Yes. Don't buy it if you are against China or you are afraid of contracting Covid-19 drinking from it.

Don't buy it if you are against China

I don''t think people are against China. They just don't like the fact that China is hurting Australian business, and therefore our economy by blocking certain imports.

or you are afraid of contracting Covid-19 drinking from it

        That's a bit ridiculous.

        • Whoosh.

They just don't like the fact that China is hurting Australian business, and therefore our economy by blocking certain imports.

Shouldn't a country be allowed to decide what products cross their borders and who they deal with?

It's out fault that we have built an economy that relies on one country. We need China much more than they need us.

If there is literally only one place where we can sell a product (e.g. Lobster) then it isn't a very good product to be relying on for long term sales.

This is an interesting article, the bellow paragraphs are from it
          https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/australias-asymmetrical-tr…

China accounts for more than a third of global sales for 22 of Australia’s top 30 exports to the nation
If China didn’t buy our iron ore, there would literally be nowhere else to send it.

          China’s share of Australia’s exports %

          Pharmaceuticals 47

China is also the dominant supplier of many of our imports. Items in which China has a dominant market share (greater than a third) account for 18% of Australia’s total goods imports.

If China didn’t buy our iron ore, there would literally be nowhere else to send it.

That's a pretty ridiculous thing to say unless you believe china is the only country that needs iron ore…
Just because we export all of it to China, doesn't mean others don't buy that good, it's just that china buys a crap tonne of it from everyone.
If you dropped the price, as china wasn't buying, other countries would buy it.

            • @NigelTufnel: Did you bother to read the article?

The impracticability of diversification is most obvious in iron ore. Australia will ship almost 800 million tonnes of iron ore to China this year. The total seaborne market in the rest of the world is only 460 million tonnes and Australia already captures around 100 million tonnes of that. If China didn’t buy our iron ore, there would literally be nowhere else to send it.

              • -2

@spaceflight: Just because someone else also said it doesn't make it correct.
So we already capture 100m tonnes of the other export market, yet the stats below that say 100% of our iron ore goes to China?

Anyway, the other market is based on current prices, they would have to pay. Those prices would change if China didn't buy our ore, so it would likely expand a lot. We'd just be selling it cheaper.

Just because someone else also said it doesn't make it correct.

You should use yourself as an example

So we already capture 100m tonnes of the other export market, yet the stats below that say 100% of our iron ore goes to China?

Yes we already capture around 100m tonnes of the other iron ore export market, and the stats below that say 100% of our nickel ore goes to China

Just because something ends in "ore" does not make it the same thing.

Anyway, the other market is based on current prices, they would have to pay.

Which we have built our industry on, pay our workers based on, buy fuel based on, operate machinery based on, make a profit based on etc.

Those prices would change if China didn't buy our ore

Not if it means suppliers are better off not supplying at a lower price.

so it would likely expand a lot. We'd just be selling it cheaper.

How will it expand a lot?

The entire global demand for iron ore is 1,260 million tonnes.
From that China takes 800 million tonnes from Australia
That leaves 460 million tonnes demanded by the rest of the world - Australia supplies 100 of that 460 million tonnes

If China stops buying iron ore from Australia than Australia needs to find a buyer for 800 million tonnes, however there is only a demand of 360 million tonnes.
Assuming that Australia can supply 100% of that 360 million tonnes, meaning Australia is supplying the entire world's seaborne market demand of 460 million tonnes (excluding china) what do we do with the other 340 million tonnes that would have gone to China which we have no market for?
As the article said there would literally be nowhere else to send it.

    • Sistema products are made in New Zealand

      • +1

This is not made in New Zealand. It is made in China

  • Good bottle, had mine for a while now.

    • +1

Same I use this everyday it holds temperature very well. Just one thing over time the rubber around the outside lid gets a little loose.

      • +1

Bought one but couldn't get rid of the rubbery/ plasticky smell from the rubber lid.

  • What's the difference between these and the Kmart ones?

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/double-wall-insulated-bottl…

    • +2

The Kmart one you linked is the standard shape which are very common and vary in quality quite a bit.

For example, the Kmart one is the shape of the Oasis branded one (eg: https://www.hellogreen.com.au/products/oasis-insulated-stain…), which is regarded as one of the best… but I've got a cheapie with the exact same shape, which has a very metallic taste to it. Our Oasis one doesn't have any metallic taste at all.

The Sistema one is produced by a well known brand with decent QA, and it gets good reviews. So it is well regarded because people know what they're going to get.

      • I believe the original design was by S'well in 2010.
They are still really expensive: https://www.swell.com/shop/swell/bottles/

However, generic (identical?) versions are everywhere now…wondering if they are made in the same factory as the S'well originals…

        Are you able to share?

  • Similar but different brand is also on sale at the same price. Was planning to buy one but thinking of getting the amazon one instead as that comes with a cleaning brush.

    • Can you please link that

  • +1

Woolies also have the Decor ones at same reduction/price.
    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/495442/dec…

  • I have two and they work well. The only thing I will say, is I want to by a CrazyCap (shit name) which is a replacement cap that has a battery and UVC light to kill bacteria and keep it smelling fresh. Sadly, it wont work with this kind of bottle as it's threads are on the inside. Should work with Decor.

    • +4

Or you could just wash it?

  • This one's metal is very thin and gets easily dented and scratched. It's harder to clean since the bottle due to its design and the rubber on the cap comes off easily while twisting. It's not bad for 10$ however there is this one https://shop.coles.com.au/a/national/product/smash-blue-stai… at Coles which if you can wait for half price sale is twice the quality in 12.50$ when on special and easy to clean since you can unscrew the bottle at middle joint.

    • The smash ones are not comparable on their thermal qualities, smash will go cold > warm in a third of the time the sistema will.

A downside of the screw joint

  • Used this daily for a year now, bought at coles when they had it for $10. Rate it and would buy again - but current one still good as new.

  • +1

I've used this everyday for 6 months and has been great. Worth the 10 bucks

  • Many thanks, grabbed one.

  • are they dishwashable?

    • +1

No, on the card that comes with it states not to use in dishwasher.

    • +2

They are vacuum insulated. The dishwasher's heat could warp one of the metal walls and break the vacuum seal.

      Dishwasher safe options:
      1) Tritan plastic bottles
      2) Single layer full stainless steel

    • +1

      Wash with a bottle brush.
