  • Ordered 24/12. Received 8/1/21 so pretty good shipping considering the season.
Using standard international firmware 3.0.16 (latest version was already on device) the performance is great. Getting full 250 mbps NBN speed in most areas via 5 GHz and gigabit lan speed on wired. With this I’ll just wait for OpenWRT.

  • Is it just me or is this router missing even basic features like the entire web browser settings, router.miwifi.com doesn't load after initial setup and the app is missing everything but really really basic settings not even port forwarding options. old free routers from isp's have more settings than this thing.

Mi Wifi App doesn't even look the same as the pictures on google play where it shows 4 buttons on the bottom row mine only has Mi Router and Toolbox.

This router has stopped my Plex remote access from working outside my local network, and Gaming my nat type is now moderate.

    • router.miwifi.com works for me to get to the browser web interface, on both wifi and lan. Failing that, just use the ip address of the router.

For gaming, don't you need to enable uPnP? By default, it's disabled. Log in to the web interface and go to Advanced -> Additional. Porting forwarding is under Advanced -> Port forwarding

      • Thanks, i got it all working now, had to access using the router ip, weird that the url they give doesn't work at all apart from initial setup.

    • Login to router's IP
Port forwarding and UPnP is under advanced.

  • Hey guys!

A couple of questions that I am kind of stuck on. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Has anyone gotten the Mi WiFi iOS app to work? I am always stuck at detecting router. Currently using Chinese firmware.

    2. Is there a way to enable WAN bypass on this router so that it just becomes a switch with AX WiFi?

  • Just received mine. Week signal, what a useless router.

    • Yup unfortunate the global model is like that out of the box. It's because they based it on Euro standards. If you have technical know how you can get around it by updating the region in the firmware https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9842117/redir

Otherwise downgrade to the Chinese firmware and bumble your way around, but as far as I know it doesn't have mesh support if you need that.

      • Pretty great router once you get SSH access and full power out of it

      • but as far as I know it doesn't have mesh support if you need that

I am a bit confused by this statement. Do you mean if you downgrade the global AX3600 model to the Chinese firmware, you lose mesh support after downgrading?

      • Downgrade to Chinese Firmware, signal does improve. But might just a inch better than my free belong router. The blind point remain blind. No big improve on the coverage, but I notice the connection is stable when signal is good.

  • Just out of curiosity, does anyone know when the global model of the AX3600 was released into market last year? Was it Oct / Nov 2020?

  • Wanting to find out if any of you have suggestions. I've had the AX3600 for about a month now and setup was pretty straight forward and connected using my MiWifi app on phone and tablet.

I've rebooted a few times for some tests and finally cabling it up to its final permanent location and really no issues encountered.

The other day, we had a power failure in our street and expecting everything to come back as normal when power was restored. As expected network came back online and appeared to have no issues when power came back on. Only thing is now my app connects the AX3600 and is saying OFFLINE

I've tried to unpair and repair the router, it appears to be connecting but is unable to display any data to the app.

I've tried to install the app on another device and after logon the router is displayed in the app but is unable to display any data such as network traffic and connected devices and the router is being displayed as offline.

I am able to logon to the router using a browser and manage all the functionality except changing QoS values for each device which is what I am really after. The XBOX is a hog sometimes.

    • Have you tried factory resetting it?

      • Hi,

yup a couple of times, the app will find the router and able to add the router. As soon as it is added the router is displayed in the app but then will display offline saying can't connect to router.

I've even tried signing up to a new Mi account but the same thing.

        • I'm on firmware version Global 3.0.22 and so far had no issues with the mi app (on a Samsung Note 9). What firmware version are you on?

    • I have the same problem. Router says offline. I think this router is bugged.
      Any fix would be great.

    • Same problem and it's very annoying. I want to connect my Air Con's wifi module through WPS but unable to without the app. Is there an option to pair using WPS using the router's web link? I can't find it. Any input would be appreciated.

      • I don't have any WPS devices to try it out but using the Mi WiFi app, the + button on the top right of main screen has an option called "Connect WPS devices".
edit - I see what you're saying, your app doesn't work

    • OK guys, I tried different things and finally got it to work. Had to pair the Air Con unit badly so I made it.

Factory reset the router using the router web page. When setting up again, choose a Country (I chose Germany). Then in the mobile app as well change the timezone to match Germany. Pair the router and it should show all the connected devices. It worked for me so let me know how you go.

  • In general so apart from the app issues. The device is the cheapest wifi 6 device with decent performance? It currently retailing about $128 from AliExpress

    • Amazing signal and stability once you change firmware, get SSH access and full wifi power draw. Also edited the /etc/hosts file to make sure it's not phoning home. I've never bothered with the app, not sure what I'd need it for, access through web browser is good enough.

      • In theory you should be able to buy the Chinese version and update it to the global firmware and get full wifi power. You will just have to muddle through the Chinese text until you get it updated, just use Google translate on your phone using the camera. I found I had to set my region to Great Britain when doing the initial setup to get full power as well, setting Australia restricted the power level.

The global version is for the EU market which has a low power wifi signal. Also I find the EU power plug sux for plugging into plug adapters, chinese plugs fit better.

        • Are you saying the global version will never be as powerful as the Chinese version even after rooting?

          • @badarz: No, I'm saying that in theory you don't need to root the Chinese version as the bdata country code should be CN already.

  • +1

    Hey guys!

Xiaomi has now released the WiFi6e version of this router named AX6000.
Once again, this is the Chinese version with no plans for a global version just yet.

    • Looks like it doesn't have a 6ghz radio. Its more like wifi6 plus.

      • This is probably why they are calling it "WiFi6 enhanced version" … very cheeky!

  • checked the app this morning, it suddenly started working again. unpaired the router and paired it back with my normal Mi Account and still works.. I didn't really do anything to try to fix it as I've given up and am just checking to see if there is a new firmware released for a fix. Basically it is now fixed on the same firmware and app version. Strange

    • Just out of curiosity, do you have the Chinese or the Global version?
Also, have you rooted it (i.e. get ssh access, etc.)?

    • Yes, my mi app also works now. I think the mi server had an issue.
