        Saving $50?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it better to get 5% vouchers and just buy at JB or good guys?

        • +3

          I'm sorry. I don't know about that.

          • +3

@paranoidguy: Well through various services you can buy gift cards at 5% off, like Good Guys, JbHifi etc etc. I assumed nearly every OZB used these when buying common tech from these stores. If you are with AGL, Youi, Suncorp etc etc

You would save an extra $43 ontop of your savings.

        • Or harvey norman though they dont have the iphone in sale.

        • +1

I did get to price match Costco Sony X9000H with Sony Store, so potentially you can use this to price match before using discount gift card with JB Hi-Fi for further saving.

    This or macbook?

    • i was looking at 2.7K for a 13 inch mac book pro (with 512 SDD / 16g RAM / education software bundle) - I am just getting into the apple space and finding it rather painful!
      - even though this is cheaper - there is surely no way I could convince myself to spend this much on a phone (even as a business expense)

      • +1

A 13' MBP feels like far better value to me.

What does this do that an iPhone SE doesn't?
        - Larger screen
        - Faster (but how much in real world usage?)
        - Way better camera, but unless your use case is semi-pro shooting raw on iPhone and editing in post via lightroom. The average user is likely just uploading it to Facebook or insta to have the quality compressed out of it.
        - No touch-ID (which is a deal breaker for me)

        • If Touch ID is a dealbreaker for you, do you plan on getting any iPhone after the SE? with the mini, I imagine they’ll kill they that completely now, right? Maybe it’s not cost effective to do so, I am just curious.

          • @BigBrickBoy: I'm hoping that masks and their impacts on face id will push apple to find a way to include it. And I think that a cheaper SE style phone on a slower update cycle will always be part of the range.

      • Get the Air M1 8/256 or 16/512 or 1tb. The 13 pro isn’t long for this world and touchbar sucks

    • +1

Which one do you use more?

I was tossing between the max or MacBook but I use my phone way more than my laptop so ended up buying the phone

  • +2

iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB is also $1949.99

  • +1

before paying up consider if it's worth paying the extra for Pro over standard 12 review

    • +6

Although I agree with you, keep in mind this is the pro max not the pro which is a different phone entirely

      • +1

agree, I noticed that after I posted lol, either way something to consider for others

    • Speaking from family/friends feedback regarding 12, some experienced heating/charging and sudden reboot issues. Changed over to the Pro and never had any issues.

Also Costco don’t accept Amex for anyone wondering.

      • I have had a 12 since release and have none of those issues.

        • Funnily enough, Apple upgraded them to the Pro with a good discount for the trouble no questions asked.

But yeah, we’ve had no issues.

    • +1

No point getting the pro. It’s like the middle child howveer the pro MAX is a different story.

      • How so? I would personally go for the Pro for the smaller form factor. Having had a 7 Plus for 4 years I want less bulk in my pocket, and the 12 Pro would give me more screen size for a smaller overall size. I know that anything modern would be big improvement over what I’ve got now, but size is definitely the driving factor for me.

        • +2

If u r used to smaller phones than yeh go for the pro but there are people out there prefer bigger screens and battery size hence the Max.

          • +1

@sauce2k: I thought I’d hate the MAX as I’ve never been happy with the Note series but i was wrong. I like the big screen and it’s happy enough in my jeans pocket! I was going to get the MINI but glad I didn’t as 2 days, lots of use and still got juice until bedtime….

        • yeah but if you look into it you don't get bigger screen size than your 7 plus

          • @[Deactivated]: When doing a comparison on the Apple web site it says the 12 Pro has a 6.1” screen whereas the 7 Plus is only 5.5”. You’re not thinking of the 12 Mini are you?

      • +2

I agree 12 or pro max is better value.

      • +1

IMO the Pro Max makes more sense - better camera, sensor stabilisation, bigger battery, bigger screen for a small premium over the pro. If you're spending $1700 on a Pro, it makes sense to pay another $100-$150 and get the pro max (128gb models)

      It's true.
I made the mistake of getting an iPhone 12 Pro Max because of being worried about Huawei's future (access to chips, google, etc) + unable to buy a local Mate 40 (warranty). I got it 15% off with JB Hifi vouchers (so about $1571).
I wanted a futue-proof, latest gen 5nm chip and decided to try out the Apple ecosystem.
The iPhone is constantly losing wifi, bluetooth and 4g in such a way that I need to manually toggle it off and on again. I only notice when messages stop being sent through or my watch stops talking to the phone. I've had bugs where the lock screen won't go away even though I've unlocked it. There's bugs with CarPlay where I need to disconnect the USB and reconnect it randomly or sometimes even reboot the phone. I find it much harder to share files/photos. The camera is worse than my old Huawei despite sites like DXO ranking it highly (blurring zoomed photos, grainy normal photos). Much harder to add music to my phone (I have to use a laptop!!). I had to buy a special cable to connect to my TV which does some trick where it simulates AirPlay — then some videos won't even play. Also, my quite modern wifi Tizen-based Samsung TV is 'too old' to mirror my screen wirelessly.
I could go on and on but I am regretting buying the iPh12PrMa and should have just bit the bullet with a Mate 40 Pro instead I think. Right now, I'm just watching and waiting.

      • +1

I am looking to get an iPhone for the exact opposite reason
my older Huawei is not getting any updates after Android 9
my Huawei watch has only 3 things it can do with Android wear, and still I have to be very patient to use it
I thought the apple ecosystem is the one where everything works in perfect harmony :(

        • -1

Which Huawei is it? May be able to upgrade it still.

I thought iPhone was more stable as well. I have a work iPhone 7 so it's not exactly new to me but never used as a personal device before this.
After mentioning some of the issues to friends who rave about iphone, they nod in agreement about all these issues. Just very quiet about it when talking to their Android friends.

      • +1

Owner of 12 pro max here.

Did you get a faulty product? Might worthwhile to visit Apple Genius Bar.

I came from Huawei m20pro and personally I feel like the iOS experience is a lot smoother than android.

Wifi/4g/5G very strong on my phone. I constantly get 5G in most places I go.

Great camera. I have no issues with it. Some certain conditions Huawei wins but iPhone cam is catching up especially night time photos.

Hard to share files. Are your friends mostly on Android if so then yes it is hard. Otherwise system sharing files is extremely under Apple eco system eg airdrop, airplay etc

Add music. Ok fair. Most people are using Spotify/Apple Music but yeh it’s hard to add music into iOS files.

      • My wife's 12 Pro max is having the same issues. Data drop everywhere. Changing sim makes no difference. There's about a 40 page thread on the Apple forums about it regarding the 12.

Suggest getting the phone replaced which is what we're going to do when we're get back home.

        • Doesn't feel like an issue that can be resolved by replacing it if everyone is getting it. Also, when you replace the phone, do you always get someone else's refurbished phone? Do you get the option of having a new phone?

          • @xsacha: Almost every phone has a forum that goes on and on about a particular issue.

I’m curious what is this data drop forum lol share it please. Very odd to drop data , have never owned a phone with similar issues.

Also I see you came from p20pro I had m20p

            • selfies on p20 m20 are horrible. Too much post processing and beauty mode makes it look fake and pale.

            • longer legs? Lmao that’s an odd one.

            • dynamic range: iPhone beats the Huawei 20 series.

My friends have all been saying images and videos are now heaps clearer. Don’t get me started with videos on Huawei phones they trash af

            • @sauce2k: I have also never had a phone with similar issues before but it's a pretty big problem and is even in the news I've found (contains forum links there too): https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2020/12/01/apple-ip…

Regarding camera: I don't really take selfies so not sure. I've seen they get good ranking on their newer phones (Mate 40 Pro tops that in DXO). Beauty mode is the first thing you turn off by the way and you should also make sure there's no vibrancy setting on any phone you use (affects all brands). Yeah the longer legs thing is weird, it looks like the camera is stretching their body but doesn't happen on side-on photos. I'd upload a pic but don't want to put anyone I know in it so won't bother. Dynamic range looks like a nit pic. All the auto photos I take are better on my old phone. Better detail, clearer, better zoom, better in between zooms and they look normal like how my eyes see it.

Not sure how you can ditch EMUI 11 on the m20p for the iphone honestly. I'm thinking about going back to one of those phones (released after p20 pro) or trying out one of the new snapdragon phones.

      • I bought one recently and I am not facing any of the issues you are. I have CarPlay in my car and don't experience disconnects. Is your car stereo's firmware updated? Can't comment on the camera as I haven't used a Mate40 to compare to. I'm quite happy with the camera quality of the Pro Max. AirPlay works fine for my phone but I use it with an Apple TV.

        • I'm using the latest firmware in one of my cars (released 2019) and the other car is using 2018 firmware. In both cars I don't get any disconnects from android auto or easy connection.
Camera quality comparison is to a p20 pro. It's true most people like the iPhone 12 pro max camera quality by itself, but as compared to the photos I used to produce, people have noticed it got worse unfortunately.
It is also producing some very strange 'long legs' images that I havent worked out yet — just in auto mode. Some people like that but it's usually just a bit scary.
On my older phone, I can wirelessly stream to any wifi or wifi direct TV including a 10 year old one in my office. Can mirror, stream video or even use desktop mode (full windowed environment with task bar and launcher). Wired works in the same way with any USB to HDMI cable. I'm actually surprised my newish TV isn't airplay compatible.

      • Yeah the Max’s camera is overrated after testing it in Brisbane tonight. It’s praised more than it deserves

You can actually get this for the same price at JB HiFi. When I bought my iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB, I asked the staff if they price match with Costco (I know they don't but asked anyway), staff said they don't. But then I asked what's the best price they can do and then they said $1799. Turns out 99c cheaper than Costco. LOL

Whenever I’ve asked for deals in the past at Melbourne CBD stores, I was pretty much laughed at…must be really dependent on the salesperson.

  • -1

As a iPhoneXS owner of many of their products I think this is a shit phone and a super inflated price!

Galaxy A41 5G $400 and A71 5G $639-699 and either as good for a fraction of the price! Seriously, $1800 for a phone with a shelf life of 1 year, NUTS!

    • -1

      Owner of XS..lol

    • +1

One year?! What are you doing to your phones…?

    • The XS is a fine phone, aside from battery life compared to the Max. Aside from that, it’s awesome and I’m keeping mine as a backup

@guesswhat Get OW to price beat - https://www.apple.com/au-hed/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-12-pro/6… and it will come to $1756.55

    Similar to this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/596349

    • That's amazing. I'm looking to get one.

    • +1

I think OW will know that is their education price and refuse to beat it?

    • +3

This is not targeted offer, its just membership required (which has been stated in the Deal's title)

Usually deals are tagged as targeted offer if only certainly groups of people can access the deal (randomly selected or people has no way to manually access it)

This deal is available to anyone that has the membership and anyone can access the deal by joining as member (similar to most eBay plus and Amazon Prime deals)

  • +1

Bought one recently from the Apple store on George street Sydney and was surprised to find out Apple will also price match.

    • +1

      They price match Costco?

  • Do your homework in advance. Go to JB HiFi ask any associate what's there best price. They usually would offer you something interesting.

    • they usually would and most definitely would do their best to offer some discount off rrp for expensive items. They have targets to meet, sometimes as high as 10k per shift and 1 sale of the iPhone is nearly 20% of that target

  • I know this is the best phone in the market but hate that it will be outdated when they release next one later this year. $1800 is a bit too much considering that.

    • +1

Bro in law just got this iPhone. Already complained about battery life

      • Compared to what though? Not other iPhones, except maybe the 11 Pro Max.

      • Battery life is really good for me. Just make sure not to use 5G.

  • I get a new Iphone every second model previous model to this I believe the 12 is just an 11S and this year’s will be a major upgrade.
That’s been the pattern to me.
    Please correct me from wrong

  • +1

Flagship phones in general are becoming ridiculously expensive in the last few years and superseded within a year.

    • Can't see how mobile tech has plateaued, yet prices keep going up? is the consumer just fueling this by buying anyways?

  • yikes.

  • +1

who pays nearly 2K for the phone?? R U OK?

    • I’m not one of them, but obviously plenty of people buy these flagship phones at flagship prices.

  • can OW pricematch costco?

    • +2

Yes and Apple also, as mentioned by other users.

    • Office Works will not match or beat Costco (reason they state is because you pay membership)
Tried a 3 times calling them and got the same response all 3 times.

      • Having membership is not part of the PBG exclusion.
Can OW refuse on price match even if it is covered under its stated PBG on their website.

"What items does the 5% reduction apply to?
Our guarantee applies to all identical products and services that are:

        Stocked at Officeworks
In stock at our competitor; and
Not excluded from the PBG (see below)."

  • Is the warranty for a year or two?

    • 1 year from Apple and extra year from ACL. So 2 years in total from Apple.
