[SW Sydney] Best Place to Get RAM and NVMe SSD Installed

Hi All,

Recently bought the Acer Nitro 5 $996 deal and am wanting to upgrade the spare slots with 1x8gb RAM and 1xNVME SSD. I checked DCOMP and they quoted 100 bucks for labour, considering the youtube videos show in real time people installing this in like 10 mins, the price is ridiculous haha.

Wondering if anyone has a place recommended in South West Sydney that can help with this for a reasonable price (I can buy parts myself or even just buy parts from the shop if they have it).

I was going to give Mwave / Scorptec a call but they seem to have customer service dialled back at the moment to deal with the busy period trade.

I don't have the tools for it nor do I have the patience to do something like this (pealing the bottom panel off).

Also, I bought the laptop as it was on sale and I was salary a sacrificing, so got it for ~650 bucks (before people roast me for getting a gaming laptop and not PC haha) - I am a Console Gamer, this was just because I needed a laptop and to run Warzone with better FOV + laptop for use at home.

Thanks in advance.

Don't you have a screwdriver? That's all you need.

    • I do, but not that spudge thing to get the back panel off and I am not confident enough to tackle it myself (I have watched videos though).

      • That's just a guitar pick.

        • or that triangle thing from those mobile phone repair tool kits, see if any of your friends have one.

Honestly save yourself the hassle and do it yourself.
2 of the easiest things in a computer to replace. I started out on ram, moved over to changing out hard drives and recently replaced the entire motherboard on my laptop.

Youtube, a screwdriver and some time is all you need.

Doing this yourself will provide you a set of (albeit low-level) skills that will better serve you in the future should you decide to embark on putting together a PC on your own.

Popping a panel off a PC case shouldn't require too much effort and shouldn't affect other components inside (unless a fan cable is connected between them.

The RAM is just a quick slot-tab flick away, and the nvme just needs a tiny screwdriver to secure (You'll need to reinstall windows if it's going to be your OS drive).

Make sure you ground yourself by touching a metal object before handling sensitive pc equipment to minimise the risk of static shock ruining the silicon.

    Good luck!

Thanks guys, I think I might just take your advice and try it myself. The videos on youtube on this model are quite easy to follow, was just worried about taking the panel off on a new laptop.

    • one thing you might want to double check is whether such DIY upgrades might affect warranty.

      • Well it does say upgradeable but I bet it does void warranty, I am not too fussed about it though.

    Good luck mate.

I'm not very computer minded and I managed to change my RAM yesterday! Super easy!

    • Thanks mate, ordered a SODIMM 8GB 3200mhz RAM and a NVMe 500gb SSD from Scorptec last night express shipping, hopefully here in next two days, I am excited haha.

Nice mate! Just watch a few youtube videos and give it a crack! The first boot took longer than usual on a black screen and I definitely panicked a little, but I think the computer was just a bit surprised at the new RAM.

I did it today man, the panel itself was the hardest thing to pop off but the NVME and the RAM Install was just like in the videos. Was quite nervous at first. Boot up took a bit longer than usual too but after detecting the drive and mapping it, it was fine from them on. COD Warzone runs at like +100% FPS with consistency now thanks to the additional of another 8gb RAM.

Cheers for the encouragement and saved some labour $$ too!
