If You Have a Bad Meal at a Cafe or Restaurant Would You Do a Charge Back through Your Bank/Credit Card?

Eating out is expensive and highly variable in terms of food quality, service, taste, freshness, etc. If you had a terrible meal would you consider doing a charge back through your bank/credit card as a "goods or service not as described"?

No, you would advise the restaurant staff something is wrong with your meal like a normal person. If nothing's actually wrong and you simply did not enjoy it, then why should they be penalised for a subjective matter.

That's low class if you ask for charge back.

        Correct.

The term is now indeed Ivanka, not Karen.

if you clicked into a bad post/topics can i do charge back on time wasted reading the post
i charge like consultants in 6 minute blocks

No way…depending on how bad it is - just give them another (less expensive) chance or just don't ever go back…

  • That's awful. Why would you even tell the server?

The best time to delete the post was right after posting it.

The second best time is now.

You ate the steak you pay for the steak.

If you didnt send it back, you dont get your money back

Wow, that would have to be the pinnacle of passive aggressive.

people with that mentality normally take issue with everything served to them to justify a charge back or a complaint in hope of a discount.
also id really like you to add more context to your definition of a bad meal? ordering chicken and its still raw? because you would have to be autistic to finish a meal you dont enjoy or there is major issues with, not talk to any of the staff about it, run home and charge back in the safety of your house, there will be no outrage if you say "hey man, i think this is under cooked"

I kinda picture you sitting around with your 10 kids in some 2.5 star cheap Tuesday restaurant - getting down to the dessert and you say "cmon kids, lets leave, this was terrible, the ice cream was not cold enough! not paying! NOT PAYING! I WANT A (profanity) MANAGER!"

This seems to be a cop-out of not wanting to confront or make a complaint if something is wrong. If you have an issue with the service or food, be an adult and mention it to the staff or management at the time, don't be a coward and conduct a charge-back.

Grow a pair of balls and raise it with the staff at the time, not from the relative safety of your home.

I had to scroll back up to check who the OP was.

  • Did they charge upfront? And did you eat all or most of the food.

Not unless I suffered a really bad food poisoning BECAUSE of the restaurant and it's hygiene standards. Most of the time, if you explain the food being of poor taste, the manager might comp you part of the mea. Besides staff still need to be paid and chargebacks are a lousy move seeing that the business is charged a fee for your chargeback.

one time i ordered chips and it was not edible not even my dog wanted to eat them nor did my magpies. thanks for reading my story.

  • Doubt any bank would take you seriously. I changed ISP and the old one (TPG) refused to take a cancellation during the pandemic. Commbank confirmed they had issues with them but could not get me a chargeback but instead they gave me new card. Eventually the telco ombudsman got me a refund. With restaurants choose wisely!

  • Are you for real?…

My question is if the food was so bad that you wanted a chargeback why on earth would you pay for it to begin with? Why wouldn't you just tell the staff when you realised it wasn't to your standard?

I agree with the comments above about it being a cop-out on speaking to the restaurant about it. Pretty weak imo

Suppose if you don’t like flying economy that deserves a charge back too lol

  • No.

I would speak to the manager about it and try and come to an agreement. I've never been anywhere that the whole meal was rubbish (except the Pho place in Crows Nest).

  • Did you want to bring the issue up with the store owner first. Just odd.

  • You got what you ordered, you accepted it, consumed it and paid for it… charging back would be committing a fraud. It's not like the restaurant took your money for nothing.
