Hitachi v LG 65" TV

Hi, there are two deals going at JB Hi-Fi.

Hitachi 65QLEDSM20 65" 4K Ultra HD Android QLED

LG UN7300 UHD 65" Smart 4K TV with AI ThinQ.

Kind of torn between the two which one to go for, primary use will be streaming, no sports.

  • For that money, my initial feeling without even opening the links would be to go for the LG, as Hitachi is just a licensed brand distributed by Tempo. Doesn't mean it will be bad, it's just not a 'Hitachi' of old.

    But when looking at the specs;
LG :100hz refresh rate vs 60hz on the Hitachi.
Hitachi: 3 year warranty vs LG: 1 year warranty.
Hitachi: 4 HDMI ports vs LG: 3 HDMI ports.

FWIW I've got a 'JVC' TV, another Tempo special, and have been happy enough with it.

    • Thanks, since I won't be using it for Sports so I think refresh rate won't matter much. But Hitachi is QLED whereas LG isn't, so does that make difference in making this choice?

      • +1

I haven't seen either TV in the flesh, so your best bet is to have a look at them, and see which gives the best image to you. In theory QLED will have a better image but that doesn't mean it will be superior. And have a play with the interface with each one, it might be a deciding factor.

made under licence from a company in Turkey, made with cheaper pannels (well in the past) but QLED+HDR means the pannel has to be of half decent quality and I think the 65" & 75" QLED HDR TVs are both full backlit array lighting (and not edge lit). Only missing the new nanno/micro full array local dimming of infinite zones (dont know the zones on the current ones, not mentioned anywhere I could find but it will be zoned)

Are they worth it? well where they are good (andriod over lg/samsung OS), QLED+HDR+BACKLIT over UHD and edgelit they dont have super awesome backend processing, HDMI 2.1 120/240hz pannels (they are 60hz witch is perfect for 4k HDR gaming on 2.0a/b) and NITS is probably 250-400 brightness (which is ok as 4k lets more light through than say 8k as it blocks more light, hense the need for better backlighting!)

Look if you want a new TV in 2021 (where micro/nano qled is going mainstreem now) you will get HDMI2.1a/b 120+hz refresh ext with HDR+/dolbyAtmos ect ticks with an upscaling 8k tv! TCL have 8k NOW that for <$4k (prices this year are set to drop 50% over the year and 75> is targeted as the must have high end)

If settling for less, then the HATACHI is a great bet (along with whatever ALDI sell us as they go QLED too) for <1k for 65" ~ paying more gets you tweaks on a theme accross LG, Samsung, TCL & Hisense but OEM back to basics will serve you well and the gap between that and 8K 75" like the TCL with DLED/QLED/2.1/upscaling is already a thing!

JBHIFI have the Hitachi QLED/HDR 65" for $1k and the 75" for $1500… 3 year warranty too FYI for Series X 75 inch X915 8K QLED Android TV $3750 and DROPPING

I (think) EKO 65" Frameless QLED 4K is just a rebadged job from the same company that sell under dozens of brands!

  • Hitachi is supplied by Hisense i think.

  • Hitachi don't make TVs (anymore). Its just a label slapped on. Probably same performance as any other no name QLEDs (kogan..etc)

  • I don't know much about the Hitachi, however I bought an LG 65UM7600 (the 2019 model of the UN7300, I believe) about 6 months ago and can offer the following observations:
    1. The quality of both the picture and the sound is excellent. No sound bar is needed.
    2. The smart tv user interface is outstanding and the LG magic remote is a joy to use.
    3. The quality of the LG user manual is great. So thorough and detailed. It's a mark of a company who cares about their customers.
Of course it's still early days but I have been extremely happy with my purchase.
