  • Is this a good price

No! The CPU is technically two generations behind. The GPU can be found in laptops that are below $2000, when on sale. Everything else are pretty standard features.

      • Yeah if it was the AMD version then it would be insane value.

      • Can probably get 25% off using a student email. Would bring it to $2050. Still not worth ay?

        • it is 25% off right now

      • what an ACER ? lol
Anyway, a Dell, with a 10th Gen Intel with all the same specs, is about $3500

so , if you can find better, feel free to share

      • RTX 2070 laptop less than $2k AUD in Australia!
Please tell me where, have been looking for one for my brother for weeks now and can't find it

        • This Asus is in JB's boxing day sale catalogue at $1998:

@mandelbrot: oh I was expecting closer to $1500, the way he mentioned it.
but thanks for that, will look into it

            • @michael9865: Plus $100 cashback from Asus. Can also reduce the price with 5% discount gift cards… Brings it to about $1800.

        • Is this a good deal? The Asus

        • I got the Dell G7 17" 2070 MaxQ with 144Hz with i7 10th gen for around $1800 one year ago on Dell eBay store.

          • @congo: The G7 has been down to that price a few times recently. I'd say the Asus is a better machine due to 240MHz screen and having the non-MaxQ 2070 variant, which performs 15-20% better. Plus the thermal issues on the Dells are a killer.

            • @mandelbrot: Yes, I have given the G7 to my wife. She likes the big screen.

I am waiting on the "ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 15.6" 240Hz R9 4900H 2060 MaxQ" (GA502IV-AZ035T) to go on sale…it is currently around $2500 which is similar price to Asus ROG Strix G512.

I hear the 4900 kills the i7-10750H, but you lose the 2070 for 2060 MaxQ instead.

    • Not really. Have the HP15-dc1039tx [Runs 2070 Q-max], some other minor difference. Bought it 12 months ago [Jan 2nd, 2020] for $2015 from Centrecom, was a good price at the time. This is using basically the same platform.

The older gen HP Omen, especially in 15" run HOT. I mean like can not be on lap without discomfort, in fact it can not be used on your lap for more than about 10 minutes.
And then when you use it for gaming, it cooks, regularly saw CPU >97C! It needs a dedicated laptop fan cooler + vacuum fans [I use Klim base + 2xOpular units] and using external keyboard/mouse as it's too hot to type on a regular basis. The newer 10th Intel HP Omen's allow for underclocking via the Omen interface, this helps deal with the heat issues to some extent. Can't do that on 9th Gen processors though.
Also HP Omen's don't play well when you run external video via Thunderbolt3 into DP monitors. Have work around, but wouldn't knowingly do it again.

So by the time you sunk costs into all of these items, there are MUCH better units on the market which can actually be used as laptop. If after a desktop replacement, maybe…. but again I don't see the value. It may tick all your boxes, [and at the time, this did & kinda still does as I had a specific purpose] but suggest looking elsewhere first that this unit.
