Xiaomi CCTV Cameras on eBay

Hi,

I am looking to get some Xiaomi cameras for my home.
Link to what I am looking at: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/203184139964

I am just wondering how do these work in Australia? Are they an issue to make them work with their app? I know some Xiaomi stuff can be an issue to work outside China…

So I thought I'd ask.

Any other concerns or better recommendations?

Thanks,

Yeah. I think you need the xiaomi app and get it to connect to either Singapore or China.

I had issues with a different model where it would take a minute for the device to appear in the device list and movement notifications were not instant.
Another issue I had was that snippets viewed remotely are limited to 10 seconds and not emailed. So you need the sd card to view but if someone breaks in they can take the whole camera and you're SoL.

I believe Reolink cameras actually email the snippets but recommend you research further or you know, make your own from chewing gum, rubber bands and paperclips.

    • +1, havent had the 10s thing yet, but its anyones guess if the software will work tomorrow

      dont bother imo.

      • Fair enough. What do you guys mostly use and what are the '10s'?

        • he says his videos when viewed online are limited to 10 seconds = 10s

I havent had that issue. Mine are in 1min chunks, and auto play

Wouldn't these likely have backdoors to China? Are you comfortable with that for home use?

    • Yup. I think i remember reading that Google banned Xiaomi as there was a 'bug' that allowed hackers to access anyones streams simply by appending the targets ID.

If China wants to see what I do in the backyard they are free to.

Either way I will run the Xiaomi app in Shelter anyway so it should be safe. I was more wondering on how well these cameras work in Australia, there are little reviews of them elsewhere. I am not looking to spend much so probably most of my options are Chinese based makers.

        Any others you recommend?

  • Last year i ordered similar Xiaomi CCTV Cameras, they arrived just fine and looked good (on the surface), but the software was BS. The provided app didnt connect with the cameras etc etc. Before you buy check the comments on ebay for your product ;) As it turned out there were tons of bad reviews/comments for the app, but i didnt notice…just bought em lol. Anyway i got em working through a tech savvy local sparky and they didnt even charge me anything

  • I got some set up now. Set up was easy enough.

I got a router that Optus provided us, it's called the Sagemcom f@st 5366 TN. Is it easy enough to plug in any USB C hard drive into this and get it to act as a NAS? I heard a lot of people having issues with this router.

Seems it is easy enough to get the cameras to download to a NAS
