The whole series was great start to finish!

    • season 5 was a snooze fest. stopped halfway. heard 6 was good though

      • +2

Felt like s5 was the setup for s6 though

    Kerri Russell. Smoking hot!

  • Is it very violent/gory?

Available on Binge if you have a subscription

    • It can be a bit violent.
Just finished season 4 on Binge.

    • Thanks for the heads up, time my GF starts a Binge trial :-)

This show is brilliant, it’s criminal that it hasn’t been watched by as many as breaking bad or the sopranos.

    • Really? Breaking Bad is my all time favourite, tried this show a go a few months ago and didn’t think much of it. Watched 2 episodes - found all characters rather uninteresting and flat. Maybe I should give it another go then?

      • +2

        Definitely!

One of the best shows I've ever seen :)

        • +1

Agree! and quite possibly best finale episode ever.

  • +3

Excellent show that deserves better than SD. iTunes has it in HD (albeit, only 720p).

Very good show, my only criticism was that it meandered a little bit during the middle seasons.

I loved the old-school espionage techniques, and the music from that era complemented the program wonderfully.

Fans of this show might like "The Bureau", a French spy drama. Not strictly comparable, but the quality is just as good, if not better. Available on SBS On Demand last time I checked.

Fans of this show might like "The Bureau"

I'll give it a go, thanks!

    • +1

      Yep the Bureau is great.

    • The BUREAU is awesome. Just finished watching season 1 and despite the subtitles, it's riveting.

Fans of the Bureau might like "Tehran" an Israeli spy drama. This had me hooked at episode 1.

      • +1

        Season 2 is even better!

I've watched Tehran, it was okay but didn't captivate me. Fauda was far superior in that geopolitical space.

        • Awesome! Really looking forward to season 2 now.

I've only seen 3 episodes of Tehran and I like it because of the femme fatale character and the Iranian counterintelligence guys is the guy who was also in Homeland, but also it's set in Iran and you don't often get to see what life is like.

Thanks for recommending Fauda, I will definitely check it out. Im getting to like Israeli shows; False Flag was great and Mossad 101 also good.

          Any other shows you recommend?

          • +1

@2048addict: In that type of genre, there is a Spanish-language show now available on SBS on Demand called La Unidad - "based on the real experiences of counterterrorism professionals, Commissioner Carla Torres (Nathalie Poza) leads the Spanish unit in an international anti-jihadist strike" - although I am yet to watch it.

But, really, Fauda should be a priority along with The Bureau. 4 seasons of each. That should keep you going for a while.

  • Was looking forward to season 7 and never happened. Guess we will never know :)

    • +1

I'd love to see a film follow-up (ala Breaking Bad) but it is very unlikely.

  • +5

One of the best shows out there. Be prepared to be hooked.

    • +1

Agreed super underrated, not many people I know have even heard of this show. Utopia 2013 is my number one for most grossly under watched show of all time considering its easily a top 5 of all time for me.

  • Great show, watching on binge with airplay to TV. Picture quality not the best, but show good ao doesn't matter, starting Season 4 now.

    • +1

I didn't find season 5 amazing so if you get stuck there then push through to watch some of season 6. It gets good again.

      • Agreed. The only season I felt the urge to skip forward every now and then. Brilliant show overall.

  • +2

I just can't get into this one. Maybe it's time for another try.

  • For those that liked the double life aspect of this I would recommend Counterpart. I didn't think it was as good as The Americans but it was still enjoyable. It did take a few episodes to really start. It was really spooky watching Counterpart right at the start of COVID. Also, just like The Americans I would have liked at least one more season of Counterpart.
Maybe there is something to the fairly rapid ending of The Americans? After all that they did, it had to end, and life just went on.

  • DVD?
    Any deal on Blurays?

    • I don't think there are any blu ray releases except for season 1.

    • The Americans never has a Blu-ray release, except for Season 1, as pointed out by aguitarfreak.
Many other shows by Fox got the same treatment.
This happened after its acquisition by Disney.
Another example is Fargo, Season 3.

some good recommendation in comments. Thanks everyone. :)

Holy cow! A post on Ozbargain, and The Americans got catapulted to No.1 Best Seller on Amazon, whereas it was ranked like 5,000 previously.
Btw, this price has been available since Christmas.
The lowest ever was $31+ back in June 2020.
I nabbed one at this price back on Boxing Day.

Such is the synergy of a good deal and a good show!
