Wall mounted TV power and HDMI Inputs

Hopefully there is an electrician out there that can provide some clarity on the legality of running power cables through wall cavities for when wall mounting a TV.

This picture is the situation that i am looking to achieve on the wall mount with my sonos arc included in the setup as well. Also want HDMI point at the floor level for PS4 that will go in tv cabinet.

I currently have power and antenna point at ground level. I will need power, 2 x HDMI and an antenna point at TV level, power and 1 x HDMI at soundbar level, and then power and 1 x HDMI at ground level.

Obviously best solution is to get an electrician to come install all this, but I imagine this would be quite costly, and would prefer to DIY it providing it is safe and legal. The Cable Clear system looks really good and i can just get two systems and run one from the behind TV to floor and another from soundbar to the floor. I am unsure of the legality of this system though having power cables running into wall cavities.

AS3000 states the following but im not sure exactly how this comes into things:

3.10 ENCLOSURE OF CABLES
3.10.1 General
3.10.1.1 Insulated, unsheathed cables
Insulated, unsheathed cables shall be enclosed in a wiring enclosure
throughout their entire length.
Exceptions: Wiring enclosures need not be provided for insulated,
unsheathed cables installed as follows:
1 As aerial conductors, in accordance with Clause 3.12.
2 In an enclosed wall cavity between an accessory and a wiring
enclosure or sheathing terminated within 100 mm of the hole over or
within which the accessory is mounted.

  • just use Cable Management Cover, cheap and legal.

  • Cause you’re not supposed to be wiring it yourself

    • Otherwise I’d loop from the lower power point

  • Just get the electrician to add new PowerPoints and they can install the duct for all the other cabling. Such a simple job won't cost heaps.

    • Yeh i guess thats the question too - do i get one power point at the tv and then another one at the soundbar height? Or do i just try and mount the soundbar as close to the bottom of the tv as possible?

      • I’d personally get a power source at the soundbar height. Or run the power cable down

You will not want to see a cable between the soundbar and the tv, so you would have to do it flush if there power point is at tv height. Personally I don’t think this look as nice

      • I actually just installed a TV and soundbar last week, the soundbar is mounted on brackets which hang off the bottom of the TV.

  • I recently had a tv wall mounted and went through a similar process. All the tv installers I spoke to mentioned the cables can be run through the wall without any conduit as long as the power cable plugs directly into the tv and into the power point at ground level (i.e. no extension cords). I told the installer I was thinking of using the Bunnings cable management product and he said it’s not required, and apparently very difficult to use in an insulated wall.
