Looking for Recommendations on a Free Podcast App for iOS/Windows

Finally jumping on the podcast boat.

There're so many podcast apps out there, how do I choose which one to use - besides being free of course!

Any recommendations?

    Apple podcasts comes on iphones

    • Thanks. Just what I wanted. Free and no strings attached.

      • Do you want recommendations for podcasts too?

        I personally love

        • The Signal (Australian, daily discussion of a news topic, goes for about 15 minutes no ads, comes out very early in the morning so nearly always listen on my way to work)
        • Darknet Diaries (in depth coverage of a hacking story, done super engagingly and well, my favourite podcast. Fortnightly, half an hour to an hour, ads are pretty minimal)
        • Reply All (internet related stories. Some episodes are amazingly good and others not so much. Earlier episodes are better than the more recent ones in my opinion. Lots of ads. Half an hour to an hour, supposedly fortnightly but they often just repeat old episodes)
        • Download This Show (coverage of current culture technology topics, Australian and has mostly Australian guests. Can be funny. 15-30 minutes no ads, weekly on a Thursday)
        • Smashing Security (coverage of internet security topics, comedy and light hearted but usually don't go into any depth. You can see the difference in quality of reporting if you compare their episode about the Hacker Giraffe to Darknet Diaries' episode (DD's was actually well researched). 30 minutes some ads, weekly on a Thursday)
        • Hackable? (Talking about internet security for laypeople, it was super enjoyable and genuinely funny but has sadly finished. Well worth going back and listening to all the episodes though. About 30 minutes no ads)

    Overcast on iOS is excellent.

    • It says it's supported by ads. No thanks.

I really like overcast. I hate ads as much as anyone, but they are unobtrusive and don't have any affect on usability or listening.

    Pocketcasts

    • It's a freemium. Looking for a purely free app.

      • Fair enough. I don't use the web version.

The android up does come with the ability to add your own audiobooks if that's something you're interested in.

  • Use Airr
It allows you to save segments that you like or find meaninful (called "AirrQuotes") so you can reference later

  • I use Pocket Casts. It was recommended to me, is consistently rated as one of the top apps (podcast production software), and has everything I need. Even works with Google Home devices.
