  • Does anyone know if samsung are any good?

  • If you google S630 review, there's plenty around.

This is a good summary: "The S630 delivers a decent requirement for the market it is aimed at. The picture and build quality are fair for day to day picture taking. The camera will not win any awards, but I don't think that Samsung were trying to. The design and features are reminiscent of the old Coolpix range by Nikon from a few years ago. The design was proven as it was a popular range, so Samsung have chosen a safe option with the ergonomics.

It's a useful camera to slip in your pocket on a day out and at the price, it won't matter too much if anything happens to it."

  • Ah, these cameras. At work I think we sold 35+ in a couple of days because we were doing them for $99 down from $149.

Honestly, they're not that bad. Basic camera with basic features. Great for a present for a teen who doesn't have a camera and can't be trusted with something worth much more than $75.

You get 2xAA batteries in the box which will probably die after about 10 shots. Get one of these and pair it with some rechargeable NiMHs and you'll be set.

I've seen the photos that have come out from these and they're not too bad. But then again a lot of camera phones these days are "not too bad" either.

Perfect as a gift or as a second camera for the teens/kids to play with. Takes SD cards which are as cheap as chips (pun not intended). $9 for 1GB seems to be the going rate.

Are Samsung any good? They're absolutely fine. Reliability is not an issue with these, over the hundreds we sold I can only recall 1 coming back and we swapped it for another working unit immediately.
