Based on past info about this game the AI team mates are useless on the higher difficulties but I guess if you play on the lower settings it would be okay.
There's still a large online community thanks to crossplay. It's actually quite a good game for what it is.
What Agret said. Seems the devs deliberately nerfed the AI teammates so that people are incentivised to play online with others instead.

The game is still playable on your own, but harder than it was before.
