To download a game:
1. Select a game and click "buy now"
2. Sign up or log in to Big Fish account
3. Unselect "Big Fish Game Club Free Trial (to remove billing) and apply coupon code
4. Download free game (This will automatically install the Big Fish Game Manager)

No billing info is required. You can delete the Big Fish Game Manager once you've finished downloading because the game files are downloaded onto your PC. The Manager will be reinstalled each time you download a game.

And I finally figured out where the codes come from! They send you a code instead of wasting their time resolving any issues. See the following excerpt from an reply email to an help request I made:
