  This won't be as good as something with aciclovir in it - Zovirax or even the generic aciclovir creams are generally the best you can get. The Betadine one won't work as quickly.

  Alternately, talk to your pharmacy\doctor about famciclovir tablets. I find if I take it at the right time before a coldsore appears I can avoid it entirely, or if I'm a little late with it, its presence is shortened down to a couple of days. (It's a very narrow window you have to take it though, literal hours)
