Cashrewards: We Wont Use Your Mobile Number to Send You Promotional Messages. Actually, We Will

Received a Pizza Hut cashback offer though SMS yesterday. Deleted it but I'm sure I'm not the only one who received it. Saw this morning that they claim they won't don't this. Sad.

This is a good point. I received a promotional Boxing Day text from them on Saturday. It must be nice to have a policy and then totally ignore it.

      hi matthew

      • +1

Wouldn't bet on it. I always put my name as Dougie for Pizza Hut orders.

        • this is his cashrewards account lol

  • +4

how are you 100% certain it is due to Cashrewards?
I have not got a single marketing SMS ever

    • +2

true, though another family member received the same sms. it was the pizza hut deal.

    • +6

Mapax, treat yourself to the best Boxing Day EVER at Cashrewards.Huge deals + cashback! Shop now and save https://bit.ly/ Optout:STOP to 0428

      • That is pretty conclusive!

      • "best boxing day EVER" is an overstatement :p

        • It isn't false if you are talking about your profits.

    • Do you have 2FA enabled on your account?
I got the Boxing Day text as well, promoting their cashback offers for the day.

      • I have 2FA enabled and have never received a message from them.

I have a long password and didn't get their pizza hut offer via SMS, only the generic "have a pizza on us" email.

        • -1

Long password here as well, might have to do with activity.

          • +1

@follow: Honestly, doubt the SMS is because 2FA is off or password is short.

  • I got some messages but they were click frenzy initiated rather than cash rewards
, are you sure they were sent by CashRewards?

    • +3

Sender says Cashrewards and bit.ly address takes you to Cashrewards website so seems likely to be them.

      • Have to admit I was lazy and didn’t click the links. Thanks for clarifying.

    Silence from TA <cricket chirping>

    • +13

That is the sound of a privacy policy being very quickly updated

    • +2

Will there now be a CR heckler/troll who will periodically post "answer me about your privacy breach", "stop ignoring me TA!" ?

I didn't get the SMS so I cannot apply for the role.

Sigh. TA has been great. We ought to cut TA some slack!

      • It really is interesting how different CR is treated compared to SB even though the SB breach wasn't their fault.

        • +1

Failing to maintain proper security IS your fault.

          • @dualcore: Do you know for a fact that SB's security is worse than CR's?

      • +2

Seems fair, although much like the Shopback privacy breach, they'll just have to keep offering deals and it will be forgotten about in a few weeks.

  • They broke the their own policy, is that a contract? Can they be sued??

    https://www.acma.gov.au/stop-getting-spam

    https://www.acma.gov.au/avoid-sending-spam

    • What are you suing them for?

They can probably get an infringement fine.

      • Really? I'll suggest this to marketing to do it too. We need a way to drum up business. The fine doesn't sound like much.

  • -1

Contact them. Their response is usually on point if you have a problem. THEN moan if you are ticked off and block them.

    • +1

seems futile to contact them. i just sent the STOP message but later saw that they said they wouldn't send promo messages to your number.

  • +1

ACCC ? Seems a simple binary that they could follow up on.

WARNING… after enduring a barrage of intrusive marketers, phone, text, email, etc, I decided to cancel my phone number and obtain a completely new one.
Silly me thought an OzBargain own inducement would be safe enough… suddenly, now I receive phone calls that when you ring back…. "no longer are connected"…. who are these people?

    • +1

      probably telemarketers/scammers

  • To be fair the free pizza promo is a good one. Who doesn’t like free pizza.

    • +1

There’s no such thing as a free pizza……
