Hitachi 58QLEDSM20 58" 4K Ultra HD Android QLED TV - $895 @ JB Hi-Fi

140

Another QLED under $900. If you couldn't find a EKO 65" Frameless QLED 4K, this looks like a good deal.

Hopefully no-one has purchased one of these because I can 100% confirm these Hitachis are absolutely identical to the EKO 58" from BigW currently available for $549 I know because I was about to drop $699 on one from The Good Guys in early December for my Dad but decided to walk out the store to have a think about it. Lucky I did because after inspecting then buying & testing the 58" EKO from BigW I realised they were absolutely identical.

That’s a pretty sweet deal at $549, and Android TV is better than a lot of the Smart TV interfaces from the TV OEMs.

      • Yep. These are Konka TVs (although not 100% confirmed) badged by whoever wants to put their name to them including Hitachi who apparently haven't made their own TVs since approx 2010-2012. I was blown away with how good the EKO was when I tested it out for Dad and he's extremely happy with it too. Of course there are better TVs out there but for the money these really are a no-brainer.

Purchased one last night to be picked up within the hour. Staff discount dropped it to $496.
This is my first non big brand TV purchase in a while.

    • Yeah, as with JVC, Blaupunkt and many of the major brands of the past, they are all just rebrand generic panels. The firmware is generic, and the only place you see the branding is on the TV's front frame and the box.

Only a handful of brands develop and manufacture their own TVs now. Sony, Samsung, LG, hisense, and TCL come to mind.

Just got it home. Seems a great TV, even for the N64. Best cheap TV I've purchased easy.

    • Big W doesn't even mention any "proper" model that can be checked against the energy australia website (energy star ratings and details).

Also they have no mention of warranty, so, sort of 1 year (excluding AU consumer law protections).

JB is listing this with 3 years warranty under the Hitachi brand — I think I would trust that more.

      • If such matters are a concern then yes but sometimes it's just worth the risk IMO. As seen above, some are getting the EKO TV for close to half the price of the Hitachi so if anything did go wrong you could simply buy another and be close to on par price-wise. Disgusting waste of resources if that was to happen though, don't get me wrong.

Mate not hard to figure out the Big W EKO is the K580USGQ

Then cross referencing that on the energy rating site

        Eko 58" details here:
        https://www.eko-entertainment.com.au/k580usgq-58inch-qled-4k…

I got the Qled 55" a couple of months back, no complaints at the price…

    • Is this now the same as the JVC at BIGW for $549? https://www.bigw.com.au/product/jvc-58-34-4k-uhd-led-smart-t…

      • No, the JVC doesn't run Android OS.

Went into Big W yesterday looking for one of the EKO 65 QLEDs but ended up with the 58 inch QLED EKO for $549. Cannot be happier after upgrading from a 10 year old Soniq.

    • Out of interest, was that due to stock or did something else change your mind?

      • +1

Mostly stock yes, but also the missus wanted me to get even smaller than the 58 so it was a compromise lol. They are basically identical apart from the size anyway.

        • +1

Awesome thanks, enjoy your new toy 🙂.

    • Which Big W did you go to? Cheers. All my locals are out of stock.

Gungahlin in ACT. Showed no stock on the website but in store they had one left and a bunch of 55 inch QLED ones.

    • EKO 58 for 549 or the JVC 55 for 499? Which one would you guys recommend? Thanks.

      • Seem like much of a muchness really, 3 inches for $50 aint too bad. For some reason when I went in none of the JVC TVs were turned on, but I imagine all the panels come from the same place.

        • It will be the same company, but the panel grades, software running on the TVs/how polished they are etc all differ. Hence, wondering. Someone said that the JVC 55 is basically an EKO. So if thats the case, then I guess I will go with the 58. How big a vehicle is required to carry home a 58?

          • @John Doh: I laid the EKO 58" down flat in the back of a Corolla with the sears down. Fit perfectly but did need the front seats moved forward a tiny bit. You could struggle with it by yourself but I recommend getting someone to help.

          • @John Doh: Managed to get it in the back of a i30 with the front seats heaps forward, laid flat (like steveandbelle mentioned). Was easy enough.

  • I heard Samsung Supplies the QLED for Hitachi (Now a Turkish based band). Great combo with Apple TV.

  • If these generics are so good is there any point in buying a brand name ? I recently got a Hisense Q7

    • +1

The latest release/brand name/expensive TVs will give you the subjective final 10% of perfection a generic just wont offer. Up to the individual if that's worthwhile.

      • +1

There was also this thing, if it was true; that if you got a GMH engine in a Nissan, it was a higher grade engine than one supplied in a Commodore.

Years ago, if you purchased a hard disk drive for a Sun Microsystems server, it was very expensive, but it was only the highest rated Seagate drives that qualified to be "Sun" certified ones.

IOW, the branding situation allowed for a brand to get specific levels of quality. Perhaps the quality levels for the EKO is in the 80% range and Hitachi in the 90+% …. or perhaps they are actually no different and it's just luck of the draw what you get.

      • Hm OK So for $549 I can get a QLED EKO 55 and the Hisense equivalent Q8 is $1595 ? that's a massive difference for 10% perception.

I upgraded from a Kogan and it's been faultless but the picture quality difference to the Hisense is huge. Having said that TVs have come a long way since we got the Kogan and I imagine that the Kogan would be a lot better now.

        • Yep. Many variables involved here. Many people pay far more than $1000 extra purely for better blacks or higher refresh rates for their gaming whereby others simply wont appreciate or make use of either of those. I'd say your Hisense offers a lot more than you think but hey if you can use/appreciate it then it's totally worthwhile!

  • Guys, EKO 58 for 549 or the JVC 55 for 499? Which one would you guys recommend? Also how do kogan/Falcon TVs compare to these? I see better ratings for eko compared to kogan/falcon on productreview though. Thanks.

I got mine (55inch Sm20) from Cosco Last Month paid $750. Placed it on the wall. The colour of the TV is actually really nice very similar to Samsung Panel and the Android OS very Zippy. Im quite surprised whenever I visited the Goodguys and JB I found the display for this is turned off for some reason, its like they don't want to promote Hitachi. On the other hand Cosco had it on display and was lucky enough to play with the remote to check other features on the TV, i bought it straight away.Owned it for just over a month now I can say this is one of the best and underrated TV in the Market.

    • +1

Yes! I had the same issue when I first saw the Hitachi in The Good Guys… it was on the bottom shelf, switched off, no remote anywhere and not even a price tag either but as I discovered it was one of their catalogue specials so it was all a bit odd. Was really impressed with it… but was even more impressed when I found the identical EKO for less ;)

      • Will the software running on both (hitachi/eko) be the same?

        • I can't confirm 100% but it definitely seemed to be.

      • Hitachi comes with 3y warranty sits equal to TCL with piece of mind plus Cosco had this attractive 90 days satisfaction return guarantee.
