Recommendations for a New Car Stereo

Hey ozbargainers!

I'm looking around to upgrade the head unit for a 2010 Mazda 6 with Bose system.

Not looking for anything too flash, but there is just so many decent units around it's a little overwhelming.

Just wanted to put it out there to see what you may have used, what you think is good, any suggestions good or bad etc.

Only really looking for something that will support Android Auto/Carplay etc as streaming music is all it will really do, and some navigation. Media controls would be sweet but not essential.

Nothing too cheap and nasty, but something in middle ground that can be used with the current bose setup would be perfect.

TIA!

    I installed this guy - Sony AX-3000 in my 2013 Mazda 3.
No complaints, it works great. Carplay is awesome. The Aerpro fascia kit I got also worked perfectly.
Actually one complaint - I can't map a long-press of the steering wheel buttons.
IE I use the "Mode" button on my Mazda steering wheel as a play pause button as I dont need it to change modes. Id love to be able to long press it for Siri.

In the back of my mind I have the idea that ~2010 mazda 6 + BOSE = ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE to replace the headunit.

I would suggest some googling and maybe a quote from a local installer (or parts if DIY) before you get too set on the idea. I would not be surprised at all if the parts required to install the new headunit were more expensive than the unit itself.

    • Same here.

    • P.S. I also have the AX-3000 as noted above and find it entirely sufficient. It doesn't 'wow' me. But haven't really found anything annoying either.

The Bose system will run through a proprietary amp which means proprietary harnesses. It's no harder to install if you can find adaptors but finding the adaptors is the hard part.

I just bought the same thing for my 2009 mazda 3 with bose.

I'm with Ptenkae on this one.
    Honestly, the chinese head units
    a) Look better than the aftermarket Apline, Kenwood etc.
    b) Respond better (have capacitive touch screens)
    c) Sound on par with them
    d) last a significant amount of time (i've had my joying for 4 years now and it's still going strong
    e) Cheaper than many of those with more features. Would happily buy one again.
