[NSW] Please Recommend Me a Good Solar Remover/Reinstaller and a Good Roofer

Good day fellow OzBargainers. Grateful for your experience and expertise!

Been having some water leaks from our roof. Most roofers say that our solar panels may be contributing to this.

While some roofers have provided quotes, others will not do so until the solar panels are removed so they can identify the source(s) of leaks.

Regardless, most roofers will not perform the actual repair until the panels are removed.

Contacted a few solar suppliers. Most are not interested in the removal unless we buy new panels/system from them.

We don't want or need to spend money in new panels/system, as the roofers' quotes for non-recurring solutions are already going to send us broke.

We also realised that many electricians are not licenced to deal with solar.

So, it all comes down to us looking for:
* a reputable and licenced roofer who will only suggest and do what is needed, without ripping us off; and
* a reputable and licenced solar panel removalist and reinstaller who will do the work, without upselling or re-introduce roof leakage problems post-fix by the roofer.

I am located in the Parramatta LGA.

Thank you very much in advance for your help - much appreciated!

Get a screwdriver out, panels can easily be removed manually :/

  • maybe try one of the airtasker etc ones- with good reviews

Have you wet the roof with your normal hose with you up in the roof (or your son) just to see where the leak is. Might be just a $10 fix and a couple of crappy hours on a Saturday.

    • Or just wait until it rains next time! Definitely worth doing though, and see where it is coming from/how bad it is, could just be the cost of some silicon and a very quick easy job to do yourself.

  • Just curious, why wait till it rains, more damage is done. Put a hose on the roof yourself while you can.

DIY with power on the roof, not a great idea. If you go down this path please isolate the panels using the isolators on the roof and near the inverter, shut down mains too.

  • There's a huge variance with roofers
    Cheapest <> Best
A lot of the shonky ones don't use harnesses or really care about the quality of the job.

What construction materials is the roof made of, and is the job simply to fix the leak.
    Solar installers have a huge range too;

    Best of luck.
