Greatprice.com.au seems to be a scam - may use ebay to scam

Greatprice.com.au seems to be a scam website.

Here is the story.
I sold an item on ebay and the user only created their account and made the purchase on the same day.
I contacted the buyer to confirm they are legitimate and to provide a ID or utility bill that shows that name and address. And they can black out any other information on the ID or bill.
I explained that the reason I asked for this is that I had been a victim of fraud in the past so am taking caution with anyone with a 0 feedback.
The buyer responds by saying I am a scammer, he will give me bad feedback. This was my first red flag.
So then I googled the delivery address which happened to be a shop.
I spoke to the person who supposedly purchased the item and he said he purchased the same item from greatprice.com.au, not ebay. The person also sent me screenshot of his purchase from greatprice.com.au.
This made me think that maybe greatprice.com.au is a reseller.
But if they were a reseller, who not just say so?
I then responded to the ebay buyer with this information and they continued to say I am a scammer and ebay will close my account.
I even asked the buyer to provide me their phone number so we could chat, but again, no number and continues to call me a scammer.

My concern is that if i ship the item, the buyer could claim a charge back which paypal won't protect you for. I had a similar situation where I had sold an item, i had proof of delivery and purchase protection. But as a chargeback is from a bank for unauthorised transaction, paypal sides with the bank and seller protection does not matter.

Also checked product review website where many users have said greatprice.com.au is as a scam website.

So just wanted to share the bad experience I have had with this person who is representing greatprice.com.au

Just cancel the sale using the reason of "something is wrong with the buyers address". Then block the buyer's eBay name, then alter your ebay setting to only sell to a buyer with a feedback score of xxx

    • Thanks for advice and will change that setting to only sell to a buyer with feedback score of xxx

I want to report this further as I don't want anyone to get scammed

      • There's nothing you can do but protect yourself. Nobody you can report to. And nothing really to report anyway.

There really is nobody to report the issue to.

  • As Ocker mentions, just cancel purchase and set limits in future. You shouldn't need to investigate your buyer, and if I was buying from you, I definitely wouldn't be giving you any additional ID/utility bills.

I don't understand how your buyer is saying that they're buying it from somewhere else yet dealing with you via eBay. Greatprice is recent Shopify site and not registered for GST. Not sure their legitimacy, but their address is Westfield shopping centre which doesn't sound right. This won't necessarily help you, but here is their info:

A little confusing, I'll try and explain it better.

The fake scammer buyer is from ebay. I done a bit of research on the delivery address provided in ebay. It happened to be a shop in QLD. Their phone number is on google, so i rang the shop in QLD. I asked for the contact person on the delivery address and spoke to him.

The guy in QLD ended up giving me his email. I sent him snapshots of my ebay messages and he confirmed it has not been him contacting me on ebay. He confirmed he had not purchased on ebay. He purchased from greatprice.com.au

The guy i'm talking to on ebay seems to DINH, HUNG and pretending to be the guy who owns the store in QLD.

After a few phone calls with the guy in QLD, he is cancelling his order from greatprice.com.au.

I have also cancelled the ebay order.

Hope this makes sense. If not, please ask more questions.

rompastompa You shouldn't need to investigate your buyer, and if I was buying from you, I definitely wouldn't be giving you any additional ID/utility bills.

I shouldn't need to investigate, but the transaction just didn't feel right. By asking for a ID/bill, all l wanted was validation that it matches the delivery address. I have the name and delivery address already through ebay. I even asked to blackout all other info on the ID/bill. So i am not asking for any new information. I would not ask for this if the feedback score was better than 0 and if the account wasn't just created. I only asked as I had an issue with a new user/0 feedback account in the past. On the previous instance, I did get my money back but it took 30 days to release. And paypal only returned my funds as I was a good customer. Seller protection doesn't mean much when a chargeback is made for unauthorised transaction.

Anyways, to avoid this in future, change my buyer requirements to block buyers with feedback score less than 1
