  I can't work how you could possibly build anything without a diagram, that's what's lacking with this book :(

  I'm only a few pages in and realise that I have made a big mistake. This book is awful. Clearly nobody proof read it before publication. Don't waste your money unless you're looking a for a laugh at how bad it is or want to give someone a rubbish Christmas present.

  Poorly written and left to your own devices has how to construct some of the projects really disappointed and my opinion not worth the money

  Anyone with woodworking skills, can you recommend how I can get started? There are a lot of resources on the Internet but it's overwhelming. I'm not aiming to become a carpenter but some skills would be nice.

    If you're a complete beginner I'd suggest start with Rex Krueger on the YouTubes.
    I think he calls his beginner series 'woodworking for humans' or something stupid like that but it's great. Your equipment list is with three simple tools and the first lesson is how to make the fourth tool.

    At some point he'll guide you through making a workbench, because you'll eventually need one.

    Steve Ramsey is also good, and Matt Eastlea.

    as someone who spent their covid year attempting to set up a wood workshop in the garage, here is the biggest lesson i've learnt - do not skimp on purchasing measuring tools. like with all tools you don't have to buy the most expensive, but cheap shitty measuring tools will give you more headaches than you can imagine - i couldn't cut a straight line or square a corner for the longest time until i worked out that my plunge saw rail was not straight but a rainbow shape (scheppach manufacturing fault), and the try square i'd been using measured 92 degrees instead of 90… which adds up to a lot of error over a big sheet.

    the ones i use the most are:
    - a small engineers square, for checking the square on all my hand cuts and machine cuts (https://www.timbecon.com.au/fastcap-magnetic-micro-engineer-…)
    - and this empire 15cm combination square from bunnings (https://www.bunnings.com.au/empire-150mm-true-blue-combinati…)

    everything else i just youtube or google

    Yes, I watched a lot of his videos (I'm a total beginner). Some good hints there.

    I particularly liked the ones about using SketchUp - and I used it to build a mobile tool cart and a home gym.

    However, the main problem for me is that he uses a table saw for most of his projects, and I'll never get one of those.

      You're in the same boat as me, I've decided not to get a table saw either. Depends what stuff you want to make. I found Peter Millard's channel very useful. He makes lots of cabinets/bookshelves etc. Very small workshop so he doesn't use a table saw.
