First thing, call the 24 hour number for your bank and place a hold on the card that was used.

    • paypal was used with debit card..
I can call paypal to get it refunded but my nintendo account will be banned? or closed.

So which is more important, keep the account open or pay the 400aud.

It’s not fair, but robbery never is. Solve the best you can. Unless the hacker decides you are a nice guy and returns the money. Which is doubtful.

Sorry you’ve been hacked, and it’s not nice.

        • paypal failed…

          • @Rukiata: To be fair, Paypal are kinda assholes about this stuff, someone bought Pokemon cards with my mum's paypal and we jumped on it in less than half an hour after the transaction was made, Paypal held the transaction for several days, but then let it through anyway (we already rang the bank first thing in the morning since this was done just before midnight). But that Paypal was linked to a credit card so we had the bank do a charge back, Paypal was not happy, but f*** them, they did the wrong thing.

This is why I advocate that everyone uses complex passwords and 2FA like Authy on their accounts, makes it alot harder to hack the account (the credit card helps as a last resort). You may want to look at changing your E-mail account password as well, as that could have been one way they got access to your account (especially if it's a simple password). I have never been hacked on any account using 2FA like Authy (Instagram was such a pain before this was an option, because I kept getting hacked even with more complicated passwords), I'm so happy PSN recently added this as an option (it should have been an option years ago).

First of all are you the only user of this Nintendo account or do you have kids playing Fortnite on a switch or have you sold any Nintendo gear recently and perhaps forgot to remove account info?

    • Nope, its only me.

Nintendo NNID's were hacked last April. It's not of the OP's doing.

      • +2

The hack in April has already been fixed.

Nintendo said it no longer allows NNID logins on the Switch.
Beyond sending an email to the account associated with your Nintendo Account, Nintendo is alerting affected users by forcing a password reset.

This is either a new hack or a user failing to secure their passphrase.

  • Wouldn't they have had to have your Nintendo password as well as PayPal password? They went to all that effort and only for $275 Nintendo dollars?

    • paypal was linked on my nintendo account.
      I unlinked it.

      • Fair enough. Then wait until they can investigate, or claim with PayPal as above.

        • opened Unauthorised access, i dont trust nintendo and their support.

        • well paypal failed.. read above

Happened to me before. Bloody Nintendo

    • they banned your account? did you get it unbanned?

It seems to me you seem to have your priorities wrong… Your concern should be with the money and theft than the 'nintendo' account..

        YMMV.

        • ummmmm account is old and has money spent on it maybe? idk maybe dlc and games already which I will lose as well

@Rukiata: Another reason why I always recommend physical over digital.
I guess you could try messaging Nintendo AU/NZ account on facebook? They might be a bit more responsive than email support.
Also I think 10 days to respond is likely an over-estimation.

            • +1

@FireRunner: yeah i tried already no reply

              • @Rukiata: Ok, I guess all you can do now is wait for a response.
You're likely to get a refund since it's a common issue due to a their data leak

                • @FireRunner: im stressing, i hope so. This is first time everrrrrrrrr been hacked

    • I bought a Wii. I gave my cc to Nintendo so I could buy some old SNES games

Nektminit my cc has unauthorised purchases Inc guns from USA.

I call bank, cancel cc, and transactions are reversed a month later.

This dispute doesn't add up. The PayPal account is linked to the Nintendo account. The transaction may only be authorised by the user that has access to the Nintendo account.

The user either give someone else the key or failed to keep the key safe.

Either enable 2FA or never save/link payment methods to Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft stores.

    • Use something like Authy or it's equivalent on every account that allows for it, makes it almost impossible to hack (I'd also never save payment methods either, but I have Authy for my Paypal, as well as my Nintendo/Steam(Steam Guard)/PSN acccounts). It's pretty much a must have thing nowadays, especially with how common hacking has become.

I don't know what PayPal has to do with it.
It would be an issue with Nintendo and your bank to sort out.

  • +1

OP speak to your bank and they will sort it one way or the other. You could also try and see if Nintendo are willing to refund but regardless the bank will deal with it one way or the other.

Having said that if the bank commences a chargeback I'm not sure what stance Nintendo take towards your account.

Last year I had $500 v-bucks bought on my switch account, woke up in the morning to a bunch of PayPal and Nintendo receipts. I called Nintendo about it first and they were straight up happy to give a refund after understanding the circumstance and said it may take up to ten days, but I got it in one or two.

    • your lucky cant even call them right now..
they have no call support, lines closed.

    • +1

yooooooo! got email today! and they said they will refund it woo

  • Now do yourself a favour, change your passwords for both PAYPAL & PSN and enable MFA on both.
Small bit of security gives peace of mind…..
