    what a great price… I don't need this!~!!

      "think un-Sony thoughts, think un-Sony thoughts, think un-Sony thoughts…"

      • -2

Get a R5 and you won't even think about Sony at all :D

  • +2

Good price. Overkill for my need. My A7iii will still be good for weddings for the next 2-3 years

  • +2

I have not used my A7 III since COVID hit goddamn.

    • I used mine as webcam. 😂

  • Hot damn what a price. I'm still getting plenty of mileage out of my A7 but this is mega tempting.

  • +2

Prepare to buy a shit ton of storage as well

  • +1

price match with sony, can get 6% cashback, final price is $3985.65*0.94-$600=$3146.5

    I paid around $3900 in Oct 2020.. f

    • +11

      I paid $5500 in May 2020 :(

      • +1

        Jesus

      • Wow! On the other hand you would either have made lots of money or precious memories.

    • $3985.65 * (10/11 * 0.94 + 1/11)-$600=$3168.25

      That's how the calcs work.

Except on eBay as they report to cashrewards in USD so you never know what you're going to get.

      • last time when I used the same way to buy lens on Sony website.

Cashrewards gave me the amount i paid (inc gst) * rate. And approved after around 30 days

    • Did the same during the last Sony cashback. Even without 6%, you can always avoid backorder waiting or refund chaos.

    • Wait why -$600 ?

    • Umm, may I ask where to get 6% cashback? thanks

  • +2

Can this take a good photo on Auto?

  • will get 1

  • +2

Wow, things have done along way since the DSLRs of 2006…

But then again, my iPhone 11 Pro does such a good job, and it’s always with me…

    • +2

That's true. My wife whips out the iPhone and snaps about 4 pics before I can even get the camera out of my overpriced bumbag, the peak design sling.

    • -3

iPhone processing makes some of the photos better in some situation than my A7.

      • Really? Mine always downloads the images from my a7iii and my pixel phone.

  • +1

I did it in the morning , estimated delivery time is mid feb….

  • Price match at a Sony Kiosk. The cashback is instant so no need to fill boring forms.

    • is it possible? Can I just go to any Sony Kiosk? Do they give you the cashback on the spot, straight to the purchase price?

    • No cashback via Cashrewards though.

  • Sony website has some good cashback offers on lots of cameras

  • Requested price match on Sony's website, no reply :(

    • I got reply in the morning within 3 minutes

    • i'm guessing no one will reply till the morning. Its prob just regular office staff.

  • +1

Cheaper at CameraPro after applying the discount code.

ALERT !! ALERT !! Donot buy ANYTHING from SONY CASH back !! AS they can choose not to provide cashback to the buyer and say invalid : i bought directly from sony online on AUGUST cash back worth 800$ , , and some of my friends did same . Sony didnot provide any info nor msg , so pls beware ! its just a scam. i lost the cash back . I might inform the consumer rights and so on , but its a lot of headache to go through . Only selected may get giftcard others dont . so , pls consider spending your hard money . Learnt my way , now , NEver ever buying anything on SONY which got cash BACK ON it . SOny cameras are great but the other departments dont provide services as we deserve . thanks , tc

I've had no dramas with Sony cashback in the past.

I finally made an account just to call out the OP for his bullshit, because I'm sick of seeing this guy around.

Ankit KC is a scalper, I've seen him try to sell scalped A7iii's on fb marketplace and gumtree for the past several months.

        Either:
        a) He's being genuine right now and Sony denied his cashbacks (likely because they realised somebody who buys 6 new A7iii's at an all time low price is nothing but a scalper)

        or

        b) He' trying to dissuade people from buying this so he can sweep them all up and sell them himself at a marked up price.

Either way, don't waste any time listening to unethical (profanity) like him.

        • -1

I presume you mean the commenter, not the OP? The OP (Original Poster) is MisterTee, not Ankit KC

Welcome to OzB registration BTW…, er, interesting username, kind of stands out like Dog's…..
          Ears!
          :)

    • i bought 2x a7m3 in last cash back promotion. Receive 800 Visa card very fast.

    • +1

Bought a 6400 in August, got my cashback without any issue. I assume if you buy from a reputable retailer in Australia and it's not a grey import you shouldn't have a problem.

      • -3

bought directly from SONy ONLINE … as i said some gets easily :: i got my cashback on 2018 and 2019 , last 2 yrs with lots of phone calls and was very hard . but this time they said invalid and there is no way to contact anyone . . Lots of my friends had same problem .SO just to keep in mind
        ! thanks

    • +1

Bought my A7III direct from Sony last Aug, took a while for the $400 gift card to come through, but it came through eventually. Didn't even have to chase them up or anything.

    • I second this, I have probably bought dozens of Sony products with cashback in the past, and had no issues. However I bought two cameras back in July and got the gift card for one but not for the second one. I'm still chasing Sony but there has been no progress on it so far.
Not sure who to complain to, accc?

      Sony is certainly hopeless.

      • That promotion may be a tricky one:
Customers can only claim rewards up to two kinds of each eligible product. For example, you can only claim up to two (2) Sony Handycam products and two (2) Sony Action Camera products.

  • +1

I call BS. Got the gift card from past promotions. Once with the A6000 from bought from JB Hifi 3 years ago, once from Sony Online with the A7m3 last July. Both times contacted within two weeks. Sony online giftcard came back much quicker as they could verify straightaway.

  • -2

    Thanks ordered 5

    • +1

Never know when you need to capture a moment, order 5 and scatter them around the house!

  • +1

I have both this and the A7S, I usually ended up carrying the A7S instead of the A7R. The better low-light sensitivity of the A7S' 12.1MP has been much more useful and practical than the 61MP in the A7R.

    • +3

Apples and oranges. The A7S is designed for video whilst the A7RIV is designed for high resolution photography.

Whilst the 12mp on the A7S is plenty for 4k video, you won't find too many professional photographers using 12mp these days as it doesn't give you much scope to crop or to make large prints. Also, once you downsample a photo from 61mp to 12mp, the differences in visible noise also decreases.

      • in fact any comparison (dpreview etc) which shows images from a modern 24/48/60 megapixel camera downsampled to 12mpix next to a camera of that original resolution, will show about the same amount of noise, but with more fine detail and most importantly, finer grain. The only gain from a lower res sensor is smaller file sizes.

The only time I hate being poor is when i see camera deals.
I can live frugally for everything else in life.

  • +2

CameraPro is $4199 with an instant $250 discount (3949) less $600 from the Sony cashback offer, AND another $59 off if you use cashrewards (1.5%), for a final nett price of $3290!

    • Wonder if sony could price match with the $250 discount. Still though price match with Sony with this deal is better as you could use cashrewards (6%).

    • Thanks, yes seems to be the best deal around.. Unless someone can tell me how to get 6% cash rewards?

  • please can you find us a good deal on A7S3

  • +1

Hm.. just realised how crazy this deal is. I am going to buy one tomorrow… tho My a7r3 sits here for months since covid.

  • Hi fellows,
It is not related to this post. Actually I am looking for a compact camera canon powershot G7x Markii which is relatively cheaper with digidirect compare to jb hifi or harveynorman. Just wondering if anyone has price matched digidirect price at any of the stores?

    • I’ve priced match Digidirect at Jbhifi countless times.

    • Harvey Norman: never, they always tell me below cost or the price is significantly different etc

JB HiFi: My local one, no. But the one in the city, no worries they often beat it by a few cents for giggles so they can say they gave me a better deal.

      EDIT:
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Canon-Powershot-G7XII-Australian-w…

Apparently it's free delivery even without prime?

      • G7x Mark II is 696 with digidirect. Only thing that worries me that I have never bought anything from digidirect. Just thinking to buy it online or otherwise I'll price match it with Jb hifi

      • I'll try JB if they can price match it, that would be great. Thanks for your suggestion

    • Why the mark 2 and not mark 3?

      • I am buying it for someone else and budget is $700

  • I've had this camera from the launch, it is absolutely insane.

Though you guys should realise that the raw files are 61MB.
You will 100% need to upgrade your rigs to be able to keep up with the files.

  • damn if i didnt have the rIII i would be on this thats a great price

    • +1

Same boat as you, and I pulled the trigger! The upgrade is worth it more for the AF system (excellent object tracking as well as the face/eye detect, and it switches seamlessly beetween the two, so great for tracking fast moving kids/pets running around in circles).

  • +2

Cash reward was 6% last night, and today only showing 2%??? I am standing at the sony store right now ToT

  • +2

As far as I've tried, Digidirect, Sony and Camerahouse are currently all OOS and on backorder. They will still fill the orders but don't expect it to arrive in the mail any time soon.

    • +2

Probably why they've set the end date for claims on the cashback promo to 15 March lol. (must be purchased by 28 Feb). in the T&C it even says if you haven't received your item by early March, to contact Sony to start the claims process. So y'all just be careful the cashback doesn't lapse and you miss out! I reckon they bank on 5-10% of people forgetting to even submit their claims. A lot of businesses wouldn't remember, or bother, if they are buying for a big department.

      • That's a good point.
I was thinking I'm not in a hurry to receive the item but if I don't get it soon to get the serial no. It's 600 down the drain!

        • +1

You’ll be right, just set a reminder for end of feb to let sony know if you still don’t have the cam by then. They will sort it out if its a supply shortage of course. They are obliged to.

  • +2

Just purchased from Sony Kiosk. They price matched digi no problems. None in stock, but they are shipping one from another kiosk. Fingers crossed I'll have it next week. They estimated I'll have the cashback in a few weeks.

Now to sell my a7iii. Might be hard with 61MP photos of it in the listing, with every scratch in glorious detail :P

    • Why not instant cashback? No more eftpos cards?

      • Apparently it needs to be processed by the promotions team.

        • Ah ok they used to give it to you on the spot at purchase

  • Received Invoice and delivery Order number, wish to receive next Monday.

  • What are the best lenses for this 61MP beast?

    • Best for what use case? There are many excellent lenses for many different scenarios. But if you're keen on extracting every last bit of detail from a 61MP sensor you are going to have to use a prime lens.

      • Best portrait, zoom and wide? Might add another $10k easy

        • All the primes are good. So for portraits the 85mm 1.8 is good, the 85mm 1.4 is slightly better but also like 3x the price.

          Wide, everyone likes the 24mm 1.4. I have the 20mm 1.8 and it's excellent.

Best zooms are the GM zooms, so the 16-35 2.8 and 24-70 2.8. But They are big and expensive. I have the 24-105 4 and am very happy with it. The 16-35 f/4 is fine, but not nearly as good as the 2.8.

    received my A7r4 today.

    • How is it? i'm so tempted but can really afford it.
