similar experience with a monitor I bought last year - took forever and they kept periodically advising it had been delayed. I eventually got it, but I won’t be buying direct from them ever again.

Were you planning on buying a second monitor?

No, then why not cancel the order?

    R U OK?

  • Same thing happened to me but i ordered november 26th. What a joke.

Definitely cancel. Boxing day sales will net you a better deal.

  • But are you allowed to cancel if it says 'in production'?

That's the question for Fair Trading maybe.

But a six months delay probably takes the argument into "unreasonable contract" territory.

Anyway, I'll attempt the cancel for a full refund tomorrow & will report back.

Another day of Vesta situations. (Some may remember what that means)

      • Ask Dell for an in stock model.

8.4 You may cancel an order for Products purchased under a Consumer Contract or a Small Business Contract if Dell is unable to deliver the Products within a reasonable period from the estimated delivery date specified on the Order Confirmation.

        From dell terms of sale

        • What is a reasonable period?

      • Wellllll…. this is fun….

Passed along to FOUR different "Customer Support Team Members"

Each time had to repeat the order number.

Then I get "Reception", who tells me "Customer Support Team Members" are very busy. Repeat order number.

Now I have a promise of "A customer support team member will call me back.

        Stay tuned……

I ordered something from Dell the start of COVID, date blew out until November, I cancelled and they refunded straight away.

Sounds like you’re stressing yourself about what could go wrong before it even has. However if they are a PITA and don’t refund you’re still in the same boat as if you don’t try cancel at all, so what do you have to lose?

    • Yup. I always expect the worst. (see post above, it's shaping up that way).

Same reason I like toshop at ALDI- I enter the store with no expectations. I am never disappointed. ;-)

      • It took:
        6 phone calls
each time from one "Customer Service Team" member to another and then back to "Reception"
in two sequences the call disconnected mid conversation.
Also received an email (late Monday). I responded, No reply.
Called again just now. Got "Reception" and requested "unhappy" customer support.
Connected immediately, 2 minutes and done. Got a promise of a full refund within 48 hours.

In the end, well done, but why not like this at the start?

        Cheers

  • I had the same issue with the black Friday sale deals my laptop order (5 laptops) have been delayed to March as well

  • Just have one comment, Dell, they've lost their way, I hope they come back they were good back in the day (early to mid-2000s)

Bought the 38" monitor 2 weeks ago, received 5 revised shipment dates so far and now they say it will be shipped in Jan 21. Their "customer care" team promised it will be next week and then ends up being next year. Trying to cancel, will never buy from dell again. SMH
