  • where were all these deals last year :(

who the heck is Keanu and why does Dell love him so much 🤔

    • +5

      Keanu Reeves. He's a cyberpunk

    • +17

Some in Dell marketing has fiancé named Keanu. Next year it’ll be “HATEKEANU”.

      • Its one of those Love/Hate Relationships

  • I got one of these before Christmas on the above Keanu deal, using it here at work, fantastic unit for the price, might consider buying another!

  • +6

This should be the official ozbargain monitor

I've got one from the previous deal

    • +3

me too. I like that it's IPS- good viewing angles. 2k @ 75hz makes it a good upgrade on my 1080p 60hz for gaming, and text is less pixelated at 2k so it's good for writing and reading too. Other good things are the speakers are not bad and reasonably loud, and also any keypress on the monitor buttons immediately brings up a visual guide for what the they do so you don't have to guess which one is up, down, confirm etc. I really like that feature. Finally I will add it's 100% compatible with the popular north bayou monitor stand- using it right now.

The only thing is once the stand that comes with the monitor is in, it's extremely tight and secure. It's almost impossible to take out- the way it works is there's a pinhole button which when you press it is meant to allow you pull the stand off. It took me 20 mins of pushing as hard as I could with a thin phillips screwdriver- then I finally got it off by pushing and hammering at the stand. I was not the only one as my web search revealed lots of other people struggling to remove their stands. So consider that if you really want to mount it on an arm- maybe do not attach the included stand at all.

      • +2

It's really only an issue if you don't have the VESA mounting arm ready before the monitor arrives. Otherwise, you would use the VESA mount right away and skip the included stand.

All the S2721 series monitors, when discounted, are all quite attractive. S2721D/DS's 2K resolution is probably the one that suits most people (for 27 inch).

        • Is the 4K (S2721Q) not advisable for a 27" size?

          • @mifflindunder: No its too small for 4K. Even with my 20/10 vision its too much strain without fiddling with scaling.

          • +3

@mifflindunder: Most people use 27 inch 4K with display scaling. In terms of display scaling, Macs generally have less issues (I haven't encountered one, but then again, I have use way more PC apps, including some older apps).

When you use S2721Q on a Mac, by default, it will choose a display scaling mode that's roughly 2K like. There are multiple scaling mode, including the one with most space (1:1). It's unlikely you will use 1:1 4K on a 27 inch for a long period of time.

      • Which North Bayou you are using for this?

        • This guy here: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B071HWSGPN/ref=ppx_yo_d…

It is indeed very good. The construction looks like it could take double the listed tolerance, and all the degrees of motion are smooth and frictionless. You can install it via the included clamp, which is what i'm using, or the supplied bolt which can be drilled through your surface.

Monitor is gonna pay for itself in like a week! ;) Then sit back, relax and enjoy as it adds to your retirement fund… Lol

  • I've got the DS variant (which I think adds speakers). Great monitor for work purposes. Haven't tested it for gaming or video though to judge colour.

    • No, D model has built in speakers. DS, the S is basically a height adjustable stand for the VESA mount on the monitor (a better stand - but you do need to pay extra for it).

    • I have this monitor and it has speakers also.
The only difference is the DS has an adjustable stand.

  • I have a 16" Macbook Pro and I can't connect to my existing Dell monitor (U2518D) without it flickering. Apparently this is a pretty common problem with Dell and Apple due to compatibility.
The monitor works fine for my home PC and work laptop.

Just wondering if anyone using a MBP has connected to this monitor successfully?

    • I haven't found issue with Mac using this monitor. Which "dongle" did you use? Also, did you use the included HDMI cable?

      • What Mac are you using out of curiosity?

And I'm using a USB-C -> Displayport cable; I tested the cable and it works fine for all other devices except my MBP.
I didn't get an included HDMI cable with my MBP.

        • +1

          MPB 2018 13 inch, old MPB 2015 15 inch.

I thought you use a USB-C to HDMI dongle and used the HDMI cable provided by Dell.

That USB-C to DisplayPort cable, which one is it? I thought Apple doesn't sell such cable.

          • @netsurfer: I'm not using an official Apple cable. They also don't sell an official one, only this one:
            https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HLR62ZM/A/moshi-usb-c-to-…

For your MBP 2018, how do you connect it to your display, since it's also using USB-C?
Are you using the USB-C to HDMI dongle you were talking about?
If so, I might give that a shot!

            • @hardoncollider: Hm… I haven't tried DisplayPort with MPBs. Not sure whether I have a cable or dongle to try.

It is certainly possible that there is a compatibility issue with that monitor and Mac (I don't have U2518 and as mentioned before, I haven't tried DisplayPort with Macs). With DisplayPort, there are basically two ways to send data, compressed and uncompressed. A 5K VESA certified cable should have sufficient bandwidth to handle either form.

            • +1

@hardoncollider: I tried my only USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter. It's an old one I bought a while back. I tried it on S2721QS (I am using S2721DS right now so I won't be able to test it until after 5PM). QS is 4K/60 and I am not seeing the flickering issue. Could you please describe the flickering issue in more detail? Is it constantly flickering or need to wait quite some time for that to happen?

              • @netsurfer: Just sent you a PM about the S2721 + MBP combo, would greatly appreciate your help.

            • +1

@hardoncollider: hey just putting my 2c in here. I had a similar issue with my 2019 13" MBP while using Displayport on my Dell and AOC monitors. it wasn't too bad, but every now and then i'd notice the slight flickering and sound controls via SoundFlower Bed was a mess. I haven't had any visible issues on both fronts since i swapped to USB-C to HDMI cable

              • @ExtraSalt: Thanks for the advice mate. I'll try a USB-C to HDMI and see how I go.
and @netsurfer thanks for testing, really appreciate it! I'm interested to understand why your MBP works; perhaps it's to do with the 2018 range vs 2019? Regardless, right now I'm focused on just getting it working for uni and work as a priority.

Just for context in case anyone else reads this or is curious:

                Laptop: 2019 i9 16" MBP
                Monitor 1: LG 27GL850
                Monitor 2: Dell U2518D
                Cable: USB-C to DisplayPort

Flickering on both, Dell is noticeably worse though. The flickering is quite bad for me; horizontal glitched streaks, blackouts and just not working sometimes. It desn't matter if I have 1 monitor plugged in or both at the same time.
I also noticed if I plug the monitor on the right side closest to you it flickers a tiny bit less but still unusable.

On the phone to Apple, I'll see what they say.

            • +1

@hardoncollider: Okay, I quickly tested MPB 13 inch with S2721DS (same as this monitor except it has a height adjustable stand) with a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter + DisplayPort cable. I am pretty happy with it. The laptop detects the monitor and actually offers both 60Hz and 75Hz options (default to 60Hz (technically 59.99)). I tried 75Hz and it is fine. Also, because it is not a 4K monitor, I am not using my best DisplayPort cable, just a pretty standard (cheapish one).

Let me know more about the flickering issue. If the issue is intermittent, it obviously needs more testing.

    • +1

Try a different cable. Some cables only handle certain refresh rates/bandwidths.

Be aware also different versions of HDMI e.g.

Yes, I understand this isn't flickering, but it's worth a shot.

  • I bought s2721qs few weeks back and it doesn't support DP1.2/Daisy chain and now I had to buy a dock to enable the daisy chain :-(

    • The monitor doesnt support the daisy chain? Or your pc/laptop doesnt support it? I went through this problem last year and it was ultimately my video card which didnt support it plus the combination of USB-c using displayport but I had to use the displayport cable and connectors. I bought this about a weeks ago when it was $20 dearer (with the LOVEKEANU code). Any way to get the price adjusted you think?

    • Dell has a 30 day price guarantee. You can give it a try

  • any recon on the similar spec but height adjustable?

  • +5

Should I buy one to pair with s2721dgf which I'll never get?

  • +2

I bought this version and the DS during the last sale - very happy with them - the DS version is a bit sexier with the height adjustment.

I did find while playing DBD that the screen would blank out for a few seconds during gameplay - found discussions on reddit + whirlpool where if you have gsync turned on, and are using a gtx1060, if the frame rate drops below ~40FPS it blanks out. The nvidia driver does say its not certified so just letting people know if you plan on getting two, are using a gtx 1060 and end up turning on Gsync on these babies you may run into the glitch if you're planning on using gsync.. People suggested its more likely to happen with dual screen setups.

    • yep, got two from the last sale myself, was delivered in 3 business days !!!

  • With my one, the power cable port is extremely sensitive…one wrong move and it turns off and I have to spend 5 minutes moving the cable around until I find the sweet spot.

  • Can anyone who owns this monitor confirm whether the VESA mount has the option to use screws?

  • Be warned it only has an HDMI cable included, and many (older?) PCs will not work well with QHD over HDMI.

If your PC has DisplayPort, best to order a DP-DP cable also. (And an adjustable VESA stand or arm.)
I got one at $220, love it. Compared to the "Ultrasharp" it looked rather green, until I adjusted the colour.

    • Many older Intel based PCs with embedded graphics will not work well with QHD over HDMI. One way to solve it is to get a discrete graphics card. Otherwise, it will depend on which gen of Intel CPU you have. DisplayPort is better for Intel embedded graphics because intel has known to be lagging behind on the HDMI side.

Even for 7th gen, 8th gen Intel CPUs, the way HDMI 2.0/4K/60Hz works is wire the DisplayPort via an LSConn chip to make it HDMI 2.0. It's a hack and if you have a dodgy version of the LSConn chip firmware, you could run into some weird issues. Furthermore, because this is not very well known and 4K wasn't that popular at the time, most PC makers don't put that chip in (because most people don't know this and won't pay extras 4 years ago for HDMI 2.0).

I bought the height adjustable version of this one in the sales before Christmas. Super happy with it. I'm using as my work monitor on a Mac Pro. The text looks super crisp and 2k resolution seems like an ideal complement to the Macs retina displays too. Highly recommented.

  • Now have both a Q and QS, absolutely great monitors

  • Just ordered one! Thanks heaps.

    • When did they say it would be delivered?

  • +1

I bought 2 of each of these (S2721D/DS) before Xmas. I was surprised to see they are diff panels. I assumed only the stands were different. The model numbers are different in the menu system but more importantly the colour temps dont match which is a bit annoying.

    • That’s interesting. Is the only difference the colour temp? Any difference in image quality or anything?

      • Cant see any other differences.

  • Does anyone know if the Alienware 17 R5 can support 3 of these bad boys?

  • +1

I bought 2xS2721DS during Christmas, absolutely love them. Upgraded over my dual 24x1080p, image and text are really crisp, good for gaming as well.

  • Bought 2, thanks OP!

  • thanks.. 1 ordered

    • +1

Received - and very happy with it. Amazingly crisp and clear.

  • +1

Got one of these last time round - very happy with it. You could do a lot worse at this price point.

  • +3

Funny… Using "AUAFFILIATES15%OFF" coupon code adds 15% instead of removing it…. Maybe post that code on ozripoff?

    • +2

That would take it back to RRP then try to take 15% off of it.

  • Is this monitor good for PS4 Pro (and PS5 in a few months)?

  • Was the S2721DS on sale as well with the code or only the S2721D?

    • Only the D version was, now the DS is on sale through the website.

  • Missed this deal, again….

  • Purchased one of these on the last day of the Deal (S2721D). I suspected that the DS might come on Sale after this one was over…and it did.

However, I recently purchased a Brateck Monitor Stand from Office Works ($59) for my Benq Monitor and more than happy with it. So I figured if I wasn't happy with the basic Dell stand, I'd get another Brateck one. Seems solid and performs all the Tilt / Rotation / Swing movements.
