20% off Smart Alarm Panels (Free International Shipping with US$149 Spend) @ Konnected

90

20% off Konnected Smart Alarm panels with free international shipping today.

For anyone with an old wired, dumb alarm system, the Konnected alarm panels seem to be a great way to switch them over to smart panels and either have a smart (not-internet or subscription dependant) alarm, or just a series of additional sensors around your (smart) home. It claims good integration with Home Assistant (why I bought it) and other open source home automation systems. I've not used one, but have been wanting one for a while and the sale + free shipping tipped me over the edge.

Free international shipping saved me $23.75 USD to Canberra.

20% sale ends on 2 Jan 2021, free international shipping ends 15 Dec 2020 (noting it's an American store/timezone).

    Attention interested:
    * You can use any generic NodeMCU or Wemos board (diy)
    * ESPHome also provides similar function.

Not rubbishing this but there's cheaper options or more customisable.

It's a great project that's worth supporting but MUCH cheaper to DIY. https://github.com/nodemcu/nodemcu-firmware

I have been running on ESP8266 for 6 months now without any issues.

      • I gave up on it because I had some firmware issues (maybe due to a bad something) but I wasn't able to diagnose it as easily as ESPHome

      • Oops was supposed to post this link: https://github.com/konnected-io/konnected-security

ESPHome is definitely more flexible. I'll start playing with it soon with spare modules I have lying around.

      • How do you interface it with the existing alarm sensors?

          • @OzJunkGain: Thanks - looks like their interface boards are still the go to keep an existing alarm operational.

            • @gadget: From what I can see their boards are pretty much identical but with a different layout.

In any case, keeping an existing alarm is not the recommended use case so you need to get a little creative there.

              • @OzJunkGain: That's why they have now the interface kit, right? So we could probably just get the interface boards alone and custom wire them to the nodemcus. I guess the interface could be built but probably easier to just get their boards.

                • @gadget: Yeah I think you're right. I haven't played with one but the interface boards do look like a pretty neat solution.

    • I was looking at these but ended up buying a NodeMCU and base from Aliexpress, which cost about $10 and have put the Konnected firmware on it.

Now I have the 4 wired PIR from our alarm system as sensors in Home Assistant. Working well so far.

      • Are you running the NodeMCU as a full alarm replacement or as an interface and keeping the existing alarm? If the latter how are you interfacing it?

        • Replacing the old alarm which we never used. It is only a small system with no external siren anyway. I thought this way was cheaper than getting new wireless sensors

    • This is what I come to OzBargain for, the deal is OK, but the alternatives are move valuable than the deal sometimes!
      Cheers @mitchins

  • edit: resolved issue. Thanks

  • was about to purchase the USD $79 kit but didn't qualify for free shipping (need to spend USD $149). Will definitely look into ESPHome / NodeMCU now that I'm excited about upcycling my old home alarm. Thanks mitchins.

  • OP is the free shipping via USPS?

    • It didn't say from memory, however their website says:

We have shipping arrangements with USPS, UPS and DHL. USPS shipments are most economical, and are delivered to your country's local post office for delivery. UPS and DHL are both private carriers with faster service but also higher costs.

      https://help.konnected.io/support/solutions/articles/3200002…

So USPS seems like a reasonable bet. Is that good or bad?

      • I had something shipped via USPS first class In July. Tracking shows it got stuck in LA for over 2 months, although it eventually turned up.

  • Can anyone clarify if this prototype kit is all I'd need to get it setup with Smartthings to monitor only?
    https://konnected.io/products/konnected-diy-prototyping-kit

Would I need to flash it myself? Or would the software be preinstalled?
