  • Hey Op. I’ve got a 6 week old bub. Why should I download this? Convince me that it works and I’ll bite

Just go the your local library and get " Save Our Sleep" book. Excellent option for getting your baby into a good routine. Options for both breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Have 3 kids that sleept through the night from 12 to 16 weeks, and still do now

      • Thanks for the tip! Have an impending spawn arriving in May. Will look into this!

Does that advocate CIO (crying it out)? I haven't read it but most mummy fb groups hate that book with a passion.

      • +1

Worst book EVER. Has more bad reviews than good.

      • +1

Save our sleep book is actually very bad for babies developing brains. It tells you to let your baby cry then come settle the baby until the baby become numb to the stress of being without the mother.

As humans our babies should be with the mum or dad for first 3 years.

If you want a great books (audiobooks) Vanessa Lapointe has written a few books that I believe is the most correct way for babies, toddlers and children to be disciplined.

        • Does any of the material compare that to the detrimental effects of poor sleep quality for the parents and babies for upwards of 2 years (per kid)? I see that argument a lot, but in contrast I've read poor sleep quality is linked with nasties like Alzheimer's so I'm curious.

          • @3: My son sleeps with me and guess what he sleeps more then 10 hours straight. If the baby is close they will sleep.

But we want to have them in there own room away from us.

It is simple keep them close they will be settled no need for them to cry them selves into a stressed state.

You don't bring a baby into this world to suite the adults needs, babies are the ones that need love and care.

Each to there own but I would suggest looking at both side.

        • I would assume crying and self soothing would be nature.

Throughout human history parents have had to work. It is now that we got the benefit of so much wealth we can be dedicated to our kids.

After 7bn humans we have realised we need to be instant on call to our kids.

The same kids that might live at home until they are in their 30s because they want to buy a million dollar home on a graduate salary. No sacrifices.

          • +1

@netjock: I don't believe self soothing is nature as a crying baby will cause wild animals to come. Plus human babies can't do anything for themselves like animals.
They need us humans parents for survival. It's only because of modern life need for money that we put babies in child care we choose money over our children.
We also choose our time tv gaming hobbies more valuable then the connection with our children.
Think how scared a child would be left alone in a room full of fear.

All you got to do is listen to Vanessa lepointe along with this save our sleep and you can make up your mind as to which makes more sense.

            • @Jklaro: There you go.

Putting guilt on parents. All types of people raise bad kids. How do you explain rich people who gave their kids everything in life and they still turned out bad?

The industry preys on people's guilt and insecurities about their children.

              • @netjock: Rich people? That's just stupid thinking that the rich would somehow for some reason grow there kids to be loving caring empethetic humans?

And to say putting guilt on the parents is absolutely true. If the baby is sleeping with you the baby is more relaxed and calm.

The issue here is parents want to still be free from a baby to do what they want and not have to care for a baby.

To think you should just let a child cry to sleep is truly cruel. No parent feels at ease hearing the baby cry only because a book said that this is fine to leave a baby cry.

Natural instinct is to keep baby near.

                • @Jklaro: To believe that the child can be with parent 100% of the time we wouldn't have 7bn people on earth. People had to work in the past whether hunting or gathering.

Believe what you want. You are describing a first world problem.

                  • @netjock: Nope not 100% of the time, I'm talking about sleeping.

Also in nature we live in tribes where the mother grandparents sisters aunties would live together to care and not leave the babies alone for the first few years.

We have become modern and try to make a wild animal human fall asleep alone in a room with no connection to anyone else.

No other mammal leaves there babies alone an if they do the have a big chance of being killed.

    • There're plenty of free versions out there.

If you need 12 months you’re doing it wrong. We’ve used the Ferber method 3 times now and it’s less than a week until they’re sleep trained.

  • The Play Store has 5 reviews and 100 downloads. You would think the offer might be a bit more generous given that it's so new?

  • +1

Use ABC Listen, then choose the Dream time station. It is 3 hours of free, peaceful music. Or, tune a radio to static, and turn it down to just audible. Free white noise.

If my child was actually struggling with sleep, I'd see an actual sleep specialist. This app sounds like it is promising the moon to me.

  • Can't say CIO method is directly good for babies. However if it can provide parents decent sleep and in turn make then willing to treat them better in daytime, it could have a better effect to mental health of both babies and parents.
Unless you can be deprived of sleep every night and love them the same, it's worth considering.

Babies like “white noise”. So you can use:
    * A hairdryer (with cold air operation)
    * An FM radio tuned into static
    * A vacuum cleaner
    * Beach recording
    * etc

What works best is just going “ssshhhh”, while gently patting the top of the nappy. After a few minutes gradually fade off, and then leave the room.

If they cry after that DO NOT PICK THEM UP. Check the nappy, then immediately repeat the above steps. Initially it can take up to 30 minutes, but after a couple of days they should fall asleep within minutes.

There, I just saved you $86.

    • Yeah you lost me at 'hair dryer'

  • Sleepsense - Dana Obleman

  • Put "baby" on anything and you can sell it for 5x or 6x true worth.

Look at breast feeding vitamins. $30 for 30 tablets. Just a multivitamin $10 for 200 + fish oil (omega) $15 for 200.

Like most people have said. Go and read a few books, implementation and you'll be fine. Most of the time it fails due to bad implementation because the parents get soft. You also know what being soft parents get you? Kids that want to travel overseas twice a year business class, have nice new Euro car and million dollar homes where they grew up on graduate salaries.

  • White noise: Google podcast (browser or app) and there is a stream called "relaxing white noise" 2 - 3 hrs each track.

    It is free.
