Supercheap Price Guarantee

I have just noticed supercheap have a price beat guarantee I am not sure if this is new, but I have never noticed it before.

I went digging through their T&Cs to see if it was similar to Bunnings "we will beat it by x%".

but stumbled across this little nugget.
14.2.2. You acknowledge that we are not required or obliged to match any prices for any Products, including matching any prices for a Product that is available through the Site at our store or vice versa.

So they are only going to honor their price beat sometimes? Is that even legal?

  • Don't think there is a law on price beat (PB) or price match (PM) - it's their own rules.

Seems to be at retailer's discretion… you'll hear (and I've experienced) HN, Myer won't go below "cost" price and probably a few others too.

Take your business somewhere else, best way to teach them if they don't PM.

I don't think there is specifically, but the ACCC might have something to say about it if it's blatant BSA. It comes down to the overall impression and the little asterix can't be used as a get-out-of-jail-free card. OP has pointed out 14.2.2 that directly contradicts the "Supercheap Price Guarantee".

It would be very interesting what would come out of it if someone reported it.

I've used their pricematch once and they were quite good. They

      • yeah, fair enough - IANAL. Personally, I see it as a bonus if a shop is willing to offer a PM or PB and happens to be in-stock and more convenient than travelling further to get the lower price.

Maybe OP can take it on and let OzB community know. ;)

  • +1

    Sounds about right.

Any T&C worth it's salt has a get out of jail free card

It’s not new, it’s been around for a longtime.

To me sounds like instore don't have to their online store prices and vice versa.

    Not illegal.

  • This guarantee has been around a few years at least. I tried to use it but they only matched the price rather than beating it. Seeing this now makes me think it is an escape clause which they can use at their whim.

  • The cashback scheme they have going is pretty awesome. I went in and bought some painting tools and supplies at full price.
Next time I had $80 credit because they’d gone on sale a few days later.

  • I bought a product from them recently and they only price matched. I just went online to purchase another product and spoke to their online person, and they also only gave me a price match. I mentioned to them it should be a price beat. And so they did… Beat the other price by 62c on a $112 product…. Took about 45 mins to get to this stage and they email a voucher through which takes 48hrs… If it wasn't for a physical store I can return stuff easily too, and I had a supercheap voucher I wanted to use up… why bother… go elsewhere if cheaper.
