The wine details:
Story: They say that a parent doesn’t have a favourite child, but Cabernet Sauvignon has always secretly been one of ours!

Vintage: The 2019 growing season started with mild weather and below average rainfall. Some late spring rain provided a bit of relief from the dry conditions. A heatwave in January was luckily too early in the ripening cycle to cause any damage to the fruit. This was followed by a very mild and dry finish to the vintage, allowing good hang time and flavour development to the smaller than average crop.

Nose: The nose displays beautifully complex notes of plums, blackberries and a hint of cassis.

Palate: The palate is smooth and well-rounded with plenty of blackberries and plums, complemented by well-integrated tannins.

Food Pairings: This is the perfect wine for a lamb on the spit or any other meaty main course!

Alc: 13.5%

Cellaring: Drink now to 2027

you can cellar for up to 7 years

I've never had a cellar so this caught my eye. I always assumed the longer in the cellar the better, full stop. But… this suggests there is a limit. What happens after 7 years?

    • +2

Very few wines celler for long periods of time and actually start to decline after 7-10 years. Not sure if this relates to the preservatives used in some wine, the weather during their growth or something else.

Lakeside SA Vinegar for your salad dressings…

A bit harsh JV and in fairness not the case.
After seven years as Oldmate88 suggests, the wine is in decline or outside of it's optimum drinking window and just be a tired red wine.

That's just JV's unique brand of humour - I think most ozbargainers would take it as a sign of affection that JV took the time to make a "joke" at your expense

          • @isthisreallife22: In which case, I am happy, of course, retract my comment
Thanks @kcbworth for taking the time to clarify. Much appreciated.

@kcbworth Some wine do develop secondary characteristics with age. These characteristics appeal to some and not others. There are windows in which a wine will be at a peak and after that as OldMate88 says, a wine will decline. Some whites will age and certainly some reds. A big topic - too big to do justice to here.
Interesting fact - the average cellaring time of a bottle of wine in the UK is 43 minutes :-)

      due to COVID ?

      • Pre-COVID stat.
Essentially what the research suggested is that most people make a purchase to drink immediately.

research suggested is that most people make a purchase to drink immediately.

Not necessarily, there could be a few alcoholics skewing the data…

          • @jv: I'm glad you said skewing.
That said, I haven't yet come across an undrinkable Aussie Cab sav.

  • Small quibble - I'm only being offered a 12 pack…

    • @terrys The six pack version is there. Go to www.wineshedsale.com.au use the 6 pack button to scroll down to Six Pack options.
Please let me know if you can't find it.
      Cheers!

How does your Bec Hardy and Lakeside line up against your Pertaringa lines? I assume the latter is more premium?

    • That's right. The wines with a South Australia appellation from the Pertaringa 'Lakeside' and Bec Hardy range are the more entry level style wines. Fruit forward, drink now styles. Our objective in all we do is to deliver a high price/quality ratio though
Wines in both ranges rom the McLaren Vale, Barossa or Adelaide Hills are the more premium wines.
      Hope that helps.
      Cheers! RD :-)
